Rolls Royce – Year Of The Dragon.

Rolls Royce will produce an exclusive suite of modifications in celebration of the Chinese Year of the Dragon, which begins next January.  The new Year of the Dragon Collection has been created in “preparation for this festive celebration… Inspired by the legendary creature that is revered in China.”  The collection features a set of particular details created by Rolls-Royce’s bespoke team that can be installed on its handbuilt vehicles, the popular Phantom and luxury Phantom Extended Wheelbase.  Among the addition is a handpainted dragon coachline on the side of the model and several appearances inside the car, including embroidery on the headrest and on the passenger panel, where the motif will be applied in gold.  The model will also come with exclusive illuminated treadplates on the door seals, with “Year of the Dragon 2012″ highlighted in LED lighting.  Underfoot, customers will be able to choose from a selection of modern or traditional marquetry, and relax on hand-stitched cushions included for the rear passengers.  Rolls-Royce says that its new product “captures the imagination,” but no doubt it will be hoping also to capture more customers in China, now one of the company’s most lucrative markets.  The company said last month that it had seen global sales grow by 64 percent in the first half of this year, with Asia Pacific (led by China) far outstripping the rest of the world — up by over 170 percent.

Grafh ft. Joe Buddens – It’s Just Music (Official Video).

Everybody knows rappers have beef from time to time, and sometimes there’s a happy ending, but many times there isn’t.  That being said, I’m glad that whatever it was that Grafh and Joe Buddens had disagreed on is long gone, and they can come together and make good music.  The track ‘It’s Just Music’ also featuring Shalone is exactly what I’d expect from two of people on my list of favorite musicians.

G-Unit In France.

G-Unit has been all over the world since 2004, but one of the most interesting video’s I’ve seen from them isn’t on MTV, but from their own personal stash.  A video surfaced recently about their trip to France, and their shows in Colmar and Cannes, check the method.

The Gold Bold.

The recently announced BlackBerry Bold 9900 is the latest handset to receive the golden touch from luxury brand Amosu Couture.  The handset features a 24 carat gold bezel and can be customized to include Swarovski crystals, diamonds or personalized engraving.  There is also an option to purchase a handmade leather, python or crocodile case to match the phone.  Pricing starts from £999 (€1140) and the handset is available for pre-order now.

Live The Language – France.

I’ve been to many countries around the world, both as a child with my parents, and as an adult for work, but when I recently got an offer to play a fashion show in Paris, France I wanted to do some research.  I haven’t been to Paris in over 10 years, so I wanted to get a little insight into what else I could get into besides the night life if I took the job.  One of the most interesting videos I came across was an ad for students who may be deliberating on what country to study abroad in.  Although this video hasn’t swayed me decision on weather or not to take the job, I wanted to put it up just because I thought it was stylistically awesome.  Check the method.

Are You Afraid Of The Dark?

Click here to watch the trailer.

No, this has nothing to do with the classic 1990′s TV show… This is more about Guillermo del Toro’s new horror film ‘Don’t Be Afraid Of The Dark’.  I saw the trailer and was very intrigued not just by the story, but by the creepy little details in the sneak peek.  Every little sound, whisper, creak, and groan is brought out perfectly to match the dark shadowy visuals, and even the text in the preview is eerily illuminated.  So weather you like the trailer because you love scary movies, or you admire the devil in the details, click the pic to check the method.  (The film’s synopsis is below.)

Guillermo del Toro presents DON’T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK, a horror film starring Katie Holmes, Guy Pearce and Bailee Madison, directed by Troy Nixey. Based on the 1973 telefilm that del Toro believes is the scariest TV production ever made, the story follows Sally (Madison), a young girl who moves to Rhode Island to live with her father (Pearce) and his new girlfriend (Holmes) in the 19th-century mansion they are restoring. While exploring the house, Sally starts to hear voices coming from creatures in the basement whose hidden agenda is to claim her as one of their own. Akin to del Toro’s PAN’S LABYRINTH, DON’T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK focuses on a young girl’s struggle against menacing and terrifying forces. FilmDistrict will release the film on August 26th.

Carmel Candy on ‘This Is 50′.

