Mucho Lucho. The 1800 Collection.

Featuring original artwork by a variety of both established and up-an-coming artists, each of the six bottles is a unique interpretation of the masked heroes of lucha libre, or professional Mexican wrestling.

The 1800® Essential Artists collection is an opportunity to collaborate with and showcase the talents of urban artists in a unique mix of palette and palate. Among those commissioned to design an 1800® collectible bottle are artists who’ve made marks as painters, toy designers, photographers, illustrators and animators; and each has been recognized as both influential and inventive within their genre. The Vertu Signature Dragon Cellphone.

Nokia’s luxury brand Vertu is celebrating the Chinese new year with a luxury dragon-themed mobile phone based on its Signature collection.  Each quad-band dragon phone comes in stainless steel with emeralds, black steel with Rubies, or gold with diamonds.  The handsets cost about $20,800 ; buyers get a leather case, a charging base, and one year of Vertu Concierge service free.  I just love these things.

Rick Ross ft. Drake & French Montana – Stay Scheemin (Official Video).

Although I’m not biased, and I listen to all types of music, for some odd reason, Ive been gravitating more and more towards MMG and Rick Ross.  His newest mixtape “Rich Forever” has had people talking since its release, and one of the first video’s shot was “Stay Scheemin”.  The track features Drake and French Montana, and although the song is technically Ross’s, its Drake’s words that ring the loudest.  Drizzy has had issues recently with both Ludacris, and Common, (among a few other un-need-mentionables), and this song seemed to be an avenue for him release some of his frustrations on the topic.  Check the method below.

The Field Of Light.

It seems England is brightening up this winter, last week saw the city of Durham become a festival of light for Lumiere 2011 and this weekend the Holburne Museum in Bath has welcomed Field of Light by artist Bruce Munro. The piece, which has had previous incarnations, and it has evolved with each one. The current setup is made of 5220 acrylic stems which have fiber optic cables running through with a frosted acrylic ball atop each one. The stems are illuminated by an external projector on a color wheel, with the stems themselves having no electricity in them at all.

Nike: Make It Count.

Inspirational quotes have been a more relevant topic than ever.  Anything that people can use to motivate themselves through these hard times is an attraction, and the folks over at Nike know it.  Their new #MakeItCount ad campaign showcases some of the hardest working athletes and the way they feel about their craft.  Check the method.

Under Ice Fishing.

When people hear the words ‘Ice Fishing’… some variation of the image above pops into mind.  Even though at times there may be a more glamorous side of ice fishing, it all just ends in cold, wet waiting around.  But recently I found a video that just blew my interpretation of the sport right out of the water.  Under Ice fishing is the act of diving under the ice, and using the frozen lid of the lake as a floor by turning yourself upside down.  I could try and describe it, but it’s easier if you just watch the gravity bending video below.  The video was filmed at the beautiful lake Saarijärvi in Vaala, Finland.

The Akai Renaissance MPC Is No Joke.

While the majority of technology execs are packing their cases for Vegas, for some it’s all about Anaheim. Akai is clearly ramping up its NAMM campaign, outing the latest in its legendary MPC series: the Renaissance. While the new boy is no dumb controller — it packs a full audio interface, USB hub and lots of I/O — for the first time the MPC gets dedicated external software. Sound familiar?  Well yes, it’s no doubt a direct response to the popular Maschine hardware / software combo from Native Instruments, but Akai isn’t just playing catch-up here. The new hardware includes a “vintage” mode that recreates some of that legendary MPC3000/60 crunch, and the standalone software comes with a massive sound library, instant VST mapping (so you can work with all your third-party synths) as well as the option to run in VST / AU / RTAS mode itself. If you’re worried about the possible implications of a “tethered” MPC, take a peek at the promo video over the jump, which should soon allay your fears.

Coach Unleashes The Year Of The Dragon Collection.

In celebration of the Year of the Dragon, Coach has collaborated with Chinese artist Zhang Lan to put his stamp on a collection of exclusive items.  Mr. Lan’s dragon illustration, in the traditional style of ink painting, adorns Coach’s iconic tote shape, as well as an assortment of matching small leather goods.  The gold design pops against a backdrop of the brand’s Signature pattern in mahogany.  Drawing on traditional Chinese mythology, the dragon imagery represents “Qinglong” also known as the “Azure Dragon of the East.”  As one of the four symbols of the Chinese constellations, Qinglong represents the East and the Spring season, and has been reincarnated as famous generals from Chinese legend and folklore.  Mr. Lan, a multi-disciplinary artist, is a member of the EDGE Creative Collective, and is widely recognized in China as a pioneer in tattoo and street art design.

Controlled Quantum Levitation = Real Life Video Games.

I hope almost everyone remembers the epic video game Wipe-Out.  Basically you flew around on floating ships and raced on ridiculously gravity defying track in a futuristic world that made you wonder “when will people ever be able to actually do this?”  Luckily for the kids out there that had this thought in their heads… The brilliant minds over at the Japan Institute Of Science and Technology have used Quantum Levitation to create a scale model track.  Quantum Levitation is something I’ve covered in a previous post, and its wild to see just how fast this advancement is taking strides forward.  In the nearer future, we just might see a breakthrough in transportation.   Check the method below.

Pusha T – What Dreams Are Made Of (Official Video).

