When it comes to Hip Hop, many people get confused with only what they hear on the radio versus other what the vast range of Hip Hop artists remaining have to talk about. The PTV Math Day art exhibit/concert was a spectacular display of what Hip Hop purists would call “DOPE”. Not to draw a line between any camps, but the show really did display what Hip Hop is in its truest form. The celebration of life was tremendous, and a joy to behold.
From act one, the bar was set so high that anyone on in attendance knew they’d be in for a lyrical treat. The DJ’s kept things moving in such a fashion that half the phones were taking videos, and they other half were Shazaming what they were listening to in order to buy the songs coming through the speakers. San Francisco has been known to be eclectic, but the audience was composed of such a vast array of ages, colors, and cultures that the stage made the performances universal. It was beyond a treat to have that many well known and new coming rappers alike grace the stage.
The flyer itself (the first photo above) didn’t even encapsulate all of the people who worked so hard to put such a momentous night on the books. However, we’ll do our best to give a shout out to as many as possible. Po3 and CTZN, Del The Funky Homosapien, Pete Cosmos, Taka Tozawa, Juan Alderete, Pep Love, Copywriter, Kool Ad, and Mister Stranger (and we’re sure that there were more that graced the stage). But some of the Stark Contrast Blog were just blessed to have been able to be in attendance. Take a look at the photos from the spectacular Nick Beymer.