In the entertainment industry, the only thing better than success is seeing people around you doing big things.  From Tokyo 24, to b.FUNK, it seems everyone I talk to is making huge strides, and Carmel Candy is no different.  The UK model has been state side since June, and has been tearing up the east coast from the minute she stepped foot in the US.  Check out her interview on This Is 50 Radio, when even Fif himself pops in to say a few words.

A 2 Story Trailer Bigger Than Will Smith’s.

I remember reading a story a while back about Will Smith pissing people off with his MASSIVE trailer on the set of Men In Black 3, but Ashton Kutcher has made headlines this weekend after it was revealed that his on-set trailer costs just shy of $9000 a week to maintain.  Kutcher’s luxury trailer on the set of Two And A Half Men measures 16 metres long and weighs in at around 30 tonnes.  The luxury home features “side sections and a second floor that hydraulically emerge from the main body to offer a total floor space of 1,100 square feet.”  It also includes a whopping seven 60-inch 3D plasma screens, two bathrooms, a kitchen with granite countertops and a conference area.  The furniture is apparently designed so that it will fold or collapse to accommodate the top and side extensions.  Security cameras are mounted on the outside of the trailer giving 360-degree surveillance.  And when someone rings the doorbell, the stereo system and TV volume drops, with the image of the visitor being projects on the screens inside.

b.FUNK – Bust A Move (Live).

The recording artist known as B.C. has been pumping out musical mastery for years now.  But with the advent of the band b.FUNK, the tunes coming out of New Jersey have been much more melodic and mellifluous than they have been in years.  b.FUNK performed in Union, NJ’s Soundwaves Academy with the full band, including bongo’s and a saxophone, and tore the stage down.  Check the method below.

Nathan Spotts: Unrealistic Scenes.

Nathan Spotts is an incredible digital artist.  When I came across his collection of “Unrealistic Scenes” comprised of shots of earth, sky, and space, I was floored.  Nathan said “I’ve always been captivated by the beauty of our world, and often dream of the things that lay just beyond what we can see.  I wanted to create images of scenes that are not-quite real, but that almost could be.”  Check the method below.

DJ Storm’s Interview with Anna Novikov.

Out of all the models I’ve featured on the blog I always go through a process to get an interview. After a model’s post does really well, I’ll reach out to her and see if she’s interested in setting up a session to work on an interview. This particular beauty however, was so engaging, I figured I’d skip the preliminaries and go right to an interview. From music video production, to modeling, to promoting, to being a full fledged make up artist, miss Anna Novikov is quite the busy woman. Russian born, and Bay Area raised, I was thrilled to get a chance to pick Anna’s brain, and find out just how she feels about the modeling game, her background, and what she plans on taking over next. Check the method below.

DJ Storm: So tell everyone a little bit about your background, and what you do when your not in front of the camera.

Anna Novikov: I went to George Washington High School in San Francisco, in school I was a bit of a bad kid. I ended up graduating with my high school diploma from John Adams City College campus and I’m currently in the process of becoming a domestic violence counselor.

DJS: Growing up, was modeling one of the things you wanted to get into?

AN: When I was younger, my mother on a trip, I remember being about 3 years old, my mom took me to some modeling audition. They wanted me to walk down the runway and introduce my self. Being the stubborn little kid I was, on top of thinking that was stupid, I just did what I saw on TV. Walked down the runway, did a turn at the end and walked back. Needless to say both the instructor and my mother weren’t too pleased. That’s my first memory of modeling. From the time I was 5 till about the time i was 13, I did different types of dance and theater, but modeling was never really on my radar again until I was 18.

DJS: How did you get started modeling at 18?

AN: People just kinda started to tell me that I should do it. Being an only child I enjoyed being the center of attention, and even tho I’m a bit of an introvert, I do like the spot light. Sometimes when I look at pictures of myself, I’m like “no that’s not me”. I don’t necessarily see what other people see, and even growing up, boys didn’t really like me. I was 90 pounds, because i was so active, but maturity and confidence came with time. My first shoot was with a guy named Javier Padella, and it went really well, I was very comfortable with everything. And after that, it gave me a little window into how large a modeling career could be.

