When it comes to reimagining some of hip hop’s most classic tracks, there have been some hits, and some misses, but Juicy from Biggie is one that few have dared to touch.  In the video below, Evil Dee takes a deep look into what made the tracks from Biggie and MTume so iconic.  Despite their minimal sound, Mtume was one of the most colorful funk and soul groups to emerge in the early ’80s. Their classic tune “Juicy Fruit” has been sampled often over the years, most notably in Notorious BIG’s “Juicy.” In this episode, Mtume talks about the tune and then takes us to a neighborhood boxing gym for a few rounds. Later, Da Beatminerz’s Evil Dee samples “Juicy Fruit” yet again, showing off his skills on one of hip hop’s iconic machines: the SP-1200.  Check the method.