Virginia native MC and G.O.O.D. music representative Pusha T, drops off some new visuals for “What Dreams Are Made Of”. Directed by Jason Goldwatch “What Dreams Are Made Of” is very cinematic, like an introduction clip to a movie about cocaine; this shit is ill. The black and white video shows Pusha’s lyrics coming to life, as they are all made out of that pure white.

The clip matches perfectly with the context and lyrics of the track, I’m gonna watch this shit a hundred times tonight. “What Dreams Are Made Of” is off of Pusha’s debut solo album Fear Of God II, which is in stores now. Check out the video after the jump and let us know what you think.

Iain MacArthur’s Artwork.

Iain MacArthur’s particular style just screams intricacy and elegance.  The art seems to take the forms of birds and butterflies that are interlaced with detailed shapes, shades, and patterns.  Check out some more work below.  (I just wonder how long each piece takes.)

Character Design vs. Package Design.

Characters have strong attraction in packaging design. Do not underestimate a cute puppy dog character on a piece of packaging because it probably does have an effective power to attract the customers. The existence of nice character design also makes packaging feel more alive and much more fun. It can also turn plain and boring packaging in to new collectible items for the customers.  Check out some interesting examples.

The IWC Top Gun Pilots Watch.

For IWC, 2012 will be all about its “Pilot’s watch” collection, following 2011 being the year of the Portofino.  Here is the new IWC Pilot’s Watch Chronograph “Top Gun Miramar” edition, one of five new Pilot’s watches we can expect to see from IWC for 2012.  The IWC Top Gun Miramar watch is a tribute to the place in California where the myth of the elite pilot (the “Top Gun”) was born.

15 Amazingly Unique Portrait Styles.

Portraits can be incredibly introspective ways to look at a person.  Most of the time the selected medium is paint, however, folks can go in some pretty unique directions to get their vision across.  Check out some unusual examples of portrait styles below.

Red Cafe – The Motto.

There have always been those certain songs in Rap that make people get up, and uncontrollably write their verses.  A Milli seemed the be the number one culprit for a few years, but now I personally believe that Drake’s “The Motto” might end up taking the crown.  Multiple associates of mine, and a multitude of artists around the world have spit over this beat.  The only one with a music video as dope as the original happens to belong to Red Cafe… Check the method.

‘Bêtes de Mode’: Fashion vs. Animals.

For this series titled “Bêtes de mode” (Fashion Animals) by HELMO, blue portraits and red animal portraits are superimposed then and displayed in the windows of the Lafayette Galleries on Hausmann Boulevard. A system of colored gels colored blue and red on the panes makes it possible to see the portrait mode sometimes, and sometimes the animal portrait. For this installation, the optical system of the gelatines of color was replaced by projection lights, – red and blue. The images are fairly large in scale (5×8 meters)… Check the method.

Cognac Glasses by Normann Copenhagen.

These unusually shaped Normann Copenhagen glasses are designed to enhance the bouquet, temperature and volume of fine Cognac.  Designed by Rikke Hagen, these 11cm diameter glasses are beautifully crafted, with an innovative design that sees the glass having no stem.  “The shape of the glass increases the intimate experience of drinking cognac by accentuating the deep color and movement of the liquid”.  The set for two can be purchased online for the cost of $61,00.

Spend A Night In A Dutch Ice Hotel.

It could be any standard hotel room in the quaint northeastern Dutch city of Zwolle, with a bed, a minibar, bathrobes and two pairs of slippers.  Except for the room temperature, which hovers just above freezing. Welcome to the first Dutch ice hotel, all the comforts at eight degrees Celsius (46 °F).  “If you take a shower before bed, make sure your hair is dry or it will freeze. Do not drink too much alcohol, or eat too heavy a meal. Make sure you change clothes before entering the room,” hotel manager Annet van Limburg told first-time visitors.

Built for an ice sculptors’ festival in Zwolle and managed by a local hotel, the structure has three rooms and stands in a refrigerated warehouse.  It is the first time in Europe that an ice hotel has opened this far south, Van Limburg said. Indeed, the idea comes from the north.  With some 47 rooms for the 2011/12 season, the largest ice hotel is at Jukkasjarvi in northern Sweden’s Lapland.  “Unlike Canada and Lapland, the hotel here is not situated in nature,” Van Limburg said pointing out: “There, the guests sleep in minus 20 degrees.”

Inside, abstract patterns carved from the ice adorn the meter-thick walls of two of the rooms. A third has a nautical theme, including a giant shell carved into its ice.  Carved from a solid ice block, like a giant ice cube, the room’s main attraction is a square bed, which lights up in pink, blue and green lights through lamps installed underneath in its ice.  It took about 10 days to build the three rooms, where guests can stay from December 3 to January 29. A night for two including breakfast will cost 199 euros ($259).

Petr Spetina’s Water Music.

Born 1973, in the Czech Republic as a farmers son, Petr found his way to glass music through accordion and piano.  He specialized on glass harp and has been brilliantly playing it for 15 years.  His multifaceted compositions, performed on his self-developed glass harp made of 33 glasses, are policed by his unique playing technique His repertoire covers everything that makes his glasses sing.  From classical to tradition music, to pop.  Numerous appearances at the events and in shows, as well as in film, television and advertising confirm the uniqueness of Petr Spatina’s performance.  Truly outstanding music that goes straight into the ear and definitely under the skin.
