On Tuesday, Marvel’s Iron Man 3 became Disney’s fifth release to cross the $400 million mark at the domestic box office. The film, which has now earned over $1.2 billion and is the #5 film of all time globally, also recently passed Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides and is currently the #6 film of all time at the international box office with more than $803 million.  After achieving the second-biggest domestic opening in history with $174.1 million, Iron Man 3 crossed the $1 billion threshold globally in 23 days, making it Disney’s sixth billion-dollar and second highest-grossing release of all time, behind only Marvel’s The Avengers.

While doing the research on the box office gross of the latest Ironman film, I came across a small collection done by Marvel in 2010 for ‘Iron Man: Industrial Revolution’ put up by Juan Doe.  Check the epic artwork.

Two of the most highly anticipated movies of the summer just got brand new trailers (on the same day).  With shots of Kirk apologizing to his entire crew for pretty much getting them on the endangered species list, some interesting new views of Krypton, Pike giving Kirk some fatherly advice, and Kal El beating the crap out of Zod, both trailers are a must watch.  Check them out.

Re-Design of Alice Tully Hall

Alice Tully Hall 02.23.09 f6d066a78f45c80eb8ef9744041c5304

The re-design of Alice Tully Hall is intended to transform the venue from a good multi-purpose hall into a premiere chamber music venue with street identity and upgraded functionality for all performance needs. Tucked under The Juilliard School, the opaque base of Pietro Belluschi’s building is stripped away to reveal the hall’s outer shell. The sloped underside of Juilliard’s expansion serves as the canopy framing the hall, its expanded lobby and box office. A shear one-way cable net glass façade puts the hall on display. The liner of African moabi is tailored around all existing hall features and new programmatic elements to eliminate visual noise and illumination emerges from the wood skin the way a bioluminescent marine organism exudes an internal glow. A percentage of the wood liner is constructed of translucent custom-molded resin panels surfaced in veneer to match and blend seamlessly with the wood, binding the house and stage with light. Like the raising of a chandelier or the parting of a curtain signaling the start of performance, the blush will be part of the performance choreography: a hush will fall in the seconds of transition from distraction to attention when the blushing walls become the first performer.
