Moon Knight: Episode 1 Review.

We’ll do our best to not to spoil as much as possible in this review, but just be warned, if you want to know nothing, just watch this new epic Disney+/Marvel outing.  If you do want to know everything, just watch this new epic Disney+/Marvel outing.  So here we go… Simply put, if the Venom films would have ironed out all of the errors, and gotten everything right, you’d wind up with Moon Knight.  The show has an interesting start, and immediately leaves you intrigued, while delving into the day-to-day life of what seems to be a sad man, who talks a one-finned goldfish and lives in a Harry Potter styled London flat.  As the episode progresses, questions are raised as to mysterious sleep disorder he has, and we’re left wondering if he’s just down on his luck, or if there is something more sinister afoot.

At the same time being introduced to Ethan Hawke’s villainous David Karesh-like cult leader leaves many questions to be answered (which is a great start for the first episode of a 6 episode series).  This also seems to be a show that will benefit greatly by its one episode per week release schedule as apposed to Netflix’s “binge watching an entire show in a day” approach.  All the promotional material that has been released to the public so far is all essentially the first episode in a nutshell, and this, (along with a cliffhanger-ish ending) will have viewers coming back week to week for more.

With so many different comic book runs, and series, stories, and versions of the character and his villains, the writers have so much to pull from that will keep even the most avid fans of Moon Knight in the books wondering which stories the show will adhere to, or deviate from.  There don’t yet seem to be any ties to the larger Marvel Universe, but still posses those tiny Easter eggs that will surely come into play later in the series.  The soundtrack is also quite compelling.  Not bold enough to be distracting, but with tracks that appropriately fit the scenes.  (Even a small snippet of Big Pimpin’).  But all in all, this seems to be a great start to what appears to be one of Marvel’s best Disney+ shows to date.  If you’ve seen the first episode for yourself, check out the teaser for next week below.

T-Pain Flips The Twitch.

Everyone knows that celebrities at the end of the day, are just regular people like us. Many stars have been known to voice their love for dabbling in video games from ‘Dungeons and Dragons’ to World of Warcraft. Now we KNOW we’re late to the game here, (no pun intended) but upon first hear of rapper T-Pain joining “Twitch” the video game streaming service, where you can WATCH players play the game, along with the players themselves, we knew we had to take a look. It’s one thing to hear about your favorite rapper or singer playing your favorite video game, but to see them in FULL spectacle during their introduction must be a treat. That being said, T-Pain has to hold the title for THE MOST fantastic Twitch intro in Hip Hop history, and it true Twitch fashion, the whole world can see it. Now we know this occurred a little over a year ago when Covid lockdown was in full effect, but it’s spectacular enough to share never the less.

Katarina Janeckova. A Bodybuilder, Bears, and Beautiful Paintings.

The paintings of Slovakian artist Katarina Janeckova are soused in sex. Three lovers romp around in bed; a brunette poses for naked photos in a swimming pool; a woman spanks her partner with a hairbrush. But there is one thing lacking from her provocative tableaus—men. Instead, the women couple up with brown or black bears, rendered in woozy watercolor or acrylic brushstrokes. “For me, the bear is a perfect substitute for a man,” Janeckova explains. “I paint those bears as simple, strange dark figures, because it allows you to fantasize.” It also allows the women to become the central figures in her works, and for Janeckova to present them as strong and sexually empowered. “It’s a stereotype that pretty women are usually submissive, so I like to play around that,” Katarina says. “Sometimes it’s less visible and more in my head, sometimes it’s obvious or exaggerated.” It’s most apparent in some of her recent works, which portray the massive muscles of female bodybuilders. Katarina honors their forms by depicting them on the side of a Grecian urn, or even turning a container of Muscle Milk into a flower vase. “My ideal of female beauty changed,” Katarina discusses in the following interview, along with sex, symbols and her current exhibition, How to Make a Bear Fall in Love, which is currently on view at Studio d’Arte Raffaelli in Trento, Italy.

The Old New No Way Home?

