When it comes to Amazon Prime produced films, they ARE… films. Some are considered great, other are just noted as B rate. However ‘The Pickup’ at least appears to be using a different mold. We can’t say its breaking the buddy-cop comedy formula, but just adding some unexpected ingredients. With the reveal of Eddie Murphy as a security guard, one immediately thinks ’48 Hours’, ‘Trading Places’, or (the obvious) ‘Beverly Hills Cop’, and they seem (at least in parts) to be getting that. Murphy however is along side Pete Davidson, who’s comedic styling, while good, may (or may not) match Murphys exactly. Both the comedic prowess and combination of actors WE hope will safely delivery a new action comedy safely to its target. If for nothing else, the trailer soundtrack hits hard.
In the action-comedy The Pickup, a routine cash pickup takes a wild turn when two mismatched armored truck drivers, Russell (Eddie Murphy) and Travis (Pete Davidson), are ambushed by ruthless criminals led by a savvy mastermind, Zoe (Keke Palmer), with plans that go way beyond the cash cargo. As chaos unfolds around them, the unlikely duo must navigate high-risk danger, clashing personalities, and one very bad day that keeps getting worse.
