Rick Ross feat. Future “Neighborhood Drug Dealer Remix”.

The Edge Effect

Daniel Kukla is a photographer who had formal training in biological and anthropological sciences. His educational background plays a major part of his artistic practice, and this can be seen in his clever project titled, The Edge Effect.

In the description and explanation of the project, Kukla writes,

In March of 2012, I was awarded an artist’s residency by the United States National Park Service in southern California’s Joshua Tree National Park. While staying in the Park, I spent much of my time visiting the borderlands of the park and the areas where the low Sonoran desert meets the high Mojave desert. While hiking and driving, I caught glimpses of the border space created by the meeting of distinct ecosystems in juxtaposition, referred to as the Edge Effect in the ecological sciences. To document this unique confluence of terrains, I hiked out a large mirror and painter’s easel into the wilderness and captured opposing elements within the environment. Using a single visual plane, this series of images unifies the play of temporal phenomena, contrasts of color and texture, and natural interactions of the environment itself.

It is amazing how the photos look like they’re of paintings of the desert placed within the desert.

Amazing sculpturing

“The breathtaking beauty of his work simply can’t be expressed in words, you must see for yourself.”

China has a long tradition of wooden sculptures. For centuries they are  transforming pieces of raw wood into works of inspiring art , but none as impressive as the sheer creation of Zheng Chunhui . This talented Chinese artist spent the last four years meticulously carving a detailed replica of a famous traditional Chinese painting called ” Along the River during the Qingming Festival ” in the trunk of a little over 12 feet long tree.

The breathtaking beauty of his work simply can’t be expressed in words, you must see for yourself . As you can imagine, Zheng Chunhui needed a mountain of patience to complete his masterpiece of wood that displays boats, bridges, buildings and more than 550 people individually carved. Impressive!

“The breathtaking beauty of his work simply can’t be expressed in words, you must see for yourself.”

“The breathtaking beauty of his work simply can’t be expressed in words, you must see for yourself.”

The Chinese artist was also honored by the Guinness Book with the new world record for the longest wood carving , measuring 12.286 meters of long, 3.075 meters in height and 2.401 m width.

“The breathtaking beauty of his work simply can’t be expressed in words, you must see for yourself.”

“The breathtaking beauty of his work simply can’t be expressed in words, you must see for yourself.”

When we hear of ” masterpiece” , this is just the kind of creation that deserves such title. Zheng Chunhui definitely deserves all the attention.

“The breathtaking beauty of his work simply can’t be expressed in words, you must see for yourself.”

The Beauty of China’s Rice Field Terraces

French photographer Thierry Bornier captures breathtaking landscape photos that highlight the rich splendor of China’s mountains, rivers, and rice field terraces. From the highest vantage point he can climb up to, he points his camera downwards and waits for weather and lighting conditions that are just right before he releases the shutter. His precise care and endless patience pay off, as evidenced by his stunning aerial shots that are filled with vibrant colors, incredible atmosphere, and intriguing hints of storytelling.

Looking at his dazzling images, it’s surprising to learn that Bornier is entirely self-taught when it comes to photography. With an MBA in finance, he spent most of his career working as the Chief Financial Officer for an international fashion company in New York. He ended up in China by chance when he was transferred there by his company eight years ago, but he soon found himself captivated by the land and the culture.

After a photo he had taken (just out of personal interest) was featured as National Geographic’s “Picture of the Day” in 2010, Bornier decided to leave his steady finance job and follow his passion for photography. He told us in an email, “I always felt that I wanted to do something more creative and artistic than finance and accounting, so I made up my mind, bought a new camera, and started to shoot anything in order to understand the concept of photography. Step by step, I improved my skills.” Since then, Bornier taught himself studio photography and has built a career shooting celebrities, fashion spreads, and advertising campaigns in China. These jobs allow him to continue doing what he loves best: venturing into the countryside to photograph spectacular nature scenes as well as local people.

The Yunnan-based photographer gave us some insight on how he captures images that are so gorgeously vivid, they’re almost surreal. Scroll down to read the key elements that go into his work.

STORY

All places I choose to capture must have a story to tell.

MOOD

I love fog and cloudy weather for some of my pictures because they give the place the feeling of a painting. I go during the right season, and sometimes I need to wait until I can capture the mood that I want. I don’t like to take photos of landscapes with a pure blue sky; that’s not my style at all.