By now, many to most of the people who see stuff here have already witnessed the awesomeness that is the first ‘Spiderman: No Way Home’ trailer. Dr. Strange makes much more than a cameo, but seems to be a full fledged protagonist although it’s a Spiderman story. Dr. Strange isn’t a stranger to (sorry, we couldn’t find a way around that one) to Peter Parker and his alter ego in the source material as we can see by a re-worked 90’s trailer. The 90’s Spiderman cartoon show is edited and married spectacularly over the audio of the first “No Way Home” trailer. They would be hard pressed to find, but if there’s anyone who hasn’t seen the original trailer, show them this one first before presenting the live action MCU version, just to see what they think. Either which way, enjoy.

Dave Chappelle is BACK. (again)… (AGAIN).

It started with “The Age Of Spin”, and has spun out of control from there with the resurgence of Dave Chappelle. He’s gone from Comedy Central show host to legend as soon as he quit the Chappelle show, and seemingly out of nowhere, his return rocked the comedy scene. The promotional ads for his newest Netflix special seem to ask the same question, how do you finish a run of HOURS of comedy that has been this prolific. Since Chappelle started his first special with Morgan Freeman narrating, comedy fans and audiences alike have been waiting for an epic conclusion while never wanting them to end at the same time. Take a look as some of the promos as you may be waiting anxiously for TOMORROW, October 5th, 2021. ‘The Closer’ can only be followed by the wait for whatever Chappelle decides to do next.

It’s A Hawkeye Holiday.

As the holiday season nears, and the Disney MCU content runs dry, many of us were reminded of a Disney + show that we never knew was in the works in the first place. Jeremy Renner returns as the title character Hawkeye in what appears to be quite an interesting, jovial sub-story that is far from the social commentary and time bending, universe ending plots of previous Marvel shows. This seems to be quite a welcome change to the Marvel trajectory, and looks quite like a small self contained story worth watching. Check out the tailer below.

Time To Enroll In Your ‘Deadly-Class’.

Deadly Class fans were treated to a hell of a surprise when the first episode of the TV adaptation went online this morning. SyFy is currently hosting the pilot for free via its YouTube channel to get viewers pumped up for the series’ actual premier on January 16th. The pilot introduces audiences to Marcus, a homeless teenager in 1980s America who gets recruited by a school for the next generation of deadly assassins. It’s a chaotic, action-packed, fever dream of a show complete with a punk rock soundtrack and aesthetics.  For those of you who would rather be surprised, do not watch the hour long video below, however, if you won’t mind the wait, then by all means, enjoy this incredible first episode to what will hopefully be an amazing first season to a great, fresh show.

Disney x Star Wars = Star Wars Land?

On Christmas morning, Disney shared a behind-the-scenes update on Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, the massive 14-acre new Star Wars-themed land opening in Disney’s Hollywood Studios next year. But if you were too busy to sit through the entire show for your sneak peek, Disney has now shared the video online.

The video features brief commentary from some key figures responsible for bringing Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge to life. “It will be jaw-dropping and incredibly emotional to walk into the land for the first time,” promises Carrie Beck, VP of Lucasfilm Story Group. “To actually be standing there amongst the buildings, amongst the ships, and have this feeling that it is all real. That it has been brought to life. And it is right there in front of you – it’s overwhelming.”

The behind-the-scenes video also features more details and updated footage from Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run and Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, the two attractions that will be featured in Galaxy’s Edge. While we’ve known for a while now that Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run will put guests in the cockpit of the fastest ship in the galaxy, the Rise of the Resistance ride has been a little more mysterious. The video finally sheds light on what park guests can expect from “the most epic attraction” Disney has ever built.

The DJ Earworm Addresses The United States Of Pop…. 2018.

For more than a decade, DJ Earworm has been blending the year’s top songs into a massive “United States of Pop” mashup at the end of each year. He began the series in 2007, kicking off with a combo of songs from Soulja Boy, Akon, Avril Lavigne, Rihanna, Fergie, and more. It’s been 11 years since that inaugural mashup, and Earworm hasn’t slowed down in the slightest.  His 2018 edition just made its YouTube debut on December 4, highlighted by tracks from Ariana Grande, Post Malone, Zedd, Childish Gambino, Marshmello, and more.