DJS: Whats been your favorite shoot so far.

AN: It was a commercial shoot in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco, and everything came out SO well. I woke up that morning, and I was just sick and tired, and just wasn’t physically up to going, but I didn’t want to flake, so I dragged myself there, and fortunately the photos came out amazing.

DJS: So I know you do a lot more than just photoshoots, what video shoots have been your favorites?

AN: I would have to say, my favorite music video that I’ve been in, is the PZ featuring San Quinn and The Jacka, that was my favorite shoot. Everybody was just really cool. It was outside, it was in the sun, it was laid back, fun, and a very professional environment.

DJS: In terms of music videos if you could work with anyone, who would you want to shoot with?

AN: I’d LOVE to do a Beyonce video, simply because she’s so inspiring to women, so is everything she portrays. As for men, I always want to be more than just a video vixen shaking her ass, I want to be part of the story, I want to portray women in a better light than just being a whore. So more along the lines of Common, or Musiq Soul Child who are some of my favorite artists. And even a little sexier like Rahim Devaughn.

DJS: Do you think that you growing up in the bay gives you an edge over people in your industry that were born and raised in cities like New York or L.A.?

AN: I feel it gives me an edge because I have a lot less of a sense of entitlement. I want to work to become an icon, not just feel like because I was raised in a place with a lot of icons that I deserve to be one. I also want to give young women and girls something to strive for, instead of looking up to someone who only uses their beauty or their looks to get what they want. I’ve grown up to love making a difference and to just have fun with what I do.

DJS: Are there any photographers or artists that you’d want to work with in the future?

AN: I would love to work with any Bay artist that wants to make a difference instead of fitting a mold. I love the work from RiSF, and I’d love to work with them. And other than that I’ve already worked with some of the best, like Rick Flare, San Quinn and The Jacka. Outside of bay based artists, I was recently a production assistant on a J Valentine video, so working with him again would be great.

DJS: So I know you’ve talked about producing videos, and being a production assistant, so aside from being infront of the camera, what else do you do.

AN: I’m a makeup artist, and thanks to one of my really good friends Hagar Elaziz who’s produced videos for Quincy (Diddy’s son) and tons of bay area artists I’ve gotten the opportunity to be a PA, and do production coordination. She really helped me to get a behind the scenes feel for the entertainment business, which made me realize that there’s a lot more work to experience aside from being IN a video. She’s gotten me to appreciate all the work that goes into filming, and the entire production process behind a video.

DJS: As a model what are some of the things you’d hope to accomplish throughout the course of your career

AN: I have a very interesting look, in the sense that my face is very ‘commercial’ and my body is very ‘urban’, as of right now I’m really trying to find my place. I’d love to do actual commercial reels, for things like make up, or Fredricks, or clothing lines. But I know I’d love to grace the pages of Maxim and GQ. I’m versatile, so taking over the world is also an option. I love what I do, and I don’t want fame for the money, I want fame to change the world. I know that sounds like a very cookie cutter answer, but I’m just an ugly ducking trying to break out of my shell.

DJS: What type of music do you normally listen to?

AN: R&B and Hip Hop have always been favorites. Like I said before, I love Common, Mos Def, or anyone who tells a story in their music. For R&B, its people like Chrisette Michelle, and Beyonce, because once again, she’s a strong woman who shows you can also be sexy.

DJS: So I ask this in EVERY interview, and I love the responses I get from this question. Obviously you have guys chasing you around all the time, so what’s the worst line you’ve ever heard from a guy… So far?

AN: I honestly couldn’t give one particular story. But I hate it when guys talk to me, and look at my ass at the same time. I don’t know how you expect to get a response from me when your hollering “Aye, Aye lil mama!” and your staring at my ass before you look into my eyes.

DJS: Well I’m sure that can be annoying, but on the flip side, whats your ideal man?

AN: Someone that’s willing to pleas, but strong. I want my man to be my best friend, tell me everything. Communication is key. I don’t ask for much, but it seems to be a lot since I’m still single.

DJS: Do you have any advice for those girls out there who are trying to get started in either commercial modeling or urban modeling?

AN: Simply put… Follow your instincts, and stay true to who you are. Don’t let this business change you.

