Jaguar just revealed a new electric car concept called the Type 00 at Art Basel Miami. It has a dramatic, retro-inspired design, but many people online mocked its bright pink color and shape, comparing it to a “Barbie car” or “Batmobile.”
Jaguar says the design shows the future of the brand, aiming to be bold and artistic. They want to move away from their older style and attract rich, younger buyers. The company has been struggling with sales and is now only making electric cars that cost over $100,000. Some experts think Jaguar is losing its identity by changing too much and trying too hard to be fancy, like Rolls-Royce. A recent ad campaign with models and no car in it got criticized, and even Elon Musk made fun of it.
Jaguar leadership says the criticism is unfair, and they want to stand out by not acting like a typical car brand. The first car based on this new design will be a four-door electric sedan with a long range, coming in 2025. Still, some say Jaguar would have done better by sticking to their classic sporty designs, rather than going all-electric and changing everything.