LIGHT

The most important element of my photography is lighting. The beautiful landscape is there in front of you—nature did that for you, you didn’t have to do anything. So the next step is how to capture this beautiful landscape. In your mind, you must think through all the possible lighting scenarios and imagine what will create the best fine art photo. It’s that mental image.

SKY

The photographer should never be satisfied if the complete image can’t be captured perfectly. Let’s say your image includes the sky and clouds. I won’t just pay attention to what’s in my foreground and background because they can’t be changed, but the sky will always change from day to day. I consider the sky just as important as the rest of my image, so I will wait for the perfect sky in terms of lighting and clouds. The quality of the clouds is also very important in order to create a real three-dimensional look, making my images appear more like surreal landscapes.

SPIRIT

I believe each photographer should not only use what he sees, but he should also always use his heart and spirit to create something different. The picture is made with your heart, not your camera. Once you understand how to use your camera, I would advise you to focus more on learning how to use your eyes to read the beauty in front of you, and then using your heart to capture it.

To conclude, Bornier told us, “I guess the combination of all of these make my own style and my photos look very beautiful, almost surreal, or like Chinese paintings. But trust me, if you came to one of my workshops, you would see these amazing landscapes in real life because they actually exist and look so beautiful. China is a huge country and has many diverse landscapes. I always feel amazed by this beautiful country.”

Royal Flush Super Slide

Florida is home to some awesome water parks.
But, nothing has caught our attention and the attention of millions like a new ride in Waco, Texas.
It’s called the Royal Flush and opened at BSR Cable Park earlier this year.
According to BSR Cable Park’s website, Royal Flush is the tallest and longest water slide in the world.
Royal Flush is 60 feet tall and has three 120 foot-long slides.
A video of the slide in action was posted on June 16, it has been viewed more than 8 million times.
The website states that all riders must wear a U.S. Coast Guard approved life jacket to ride the slide, but the promotional video does not show anyone wearing one.
The park charges $15 for an all-day pass.

Pia Mia- Do It Again feat. Chris Brown and Tyga- Official Video

Pia Mia has been making a wave or the past couple years and seems to have reached a new height with her current hit single ‘Do It Again”. The video was shot at the beach and features Chris Brown and Tyga, who also appeared on the track.

“Getting to do this record with Chris and Tyga was a very special experience for me,” Pia told Rap-Up. “They’re both artists that I love and have listened to for a long time, and getting to see how they work in the studio is inspiring to me.”

The mix of the two rappers and her strong vocals are a great combination for the track.  Tyga couldn’t help but give her a major shoutout today on his social media. “Congrats @princesspiamia on the new video#DoItAgain,” he wrote, along with a still from the video.

Time-lapsed nude dancer

NY-based photographer Shinichi Maruyama created these lovely photographs using nearly 10,000 individual photographs of a nude dancer in motion. The abstract images remind me of Japanese ink wash painting, as if the figures were created by the stroke of a thick brush, which is not unsurprising considering Maruyama’s previous work with water sculptures. Of the photos Shin says:

I tried to capture the beauty of both the human body’s figure and its motion. The figure in the image, which is formed into something similar to a sculpture, is created by combining 10,000 individual photographs of a dancer. By putting together uninterrupted individual moments, the resulting image as a whole will appear to be something different from what actually exists. With regard to these two viewpoints, a connection can be made to a human being’s perception of presence in life.

Tech Tools Productivity Experts Can’t Live Without

Ever wonder which tools super-productive and super-organized people use to get things done? Fast Company contacted 10 productivity experts, and asked them which apps or tech tools help them get through their day.

Here’s a dozen tools they recommend you check out:

1. Android Wear

Smartwatches are the biggest upcoming innovation for productivity, especially to-do lists, says Amir Salihefendic, CEO and founder of the task-management app Todoist. While they don’t provide much new functionality over smartphones, Android Wear devices, which start at $199, make things faster to process because you can quickly add tasks using only your voice, says Salihefendic.

“They also make reminders more powerful since you can complete or postpone them without lifting your phone from your pocket and unlocking it—you just need to look at your wrist,” he says.

2. Post-it Plus

Digital lifestyle expert and Today show tech contributor Carley Knobloch says brainstorming with her team is easier when she uses Post-it Plus, a free app for Apple devices that works with paper Post-it Notes, allowing you to manage them digitally.

“Capture all of your Post-its in one photo, and the app breaks them up and makes them reorganizable and sharable,” she says. “It’s brilliant.”

