When it comes to what Hollywood calls “race swapping” with well known characters, it can be generally frowned upon, however, when it comes to this collection of ‘Sailor Moon’ characters… all the work is better than any of the hate. The images are a stunning look at what the beloved characters illustrated in ‘Sailor Moon’ would look like with just a little bit more color. Check some more out below.
Fighting evil by moonlight…🌙 winning love by daylight…❤️ NEVER running from a real fight… 💪🏾
Before Toonami, before streaming, before anime was mainstream… I had a big sister.
A proud late ’80s baby, I grew up watching her fall in love with Sailor Moon. I’d peek around the corner as she watched Usagi transform, Tuxedo Mask make an entrance, and Sailor Mercury, Mars—and my personal favorite, Sailor Jupiter—light up the screen.
This was my introduction to anime. 🤩
Then came Dragon Ball. Not Z—Dragon Ball. Kid Goku. Young Bulma. Krillin. Master Roshi. King Piccolo. That’s when I knew I was hooked for life.
This post is personal.
It’s for my sister.
And for all the diehard Sailor Moon fans who made anime what it is today.
Big love to Luna and Artemis, the OGs of guidance, sass, and strategy. Without them, there is no Moon Kingdom magic. 🐈⬛
⚠️ And yes, this art was made using AI—because when used responsibly, AI is a tool that allows us to reimagine, remix, and resurrect our childhood dreams in new ways. 🤗
So here’s a tribute to the Sailor Moon fans—especially the Black girls who twirled in the mirror, memorized every lyric, and believed in magic. The ones who stayed loyal to the wand, the brooch, and the transformation sequence. This one’s for my sister—and for all the Sailor Moon diehards who never ran from a real fight. 🤜🏾