The four-minute mashup kicks off with songs from Bebe Rexha and Florida Georgia Line, and Maroon 5 and Cardi B, before cycling through Drake‘s iconic “In My Feelings,” Bruno Mars and Cardi B’s “Finesse,” Travis Scott and Drake’s “Sicko Mode,” and dozens others.  Regardless of your personal taste in music, any TRUE DJ has to admit that this is an impressive feat to accomplish.  Take a listen.

The New ‘Men In Black’ Is Here.

Sony Pictures has just dropped the first trailer for Men In Black International, and it looks like a damn good time.  The trailer gives us a much better idea of what to expect from the plot, as it’s revealed that Tessa Thompson’s character actually tracks down MIB after learning of the top-secret agency’s existence 20 years prior.  After ingratiating herself to Agent O (Emma Thompson), she’s given the moniker Agent M and partnered up with Chris Hemsworth (H), who definitely seems to be channeling The God of Thunder from Thor: Ragnarok for this role.

Reebok: Be More Human.

Reebok #BeMoreHuman—Working with Venables Bell + Partners I created a hand-drawn typeface that could be adapted by other designers to form distinctive lettering work for their new Reebok #BeMoreHuman campaign. I only created the typeface with many alternatives Venables Bell + Partners created the photography, layouts, lettering and other adaptations.  The campaign was celebrating strong women who have made positive changes to the world in unique ways. It featured stars Gal Godot, Ariana Grande, Gigi Hadid and others who encourage people to “Be the best possible version of themselves physically, mentally, and socially.”

This New Pad Might Just Be… reMarkable.

We live in a time where we are constantly bombarded with information. Distractions from social media notifications, emails, breaking news and pop up messages have become the norm. Has our love for technology made us blind? Have we lost our ability to focus on what really matters? We have to modify technology before it modifies us.  Check the short two videos below.

The Wonderfully Creative Caity Costa.

Caity Costa and yours truly… (the world famous DJ Storm) had the pleasure of working with one another the other day, and believe me when I tell you that once you that after working in music studios for over a decade, I know talent when I hear it.  Aside from being a pleasureful and peaceful woman, Caity has a deluge of music that neither myself, nor the folks at my shop looking forward to hearing, and working with her on.  Take a gander at some of her photos below, and if you’d love to hear what she has to perform, you can check out all of her work by clicking right here.

Don’t Get Stung By The ‘Bee’.

Bumblebee is a prequel story set in the ’80s, which gave Paramount and director Travis Knight the freedom to reintroduce several well-knownTransformers characters sporting classic G1 designs – something old-school fans were very happy to see.  The most recent trailer for the spin-off gave us a few teasing glimpses of Optimus Prime looking a lot more like the original interpretation of the Autobot leader than he did in Michael Bay’s movies, and now we can get a much better idea of his final design thanks to this “Generation 1” featurette and the new image featured above.  The video also includes interviews with Knight, as well as stars Hailee Steinfeld and John Cena. Check it out below and let us know if you’re looking forward to Bumblebee in the comments.

Paint Me Up Scotty.

It was not that long ago at all that we posted some amazing work from Ekaterina Belinskaya, but here some more is yet again.  Yet again this incredible photographer has caused wonder and amazement to the eye with this series of these wildly fantastical shots.  The collection is titled  “Paint Me Up”… Check the method.

A Strange Thing Is Coming Back To Netflix…

There’s only so much to take away from the titles themselves, but it certainly sounds like the Starcourt Mall will come into play as a major setting for the upcoming season. The new location was featured in the very first teaser for Stranger Things Season 3, which also featured Steve Harrington (Joe Keery) working at an ice-cream store alongside series newcomer Robin (Maya Hawke).  Unfortunately, Netflix didn’t reveal a specific premiere date, only teasing that Stranger Things will return to the streaming service in 2019.

The Avengers: Endgame Trailer Is HERE.

Finally. After endless rumours, the Avengers 4 trailer is here and, well, I guess we’d best start calling it Avengers: Endgame now.  The Russo Brothers were the first to share the teaser and they posted the following message to accompany this epic sneak peek:
“For those who have been here since the beginning.
For those who have joined along the way.
For the best fans in the Universe.
This trailer is for you…
With much love and gratitude for your patience,
The RB’s”

IllaDaProducer Explains The Origins Of The “Killshot”.