3. Sunrise

Knobloch also likes the free calendar app Sunrise, which has features that streamline activities, such as automatically dialing into a conference call. The app also imports photos of people your contacts via their social media profiles.

“When I’m on a conference call, I can see all their faces [on my calendar],” says Knobloch. “And its clean intuitive interface makes it a pleasure to use.”

4. Uskape

Claire Burge, owner of Get Organised Ireland, gave up email two years ago because it dampered her productivity. “I’m always in search of a solution that organizes my work and takes the emphasis away from the inbox,” she says.

Burge recently started using Uskape, an app currently in beta testing, which integrates all of her work in one place, including once siloed apps like email and Evernote.

“Now I can see my workflow in one connected workspace; it’s much easier to know where all of my projects stand,” she says.

5. Slack

Omer Perchik, founder of the task-management app Any.do likes to streamline communication with his team by using Slack, a free tool that eliminates the need for internal emails. It includes features such as group and private messaging, inline images and videos, rich link summaries, and notifications.

Slack integrates with Twitter, Dropbox, and Google Drive, and automatically syncs between your computer, smartphone, and tablet.

6. Noisli

Perchik also likes Noisli, a $1.99 app for Apple devices that offers background sounds you can use while you work. The app identifies noises that help with productivity or relaxation. For example, sounds that can help you focus include rain, wind, a campfire, and a fan.

“Noisli helps me eliminate distractions at work,” says Perchik. “White noises help me stay concentrated and productive.”

7. Jamie’s To Do

While a lot of apps out there help you keep track of tasks, Peter Walsh, author of Lighten Up: Love What You Have, Have What You Need, Be Happier With Less (Free Press; 2012), has a new favorite: Jamie’s To Do. Available for Apple devices, the free app organizes your to-do list with an easy-to-use layout that doesn’t overcomplicate the process, says Walsh.

“You can easily identify tasks you need to do and their level of priority,” he says. “And you get a really satisfying feeling when you’ve crossed an item off your list.”

Jamie’s To Do was created by an app developer who was impressed with his wife’s organizing skills, and its design is based on her process. “Could there be a more modern take on the classic love letter?” asks Walsh.

8. Eternity Time Log

To be more productive, it helps to know how you’re spending your time, says Julie Morgenstern, author of Shed Your Stuff, Change Your Life: a Four-Step Guide to Getting Unstuck (Touchstone; 2009). She recommends using Eternity Time Log, a time-tracking app for Apple devices. The lite version is free, while the full app, which includes more categories and functions, is $14.99.

“It measures how much time you work versus personal time, and how much time you’re doing proactive work versus things like interruptions,” says Morgenstern. “You get a report each week, so you can no longer say, ‘I don’t know where the time goes.’”

9. Alarmed

Peggy Duncan, author of Time Management Memory Jogger (GOAL/QPC; 2011), says she likes to use her brain for thinking and external cues to help her remember. Alarmed, a free app for Apple devices, does just that. Like a customizable alarm clock, Alarmed lets you set single and recurring reminders, as well as add custom text, lead time, and snooze features.

“This app was built with time management in mind,” says Duncan.

10. Timeful

Gary Keller, author of The One Thing: The Surprisingly Simple Truth Behind Extraordinary Results (Bard Press; 2013), is an advocate of time-blocking tasks to get them done. “Simply put, you make regular appointments with yourself to do your most important work,” he says.

He uses the free app Timeful as a way to time-block and organize his day. Timeful, which is currently available for Apple devices and will soon release web-based and Android versions, helps prioritize your daily activities.

If there’s a scheduling conflict when adding an activity to your calendar, for example, the app will suggest another time based on your personal routine. You can also enter habits you wish to build, such as dedicating a few hours each morning to making sales calls, says Keller, who is also cofounder and chairman of Keller Williams Realty. “Timeful proactively suggests times to do that task, tracks your progress, and reminds you when it’s time to get to work,” he says.

11. PaperKarma

To reduce the amount of mail she receives and has to process, Maura Thomas, author of Personal Productivity Secrets (Wiley; 2012), uses the free app PaperKarma, available or Apple and Android devices, which creates a central location from which you can unsubscribe and halt delivery of unwanted mail.

“It’s great for reducing the clutter and ideally, saving lots of trees,” says Thomas. “PaperKarma also helps harness the collective preferences of individual consumers and communicates those preferences to corporations.”

