Dr Dre’s New Album Drops TOMORROW?

Dr-Dre

As previously reported, Dr. Dre has recorded an original soundtrack for the forthcoming N.W.A. biopic Straight Outta Compton. According to the film’s director F. Gary Gray, the OST contains new music from Dre and features contributions from Kendrick Lamar and Eminem, among others.  Now, in a interview with Philadelphia’s Power 99, Dre’s N.W.A. group mate Ice Cube has revealed the entire album will be dropping on August 1st.  “It’s mega, it’s Dr. Dre, it’s what everybody’s been waiting for,” Ice Cube explained. “It’s definitely a dope record, and he’s dropping it all on the same day.” He also confirmed the soundtrack contains new music from N.W.A.

Ice Cube was also asked about reports that N.W.A. would be reuniting for a reunion tour with Eminem filling in for the late Eazy-E. While both Dre and Eminem have disputed their involvement, Ice Cube told Power 99 that “We’ve definitely been talking about it. It’s just really about promotors coming to the table and we put together something that works for everybody. It’s definitely, definitely possible.”  Watch Ice Cube discuss Dre’s album and the possibility of N.W.A.’s possible reunion below.

Flemish Superheroes

Artist and Costume designer Jackie Tadeoni takes a new spin on superheroes costumes in Flemish style.

What if Superman was born in the sixteenth century?
And what if the Hulk was a Duke?
How might Van Eyck have portrayed Snow White?

The collection demonstrates the use of 17 century techniques counterpointing light and shadow to illustrate nobility and fragility of the super powerful of all times. It also invites you to celebrate the heroes of your childhood. These characters have become icons to reveal their humanity: tired of having to save the world without respite, promised to a destiny of endless immortality, forever trapped in their character.
The superheroes often live their lives cloaked in anonymity. These portraits give them a chance to « fix » their narcissism denied. By the temporal disturbance they produce, these images allow us to discover, under the patina of time, an unexpected melancholy of those who are to be invincible.

As science fiction meets history of art, time meets an inexhaustible desire for mythology which is within each of us.

Meanwhile… Back At Drake’s House (Back to Back).

Drake-Angry-Philip-Seymour-Hoffman-Gets-His-Rolling-Stone-Cover

I was having a conversation earlier in the week with my good friend and producer Masna, about Drake’s semi-response to Meek Mills’ accusations of Drizzy’s lyrics on Meeks album being ghost written. I personally thought his first response was a bit soft served. A rapper who built a career around “Diss me, and you’ll never hear a reply for it.” finally straight up disses someone one, but it was only a few subliminal bars that rang through on a mellow “not addressing the subject” feel.  What I told Manni is that Drake should have come full force in his response, a blistering rebutle of indictments oozing with ferocity… And then he did. Take a listen to October’s Very Own’s second diss track titled “Back to Back” and sound off on what you think.

The ZIIIRO Mercury.

The ZIIIRO Mercury watch displays time in a simple and unique way. The tip of the inner swirl represents the current hour, while the outer swirl displays the minutes, with a continuous gradient movement showing the passing through time.  Brilliantly designed, and something I’d thoroughly love to have for my birthday.

Drake- ‘Charged Up’

drake-cover-990

Earlier this week, the rapper Meek Mill unleashed a series of tweets that sought to expose the much more famous rapper Drake as a fraud. The two had recently collaborated on the Meek Mill single “R.I.C.O.,” and Meek seemed a bit salty that Drake hadn’t promoted the tune on his social media or whatever his reason was, so he accused him of using a ghostwriter on the tune and faking his raps. Drake stayed relatively quiet about it until he released his response ‘Charged Up’ today. Check it out below!

Throwback Thursday: Field Mob – ‘Sick Of Being Lonely’.

2011-topic-pages-music-field-mob

Throwback Thursday now has a new meaning (on the blog anyway), and we’ll be reminding you of some of those hits that modern music community will never forget.  I remember the first time I heard Field Mob, because I never stopped hearing their hit “Sick of Being Lonely” after that.  Check out the throwback below.

Jayceeoh, From The Studio To The Stage.

2013_5_14_Jayceeoh__MG_7534-1

LA-based party rocker, turntable guru and a Serato DJ, Jayceeoh is a man who does not stop. Following international acclaim for his “Super 7″ mixtape series, Jayceeoh, born Jacob Osher, became the official tour DJ for the likes of DJ Sammy Adams and Wiz Khalifa, and to date has worked alongside Jazzy Jeff, A-Trak, Redman and Talib Kweli to name a few.

When he’s not playing at premier club venues around North America and Europe you’ll find Osher in the studio. Along with a steady stream of bass-heavy remixes, Osher has produced original tracks with DJ Scene, Steve1Der and Caked Up. At present, production is number one for Osher, having figured out his way around a turntable long ago (he’s a two-time national DMC finalist and was crowned M.I.C Turntablist of the Year two years running).