As I was buying a whole new bunch of Christmas presents for my team, I finally came to the “music gear”, and in the process of doing research, I stumbled across an extremely interesting video.  Eminem’s record-breaking diss track, “KILLSHOT,” was the final salvo in his late-summer feud with Machine Gun Kelly. The scorching song was a direct response to MGK’s own diss track, “Rap Devil,” which was in turn prompted by the shots Eminem took at the Cleveland rapper on “Not Alike.” Production on “KILLSHOT” is handled by IllaDaProducer, who also placed several tracks on Eminem’s most recent album, ‘Kamikaze.’ The Florida-based beatmaker spoke with Genius about creating the track on the latest episode of ‘Deconstructed.’  Check the method.

Dumbo… Again.

We’ve heard the news of the new live action ‘Lion King’ cast, and (some of us) have seen the new trailer for the new reimagining of Aladdin, but here was have a new look at yet another remake of an animated Disney “Classic”. The full trailer for Disney and director Tim Burton’s live-action remake of Dumbo debuted during the Country Music Association Awards tonight, and while this adaptation does appear to be taking a few liberties with the original story, it certainly seems to have captured the spirit of the beloved animated classic.  The movie follows a former circus star (Colin Farrell) who’s life is turned upside down when he returns home from the war. When he rejoins a troupe led by Max Medici (Danny DeVito), he becomes the carer of a newborn elephant who is the laughing stock of the circus because of his enormous ears.  When word gets out that Dumbo can fly, V.A. Vandevere (Michael Keaton) visits the circus, determined to exploit the little elephant’s magical ability for his own gain.  Check out the trailer below and let us know what you think in the usual place.

Aladdin? AGAIN.

I do have to say, I love this Disney film with all my heart.  I swear… #ScoutsHonor, that Aladdin is one of my all time favorite movies.  Our first look at the new recreation however, leaves me a bit confused.  I know for certain that the re-creations of the classic songs (3 can be heard in this first trailer.) are AMAZING, I’m obsessed with the re-instrumentialzation, and the way that they all blend together, and the voice of the cave is spot on… BUT what makes you need to remake such a classic film?  In younger generations, I suppose this story need to be re-told, but don’t fix what was never broken.  Tell us what you think below… And also Will Smith is playing the Genie, so this is going to be interesting.

X-Men: Dark Pheonix, The First Trailer…

“I’ve seen evil, and I’m looking at it now.”  It’s been a long time coming, but the official trailer for Dark Phoenix, the next (and potentially final chapter in Fox’s long-running X-Men saga), is finally here.  Just like his predecessor in the pre-DOFP timeline, it appears that Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) has made the same grave mistake while handling a young Jean Grey (Sophie Turner) as he seemingly opted to once again suppress her dormant Phoenix abilities instead of helping teach her how to control the über-powerful force. Also, while the trailer may be light on actual Dark Phoenix action, save for a quick shot near the end, there’s still plenty of intense footage of all of your favorite returning X-Men as they band together to face arguably their most dangerous – and most personal – threat yet.

The New ‘Creed II’ Trailer Is Here.

For those who followed the old ‘Rocky Balboa’ saga, then know he’s one of the most iconic heroes in cinema history.  The only two runner ups in that franchise were Apollo Creed, and Ivan Drago.  The world saw the son of Apollo a few years ago in ‘Creed’, but now they’re going to get a look at Drago’s kin in ‘Creed II’.  I’ve been looking forward to this match up since I heard from one of the stars about the script, and now I see that Michael B. Jordan has his work cut out for him.  Check the trailer below.

The Captain Marvel Trailer Is Here.

So its been known for some time that Carol Danvers was in line to be Marvel’s most powerful hero.  Captain Marvel (no pun intended, they literally wrote it that way) is the MCU’s newest hero to come to the screen, and her first trailer is here.  From the transition from “Her” to ‘Hero’ you know that there was time and effort put into this trailer, and hopefully the film as well.  It’s refreshing to see a heroine who (although she may get knocked down) can still get back up and do her job.  Shout out Hans for giving me the trailer early!