12. Skitch

If you ever wished you could manipulate an image, you can with Skitch, a free app that is integrated with Evernote. Alexandra Samuel, author of Work Smarter, Rule Your Email (Harvard Business Review Press; 2014), uses the tool to share ideas with her team. Once available only for Apple devices, the app was recently released for Windows.

“I use Skitch for everything from quickly communicating website glitches to making quick images to uploading to social networks to annotative documents,” says Samuel. “Just yesterday captured a screenshot of the thumbnail view of a PowerPoint deck, and used Skitch’s built-in annotation to indicate all the changes I needed our designer to make to the slides.”

Over the past several months, hoverboards have inexplicably become a regular topic of conversation. It started with a Back to the Future-inspired prank from Tony Hawk early last year. Before long, a Kickstarter for a real hoverboard started making the rounds and now, over a year after the original prank video, Lexus is building its own ride-able hoverboard.

SLIDE is the fourth project in the Lexus ‘Amazing in Motion’ series, which has included drones and robots in the past. According to Lexus’ website, the hoverboard “uses magnetic levitation to achieve amazing frictionless movement. Liquid nitrogen cooled superconductors and permanent magnets combine to allow Lexus to create the impossible.”

Sadly, we don’t get to see anyone actually ride the hoverboard in the debut video, but Lexus promises we’ll see more updates from the project in the coming weeks. Watch the video below:

Future Touch Tech Design

The user simply attaches the central unit to any glass surface like a window or coffee table, switches on the power, and watches their system light up before their eyes. The display appears as an interactive hologram on the glass that the user merely has to touch to operate. It also makes for an easy, take-anywhere way to project photos and presentations or stream movies.

Fear the Walking Dead Trailer

AMC has offered up a glimpse of why we should all fear The Walking Dead prequel Fear the Walking Dead. This 30-second clip showcases series co-star Frank Dillane racing away from an unseen threat, which we all know to be a brain-hungry zombie.

But, in the world of the series, Dillane’s character, Nick, may not be entirely aware of what’s going on. That’s partly because he’s a college dropout with a bad drug habit, but also due to the fact that the series begins in the early days of the zombie apocalypse (a stretch of time during which Walking Dead hero Rick Grimes was in a coma), when the general public hasn’t yet awakened to the fact that civilization as they knew it was ending.

That’s a collapse that Fear the Walking Dead, which takes place in Los Angeles, will follow as the episodes progress, though creator Robert Kirkman also says the new series will eventually jump forward in time to line up with the chronology of its zombie mothership. Along with Dillane, the cast includes Kim Dickens and Cliff Curtis as an affianced couple, and Ruben Blades and Mercedes Mason as a father and daughter.

Fear the Walking Dead premieres in August on AMC.

In the “Grass Is Always Greener” video we get two Ludacrises’, one wearing a bucket hat with a bunch of sexy ladies, while the other one is a more conservative family man. The two are new neighbors, and that sets up the storyline for the visual.  It reflects struggles he deals with in his own life and it shows in the lyrics and setting of the song. It just sounds very real and is one of my favorite tracks of his new album, which is out now, called Ludaversal.

Watch the new music video above. It’s off his recent album Ludaversal, in stores now.

Wooden Bathtubs Really Go with the Flow

Combining German hand-crafting expertise and curved ship hull construction methods, this patterned wooden tub shoots both to satisfy the eye and to soothe any aching back.

Alegna specializes in exotic woods like wenge and mahogany that show off grain patterns with stark contrasts or work for lightweight-requiring (e.g. nautical) applications.

Some of their tubs form monolithic built-in masses while others are free-standing and come with stone-filled surrounds. All are made to be equipped with jacuzzi features on demand. Nothing too avante garde, to be sure, but attractive all around.

Beyond baths, their custom bathroom fixtures and furnishings include sinks and cabinets featuring the same attention to wood grain patterns and craft details, inward-flowing blocks of attractive woods.

Lil Mama “Sausage”

The former chart-topper took a lengthy hiatus from rap to focus on her other passion: dancing. She devoted herself to being a judge for seven seasons on the reality competition series America’s Best Dance Crew. Now she finds herself once again trying to get back to the music and what brought her to the limelight in the first place: her knack for delivering catchy rhymes. With the release of her safe-sex ode “Sausage,” her first attention-grabbing single in about five years, she’s matured and giving millennials some sage advice.

