The Infiniti Emerg-E Concept.

Infiniti has announced further details of a major new sports car concept set to debut at the Geneva Motor Show.  The Nissan-owned brand revealed February 3 that the model will be called ‘Emerg-E’, promising a low-emission, high-performance and high-technology car, with several firsts — and a new design direction for the brand.  The concept will use a range extender drivetrain, meaning that it will contain an electric motor and a gas-powered generator, as opposed to Nissan’s proven 100 percent battery technology used by cars such as the Leaf.

It will also have the drivetrain mounted in a mid-ship package, between the two axles, which the firm says is a first and significantly helps the weight distribution to improve handling — a concept which could be transferred to future production models, assuming it tests well.

The first partial photos of the model appear to show a low-slung form, with a two-seater cockpit and a shape which appears to have been at least partially inspired by the Infiniti Essence concept, revealed at Geneva in 2009.  The Essence was designed to celebrate Infiniti’s 20th anniversary, and while there have been no noises from Nissan on whether the Emerg-E will hit production, the trend seems to indicate that Infiniti is working towards a very specific goal.

Top 10 Sexiest Female DJ’s.

Art can be a beautiful thing, no matter what the premise.  There’s no doubt in my mind that DJ’ing is an art form, and some of the sounds that it creates are nothing short of beautiful.  Luckily for us, if the person creating that art is beautiful as well, its not a bad thing.  No one really cared what Picasso looked like, just that his work was unique.  People weren’t lining up around the corner to take a picture with Edvard Munch, we just know his famous painting “The Scream”.  And lets be honest… Frida was not the baddest b*tch on the block.  But in this day in age, male fans are blessed to have some very attractive, and very talented artists to listen to.  Below is a list of potentially the top 10 sexiest female Disk Jockeys on Earth, and before I get a flock of emails telling me that ‘such-and-such‘ does look as good as ‘whats-her-face‘ let me just remind you that as a DJ myself, talent is sexy.  So listen to some of the work before you judge the looks.

Weezy’s Million Dollar Beats.

Weezy was rocking million dollar Beats By Dre headphones that were created in collaboration with Graff Diamonds courtside at the NBA All-Star game. Add that up with his diamond grills and… I’ll let someone else do the math.

And disregarding the reports of people saying that Wayne was “high as a kite”, everyone seems to be talking about the Nicki Minaj and Lil Wayne kiss (on the lips no less) at the NBA All-Star game. Drake looks like he’s feeling anything but proud.

The Belt Driven Devon Tread Watch.

New in the Watchismo Vault collection, the $17,500 Devon Tread watches, which use a cunning system of belts and optical sensors to keep and display the time. No, I don’t have $17.5K to drop on something like this right this second, but if you asked me to imagine what a $17.5K watch should look like, it would be something much like this: “The exposed movement is a mesmerizing display of the patented interwoven system of conveyor belts. This series of belts includes critical elements that allow the optical recognition system to know every belt position at all times.”

A Somosaguas House By A-cero.

From the first moment the house clearly shows its intentions, and risky stylized forms, thanks to a subtle handling of curves that match harmoniously with their natural context without sacrificing a distinctly modern look. Horizontal lines dominate volumes, which are superimposed in layers, from a partially visible basement, forming layers that appear to emerge naturally from the ground.

The lines outside and inside of the house are trying to produce sculptural volumes, in fact A-Cero architecture is largely inspired by the great sculptures of contemporary artists like Richard Serra and David Nash and land art. Art and Architecture have gone hand in hand in this and all their projects.

On the ground floor, the main lobby is highlighted, situated beneath a curved canopy that adds a great deal of space, from where the rest of the house spreads out; the living room, dining room, master bedroom suite including a closet and bathroom, gymnasium, indoor pool, kitchen and office.

On the second floor lies a painting studio in a long and curved deck, enjoying excellent natural light and views over the surroundings. The basement floor is dedicated to leisure and health, and welcomes the following areas: Txoko, game room, locker rooms for the outdoor pool, massage room, theater, wine cellar, gym, storage area and the service and facilities for the entire dwelling.