From the beginning, Pretty Beach House set a new standard not just because of its exquisite location and its exclusive home-like setting of just four private villas, but it also exceeded all expectations in terms of cuisine.  We stayed there every year and consistently kept it on our 10 best places to stay list, together with Castello Di Reschio in Italy , El Palauet in Barcelona land Saffire in Tasmania.  But it late 2012, a fire destroyed much of the main pavilion and our favorite resort closed for more than two years for complete restoration.  The main pavilion is elegantly restored with decommissioned railway timbers from 1883 and each of the four pavilions – Treetops, Bayview, Hideaway and The Retreat – are beautifully appointed with works and craftsmanship of local and international artists and artisans.

The resort continues its tradition as a foodies paradise with its spectacularly cool new kitchen led by distinguished chefs and restaurateurs, Stefano Manfredi and Julie Manfredi Hughes, whose incredible cuisine impresses us every single time.  The interior design of the villas is un-pretentious and  beautifully fitting for the environment. Natural fibres, muted colours and restful accents create a perfect setting for the views of the incredible landscape with hundreds of old gum trees standing there like living sculptures.  The villas interiors are luxurious but not over the top and feature raw, natural materials which blend in with the more ‘designer’ elements. Privacy is paramount which is why, three of the four villas also has its own private swimming pool. The villas have their own old school record player along with a selection of vinyl, iPods with songs already loaded on it, king size beds have linen sheets, bathtubs and wireless internet (for online-junkies) so there’s nothing else to do but slide from day bed to pool and back again in a haze of sedation, facilitated by attentive staff who materialise at your every whim.

Sabina Marie On Soundcloud.

SabinaPromo1

Since the release of her first international single ‘One Night’, miss Sabina Marie has been on quite a roll.  The German singer has been racking up numerous collaborations with artists from Mexico to as far as Africa, and shows no signs of stopping.  Her most recent release is a track titled ‘My Love’, produced by ID Beatz, has already gotten radio play in Australia, and hasn’t even hit the streaming/download market yet.  Check it out below.

And for some more of the work she’s been doing, make sure to keep up with her on Soundcloud.

Here Comes The Full ‘Spectre’ Trailer.

daniel-craig_3138898b-1

Since early last year (2014) I’ve been “helping out” with some sound design aspects of Spectre, and since the original teaser trailer 2 months ago, I’ve loved seeing more compiled secenes of the film in action.  Earlier today the full trailer was released, and it is amazing.  There is a seeming return to Bond and Q discussing gadgets, (as well as an odd reference to Bond ‘disappearing’, which may be attributed to the coming departure of Sam Mendez from the franchise).  However, this new trailer finally gives us some action, car chases, Christoph Waltz’s villain, Dave Butista, Daniel Craigh seemingly blowing up a building in Mexico, and Bond undressing Monica Bellucci.  (Something I’ve wanted to do for some time now.)  Check the method below, and go see ‘Spectre’ in November.

The DJ’s From Mars Are Back At It Again.

djs_from_mars_wallpaper_by_gamineoratoune-d5n8q99

Classically known as ones who call out the cheesy commercialism aspects of commercial EDM in a clever way, the DJs From Mars have returned to expand upon their previous skewering of popular sounds in the mainstream in their video “Phat Ass Drop pt 2.” Released this Thursday, two years after the first installment of the video which “instructed” young producers how to make a typical Top 10 Beatport track, Part 2 covers several types of “trends” that have recently taken the scene by storm.

The video begins by instructing aspiring producers to head to Beatport.com and look up the most popular new sound, which they point out as deep house. After quickly throwing in some generic deep house samples into the foundation of the track, the DJs cite articles from blogs (Dancing Astronaut makes an appearance) saying that deep house is dead, so they turn the track into future house to keep up with what’s cool. Not too long after skewering future house, they then target unoriginal tropical house samples and call it “boring.”

DJs_from_Mars

However, the DJs From Mars still haven’t forgotten about big room house as the most copied type of EDM. First, a quick homage is done to Melbourne bounce as the subgenre with light big room overtones that led to popular, yet simple tracks like “Selfie.” But upon instructing producers to view tracklists of the worlds “biggest” DJs like Calvin Harris, David Guetta, Tiesto, and “Chuck Norris,” DJs From Mars eventually conclude that the most surefire way to create a hit is by making a big room track.

And incase you missed it, check out the original.

California’s ‘Oak Pass’ House.

Build a massive house made of concrete in the middle of a grove of 130 beautiful protected old oak trees and you have an ugly disaster in your hands.  This scenario sounds likely but it was elegantly avoided in the Oak Pass Main House that Walker Workshop designed for a private client in Beverly Hills, California.  The house sits on a 3.5-acre site at the rim of a canyon, which is why the fantastic views were the main consideration of the house plan.