“Sausage” picks up were “Lip Gloss” left off as far as simplicity goes and lyrics that you can’t get out of your head, all over a solid boom bap rhythm. However, the focus is less on looks this time. Lil Mama is promoting a more mature message of safe sex. “Eggs, bacon grits (sausage) / You better use a condom if you taking that (sausage),” she rhymes on the hook.

It becomes clear through the positive message on “Sausage” that the “VYP” has been resurrected. Lil Mama does a noteworthy job of bridging the old school with the new. The rapper uses more than a dozen sonic references of hip-hop hits old and new. The infusion of throwbacks like Slick Rick’s “Mona Lisa,” Wu-Tang Clan’s “C.R.E.A.M.” and Kelis’ “Milkshake,” with contemporary tracks like Fetty Wap’s “Trap Queen” and Cheddar Da Connect’s “Flicka da Wrist” showcases her creativity. Mama is in touch with what’s hot right now while simultaneously being respectful of the forefathers of hip-hop who paved the way.

11 Pieces of Fantastically Geeky Furniture

Most geeks have plenty of nerdy knickknacks piled around the house. But if you really want your fandom to shine, do it with your home décor. Here are 11 of the coolest geek furniture designs from around the net.

1. The Nintendo Controller Table

One of the most famous pieces of geek furniture in the world, Charles Lushear’s Nintendo controller table is also one of the most functional. That’s because it not only serves as a coffee table, but it can also serve as a giant NES controller. Talk about fun furniture.

2. A Scrabble Seating Area

While the letter holder couches and tile-inspired pillows are already enough to make this seating area fantastic, the use of the center and triple word squares as tables really ties the whole Scrabble area together.

3. A Tetris Chair

Sure, anyone could design a chair that looks like it is made from Tetris pieces, but if you really want to celebrate the classic game, the pieces need to be able to come apart, and that’s why Gabriel Cañas’ Tetris chair is so darn perfect. Of course, only Tetris experts should ever take it apart, otherwise they may never be able to put it back into chair shape again.

4. A Millennium Falcon Bed

Of course, Kayla Kromer’s Millennium Falcon bed might be the sexiest piece of geek furniture in the galaxy –especially when she’s curled up on it in her full Princess Leia outfit.

5. The Totoro Bed

Part bed, part sleeping bag, this Totoro sleeping area provides all the cuddliness of your favorite Hayao Miyazaki character. While it’s made for kids, it is reasonably large, so adults can use it too, but if you really need to stretch out, there are larger versions available on eBay.

6. Mario World Shelves and Table

Neatorama reader Dennis built this amazing set of shelves and the matching table with his girlfriend Judith. The best part is the top middle shelf that is boosted above the rest because Mario and Luigi obviously just jumped into it to get a red mushroom.

7. The Pac-Man Chair

For those who prefer munching pills and ghosts to locking blocks in place, the PacM chair by Jose Jorge Hinojosa Primo is a great way to curl up in nostalgia for your favorite old-school game.

8. An iPhone Table

More of a modernist? Then don’t miss out on this great iPhone table by iLounge readers Tuan Nguyen and Ken Thomas. Not only does it look great, but the apps are actually functional – at least, as coasters.

9. The Literal Periodic Table

If you really want a geektastic table though, there’s no better option than this beautiful Periodic Table that comes complete with samples of every element contained therein.  In case you’re wondering, all the elements are contained within clear acrylic blocks in order to help preserve and store the samples safely.

10. The Han Solo Desk

A Specialized ‘Laser Art’ System Etches a Design onto a Chalkboard at Astonishing Speed

Filmed in December of last year, this specialized laser system at LasX Industries in Minnesota is capable of drawing on surfaces at a rate of up to 6 meters per second. In this example, a design by Andy Gikling is executed in a two-step process. First, the laser moves back and forth in a more familiar raster mode similar to an inkjet or typical laser printer, but at the 1:40 mark things get insane as the system switches to a “vector” process and starts drawing all over the place in real time. If I understand this correctly you’re seeing almost 100,000 vectors drawn in about two minutes and thirty seconds.

Incredible Balloon Sculptures of Animals and Insects by Masayoshi Matsumoto

balloon-3

Don’t show these to your kids unless you want them to be completely underwhelmed by every balloon animal they see for the rest of their lives. Japanese balloon twister Masayoshi Matsumoto makes some of the most intricate balloon sculptures I’ve ever encountered. From prickly iguanas to glowing sea creatures it seems no life form is too difficult for Matsumoto to faithfully interpret using nothing but balloons. You can follow more of his work on Tumblr and on FB. (via Neatorama)