In the treatment of the garden, A-Cero wanted to achieve a connectivity between the inside and outside of the home in spite of the slope that exists between the street access and lake. They solved the problem using descending lateral landings of slate gravel leading from the enormous terrace of teh first floor to the garden.

The ground floor or basement of the house has direct access from each room of that floor.  Both the ground floor terrace and the pool deck are of the same material as the floor inside the house, (techlam) in white, very good material for both interior and exterior use. This will ensure continuity between indoors and outdoors.

The landscaping, designed by A-Cero, is clearly Japanese-inspired, as shown by the abundance of large bonsais and different species of flowering trees and bojs.  Also, large ornamental rocks bought from Galicia were carefully placed. The large curved swimming pool (400 sq m/ 4,300 sq ft), is covered with a dark gray liner (PVC laminate slip). The pool features the “disappearing edge” and this effect achieves a continuity between the pool and lake.  In the middle of the pool is placed a sculpture of orthogonal forms that seems to float on the water’s surface. This is a sculpture by Austrian sculptor Ernesto Knorr and is made of cut steel.”

Ayaka Itos.

Graphic design is a profession that’s nothing new to me, although I’m not blessed with design skills, I’ve been around enough of them to know what good design consists of, and Ayaka Itos has it in spades.  Check out some of her work and read her bio below.  To see more from Ayaka, just click here.

I am a graphic designer / illustrator who is in love with rich colors and all things handmade. Originally born and raised in Japan, I moved to America by myself in 2005, with two suitcases and solid determination to study at the New Media Imaging & Design program (a mix of Communication Design and Interactive Design) at Rochester Institute of Technology.

After graduating in May 2009, I moved to New York City to make rich digital experiences & innovative campaigns with an amazingly talented multi-disciplinary team at Big Spaceship.

I love what I do, so I spend most of my non-working hours learning more about design and trying out new techniques on my personal projects. If I’m not doing that, then I’m usually staring at alpaca videos (because they’re too cute not to), making my own clothes, eating sweets — chocolate chip cookies are the best — or watching episodes of my favorite show ever, Adventure Time.

Busta Rhymes ft. Chris Brown, Missy Elliott & Lil Wayne – Why Stop Now (Remix)

The decision that Busta Rhymes made to sign to YMCMB might have been a bit shocking to some.  People seem to have thought it might impede his ability to make great music, or that his records may not have sold as well, or… (whatever else people were thinking.  Personally I loved the decision).  The remix of ‘Why Stop Now’ is a perfect example of Bussa Buss can do not just on YMCMB, but on any label he’ll ever be on.  Between the success of the original, and the re-introduction of Missy Elliott on the remix, this song is destined to have tons of radio play.

The Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse.

Bugatti is set to unveil the most powerful roadster of all time at the 82nd International Geneva Motor Show at the beginning of March.  With an increase in power up to 1,200 HP, the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse has entered a new dimension of open-top driving.  Optically aligned to the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport, which holds the current world speed record of 431 km/h, the Vitesse also impresses with its dynamic driving characteristics.  Bugatti’s engineers have developed the current Grand Sport, with its 1,001 HP and 1,250 Nm, into an even more powerful vehicle. The Vitesse’s maximum torque is now an impressive 1,500 Nm.  The increased power of the new roadster’s 16-cylinder engine is made possible by the four enlarged turbochargers and intercoolers. The chassis has also been modified to support the power increase.

My Sincerest Condolences To The People Of South Plainfield, NJ.

After re-cooping for a few days, I was looking for some new things to write about, and one of them came from a very real, very unfortunate source.  About 24 hours ago from the time of this post, I received word about a terrible tragedy in my home town.  In the photo below, emergency personnel work around the scene of a fatal fire in South Plainfield, N.J., Thursday, Feb. 23, 2012. A fast-burning fire destroyed half of the duplex home early Thursday, killing five members of a family and injuring four others, authorities said. Relatives and neighbors said the dead included several children.  My condolences and my heart goes out to family members of those who lost their lives in the fire.

SOUTH PLAINFIELD, N.J. (AP) — A fast-burning fire swept through half of a large duplex home early Thursday before firefighters could get inside to attempt a rescue, killing five members of a family, including four children, authorities said.  The cause of the fire was not immediately known. Officials said it was the deadliest on record for South Plainfield, about 30 miles southwest of New York City.  Relatives said the fifth victim was the children’s grandmother, though authorities said they were still working to identify the dead.

