Disney x Star Wars = Star Wars Land?

On Christmas morning, Disney shared a behind-the-scenes update on Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, the massive 14-acre new Star Wars-themed land opening in Disney’s Hollywood Studios next year. But if you were too busy to sit through the entire show for your sneak peek, Disney has now shared the video online.

The video features brief commentary from some key figures responsible for bringing Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge to life. “It will be jaw-dropping and incredibly emotional to walk into the land for the first time,” promises Carrie Beck, VP of Lucasfilm Story Group. “To actually be standing there amongst the buildings, amongst the ships, and have this feeling that it is all real. That it has been brought to life. And it is right there in front of you – it’s overwhelming.”

The behind-the-scenes video also features more details and updated footage from Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run and Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, the two attractions that will be featured in Galaxy’s Edge. While we’ve known for a while now that Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run will put guests in the cockpit of the fastest ship in the galaxy, the Rise of the Resistance ride has been a little more mysterious. The video finally sheds light on what park guests can expect from “the most epic attraction” Disney has ever built.

The Mykonos, Greece Villa.

So after a call that we here at djstormsblog.com put out to Greece, we began to get many an invitation to rent houses.  One of my personal favorites was a sea-side, villa, with pool, and turn-down service.  It was one of the most spectacular homes in Mykonos, but you can check out the full rental profile HERE.

A Church On A Rock.

There are many fantastical castles out there in the world, but hearing of a beautiful island that can only be reached at certain times is something straight out of a fantasy book.  Take a look at this incredible church, and the rock that it stands on.

The Lake Flato House.

In Texas, architecture firm Lake Flato has completed the ‘Hog Pen Creek Residence’, an expansive lakeside retreat connected by a long exterior boardwalk. Situated at the confluence of Hog Pen Creek and Lake Austin, the dwelling was envisioned by its owners as a playful property that encouraged outdoor living, and maximized the site’s tranquil views. The home’s L-shaped footprint and orientation helps negotiate heritage oak trees, a steeply sloping site, and aggressive setbacks from the water. The boardwalk connects a series of structures that step down the hillside, traversing a 75-foot lap pool, and terminating at a screened pavilion by the lake’s edge.

The main living area is a two-story volume with a lofted master bedroom and porches at both ends. This area of the home enjoys cool prevailing breezes and shade from the adjacent oak trees. The interior accommodates many operable windows that provide cross ventilation and daylight, while three pairs of oversized doors provide sweeping views of Lake Austin. Lake Flato carefully sited the project so that no existing trees had to be removed during its construction. However, one pecan tree was uprooted during a storm and was consequently incorporated into the design of tables and shelves within the home.

That Tube Life.

There are various iterations of how urban dwellers will live in times to come, and of course, this is edged on by sci-fi films and various other architectural cityscape concepts. Above all, the vision of the future whether it be utopian or dystopian in your eyes is seemingly micro. One example of this is the OPod Tube Housing by Hong Kong studio James Law Cybertecture.

The OPod Tube Housing is low-cost, stackable micro-homes manufactured from concrete pipes. These pipes would be slotted in between building gaps rather similar to a game of Tetris. These concrete pipes are of course that of water pipes, transformed into a gorgeous 9.29 square meter home.

“OPod Tube Housing is an experimental, low-cost, micro-living housing unit to ease Hong Kong’s affordable housing problems,” James Law said, envisioning that these adorable homes be aimed at “young people who can’t afford private housing.” Albeit this ‘apartment’ is somewhat of an underground water pipe at heart, it’s hard to knock the fun-loving industrial interior. Compiling everything a young city-dweller needs, the OPod Tubes comes complete with a fold out bed, shower, toilet, fridge, microwave, cooker, microwave, and more neat add-ons.

10 Places To See Before You Die.

The Japanese Shell Villa.

Shell House Villa is located in the Karuizawa region of Kitasaku, Nagano, Japan. Designed by architecture firm ARTechnic, the concrete villa with a large oval shell shaped structure is built in the middle of the forest.  The structure appears to float above the ground like a spacecraft, with trees growing around it, harmonizing the villa into the landscape.

This 329 square meter (3,541 sq. ft.) house has a central control system that enables all mechanical and electrical equipments to be managed by three buttons. A custom made floor-heating system minimizes the use of heat energy.  Check out the blueprints up top, and more photos of this fantastical villa down below.

The Alila Villas Soori Resort.

I made the mistake of following a Bali page on my Tumblr, and have been addicted to the radiance and beauty of the island.  After stumbling across the Alila Villas resort, the team know we had to post it.  If you want to learn more about the food, the accommodations, or anything else, check out their site here, and some more photos of the property below.