DJS: And where can guys (or girls) find more info on you?

AN: On twitter @BaYbAyBaY415 or on Facebook, but for serious inquiries, hit me on my Model Mayhem. And thanks to my manager, I’ll have my own .com by Christmas. Stay tuned.

Vera Wang’s New Glass House.

As you can see by some of my previous posts, I love high class homes, but apparently I’m not the only one.  Fashion designer Vera Wang has bought a contemporary home in Beverly Hills, for about $10 million; the home was listed in March for $10.9 million.  The midcentury-modern home was completely renovated and has four bedrooms, a home theater and walls of glass. There’s also a pool and spa.

Tokyo 24 – Aeonian Complex EP.

Click the pic to listen.

The group Tokyo 24 has been compared to the likes of Theophilus London, N.E.R.D., and Kanye West, all without having released either an EP, or LP.  But the hype has been building when the group announced their first EP project Aeonian Complex.  (I’ve even posted a few of the preliminary ads on the blog last week) And finally the finished product is out on the web for fans and new finders alike to listen to and enjoy.  Click the pic to hear ‘Aeonian Complex’.

Air Swimmers.

If your in your mid to late 20′s, I know you’ve had one of those moments where you see a toy commercial, and you think to yourself “I never had any of that fancy sh*t when I was little.”  When I saw this, I had that exact same reaction.  ‘Air Swimmers’ are nothing more than remote controlled plastic blimps, but when you paint a shark on it, and give it a tail fin to maneuver with, it adds a little bit of magic that will definitely excite both kids and parents alike.  Check the method below.

Louis Vuitton Book of Architecture and Interiors.

Louis Vuitton plans to release Louis Vuitton: Architecture & Interior, a new book that showcases the foundations and structures of its worldwide stores.  The book shows some of the most memorable Louis Vuitton retail spaces. It provides scetches, blue prints and of course many amazing pictures.  The book will feature 300 illustrations including previously unpublished architect’s sketches and interviews with Peter Marino, Christian de Portzamparc and Jun Aoki.  The 304-page book will be available October 1st by Rizzoli and Editions de La Martinière, priced at $85.  There will also be a limited edition version with three photographs on the cover, matched with three monogrammed fabric slipcases in gold, silver and copper, retailing for $130.

Josh Farria: Craftmanship.

Click to R.S.V.P.

I’ve featured a vast collection of photographers on this great blog, but none so far have the same creative style, or characteristic intricacies as Josh Farria.  Now, this in normally the part where I go into detail about what makes this artist stand out from the sea of mundane, generic photographers that litter the internet.  But instead, I’d rather invite you to see for yourself next Friday night in San Francisco at the Infinite store on 627 Post.  The rest of the info is in the photo above, and check the method in the photos below to get a taste of the amazing work being displayed at the gallery.  Click the pic above to R.S.V.P.

Downhill Salt Mine Skating.

Few things aside from street hockey make rollerblading redeeming. This guy manages to maintain his dignity and more as he glides down a mineshaft around curves and even a jump. He ends it all with a little flair, stopping on a dime before he crashes face-first into the wall at the end of the tunnel (which may have actually made the ending better).

The ‘Tardis’ Port Melbourne House.

Doctor Who fans will probably know the secret of the tardis. Bigger on the inside than it appears on the out. Who could imagine such high open spaces could be lurking behind this narrow single fronted house in Port Melbourne? A clever extension lifts the space to follow the roof pitch and seamlessly melds the inside and out. Features that speak to me are the  two “open” bathrooms, the way light is brought into the centre of the house through a series of pitched skylights and a clever open garden room.  Lovely.

Norwegian Hosts First Twitter-Themed Cruise.

Norwegian Cruise Line has announced plans for the world’s first at-sea tweetup for cruise-loving social media enthusiasts.  The SeaTweetup will be a three-night cruise around the Bahamas and is billed by the organizers as the world’s meeting for Twitter users at sea.  The cruise, departing Miami on November 18, will be hosted by Norwegian Cruise Line’s 2,002-passenger Norwegian Sky and is organized by, among others, social media TV show SocialBuzzTV and digital media consultants Social Esquire.