Authorities said four other family members were also injured, though only one of them remained hospitalized by midday.  Neighbor Isabel Scavino said her husband woke up about 3:15 a.m. to the sound of a screaming child. She said they heard what sounded like either gunshots or firecrackers as the fire tore through the house, a converted 19th century farmhouse.  Scavino said she saw a woman running from the home with a small child in her arms, and other children also fleeing.

“The fire just spread out, it was just crazy. It looked like it started on the first floor and then just spread up to the roof in about a minute,” she said.  The fire was largely confined to the half of the home that was destroyed.  Fire Chief Thomas Scalera said the first floor was engulfed in flames by the time firefighters arrived, making it difficult for them to quickly get access to the second story, where all the victims were found.

Ladders were quickly put up at the back and sides of the home to try to reach the top stories, but Scalera said the flames were too intense for firefighters to get inside to try to rescue anyone.  “They are very somber right now at the firehouse,” he said.  Middlesex County Prosecutor Bruce Kaplan said police and the prosecutor’s office were investigating the cause of the fire.  Two volunteer firefighters received minor injuries when they were involved in a two-vehicle crash en route to the fire, Kaplan said.

The Largest Rare Pink Diamond, Found In Australia.

Mining giant Rio Tinto has unearthed a “remarkable” 12.76 carat pink diamond in Australia, the largest of the rare and precious stones ever found in the country.  Named the Argyle Pink Jubilee, the huge rough stone was found at Rio’s pink diamond operations in the Kimberley region of Western Australia and would take 10 days to cut and polish, the miner said.  “This rare diamond is generating incredible excitement,” said Josephine Johnson from Rio’s Argyle Pink Diamonds division.  “A diamond of this caliber is unprecedented — it has taken 26 years of Argyle production to unearth this stone and we may never see one like this again.  Rio said extremely high quality pink diamonds could fetch in excess of US$1 million per carat, meaning it is likely to go for at least $10 million.  Soaring demand for the extremely rare jewel has seen pink diamond prices skyrocket in the past 20 years and they are now among “the most concentrated forms of wealth on earth and well in excess of white diamonds,” Rio said.  The miner describes it as an “elite and discrete” market with buyers including royalty, heads of state, celebrities and “other very wealthy individuals.”

Monica Bellucci For Dolce & Gabbana.

Monica Bellucci has teamed up with Dolce & Gabbana for a limited edition lipstick line designed to reflect a woman’s “state of mind”.  After the announcement of Kate Winslet’s charity makeup line for French beauty giant Lancôme last year, Italian star Bellucci is the latest actress to venture into the realm.  Called the Monica Lipstick Collection, the range will comprise six shades costing $32 each and is scheduled to hit stores May 12.  “The idea for the collection was to create different shades, different colors depending on your mood of the day, your state of mind,” the actress told WWD February 17.  “I love all shades in the collection and feel drawn to the different colors, depending on how I feel.”  The advertising campaign for the Monica Lipstick Collection was captured by photographers Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, known for their work with the likes of Louis Vuitton, Missoni and Giorgio Armani.  Evoking classic Italian cinema, it is set to run in publications across Italy, America, the UK, Russia and the Middle East this May.  Bellucci is also a new face of the Italian fashion house’s beauty collection, joining other Dolce & Gabbana Make Up actress front women Scarlett Johansson and Felicity Jones.

Scientists Create Artifical Muscles.

I’ve been a self proclaimed science nerd for years now, but when I saw this, I was kinda blown away.  By observing the inner workings of an octopus’s leg or an elephant’s trunk, scientists have created muscles from carbon nanotubes that could one day power machines.

“Nature has been developing her technologies for many hundreds of millions of years,” said Ray Baughman. “By looking at the way in which nature has solved problems like muscles, we can advance our own technologies.”  Baughman is Director of the NanoTech Institute at the University of Texas at Dallas. His lab creates very tiny artificial muscles by spinning filaments of invisibly small carbon nanotubes into an extraordinary yarn.  Pound per pound, this nano-yarn is stronger than steel, yet is so light it almost floats in air.