Screen Shot 2015-07-16 at 2.59.35 PM Screen Shot 2015-07-16 at 2.59.26 PM

The ornate oak trees provide a contrast for the hard edges of the low-lying house – a delicate balance not easily achieved.  The use of glass allows for views and vistas over and through the house and makes the mass of the house seem much smaller than it is.  Structural concrete is the main building material as it lets large spans of space to flow into each other without columns or supports.  All of this leads to a calm harmony between the site and the elegant minimalist house.

The 8,000 square-foot (743 sq.m.) single-family residence includes four bedrooms on the lower level beneath the green grassy roof, two kitchens, a dining room, a living room, an office, a 900-bottle wine room, an exercise room, a media room, four bathrooms and a powder room, a foyer and an art gallery courtyard plus a garage.  This large residence is on the same property with the much written-about Oak Pass Guest House that Walker Workshop completed in 2013.

PENIS… The P is for Penis. I’ve come across many, many a talented illustrator, but it’s the ones who’s styles transcend the norm that stick out to me.  Once I saw just two illustrations from good ol’ Penis (The illustrator’s name is Keith, but I just want to see how many times I can say penis in this post before we get flagged), but after seeing the juxtaposition between the intricacy and simplicity in Penis’s works of art, I’ve been clamoring for some of his work to call my own.  If you enjoy the illustrations in the post, make sure to Keith’s website right here, and grab some gear of your own.

Creed vs. Southpaw.

michael-b-jordan-creed-trailer-social

Seemingly in the tradition of Captain America taking on Ironman in Civil War, and Batman vs. Superman on the big screen, it seems as if another rivalry may be on the horizon in the hollywood box-office. Creed (above) features Michael B. Jordan as the son of Apollo Creed (from the Rocky Balboa movies.) who is being trained by Sylvester Stallone’s Rocky.  When I heard the premise for the movie, it seemed quite a bit silly, or like Sly Stallone just needed another check.  But after watching the first trailer, my opinion was instantly turned around.  The dark and gritty semi-sequel is focused on the struggles of the young Creed, and honestly seems to be just a genuine attempt at a GOOD boxing movie, as apposed as a way to bring Rocky back to the big screen.  And IN THE BLUE CORNER!!! (sorry, I couldn’t help buy type that). Southpaw was originally intended to star rap icon Eminem, but he backed out in order to focus on the soundtrack.  When Jake Gyllenhaal (who’s name I still cannot spell without the help of Google) took his place after the movie Nightcrawler, people were a bit taken aback.  If you haven’t seen Nightcrawler, Gyllenhaal’s character is a spindly, creepily skinny late night journalist.  But when the first shots of him in Southpaw emerged, he was massive.  I don’t even think Eminem would want to fight Gyllenhaal in that shape.  The film itself features an interesting original story, directed by Antoine Fuqua.  Sound off below as to which boxing flick YOU think will bring home the best for best boxing movie of the year.

The New Future Of Gaming?

carbon_04 carbon_03

This new console concept designed by Peter Difrancesco, titled Carbon, addresses the direct correlation between people playing video games isolated in their bedroom and an increase in the number of people suffering from social anxiety, depression, and other mental illnesses. In essence, it makes it easier for people to “go” to their friends houses to play… without actually having to go anywhere.

carbon_01

It works as a cloud streaming service that allows the controller to be the portal to access your games at home, connect to a screen and interact with friends using physical connections such as heart rate monitors and cameras within the device. Simply bring a controller to your friends house and then connect to any app-capable device, or non-app device using the HDMI dongle. This reduces the number of items you need to bring to play with friends and improves game play over portable gaming devices on the market by working on a streaming based system.

carbon_02

The built in heart rate monitors in the controller provide optional feedback through your friends controller so they can sense your fear, excitement, or anger when they have just beaten you. It also tracks your face whilst playing and then allows you to pop up on their screen with a short message as and when you choose using the camera button on the front of the controller.

DJ Storm’s Interview With Syn 90.7 Melbourne.

Durin the Fair Dinkum tour, I had the extreme pleasure of working with many different press outlets, but the most fun by far was the ‘Get Cereal’ morning show on Syn 90.7 in Melbourne.  From the producer, to all the morning show hosts, I had a blast.  Got to shout out some friends, some venues, and I just wanted to throw up the interview to say thank you to the station for showing me a good time, and letting me take over later on that night by co-hosting 3 Hip Hop shows.  Check the method.

Kate Mara (above), star of the new Fantastic 4 reboot, has proven time and time again that she is much more than a pretty face.  Her acting chops include ‘House of Cards’, Ironman 2, 127 Hours, and Transcendence, among many more.  Her characters are always intelligent, well spoken, and well acted representations of whoever she’s tasked to. However, just because she’s not just a pretty face, doesn’t mean she doesn’t have a pretty face, as the photos above prove.  Emilia Clarke (below), is a british actress that has blown half the world away with her character on the most revered television shows of all time ‘Game of Thrones’.  Her most recent appearance is as Sarah Conor in the Terminator reboot, (and future sequels), which has made her a staple in the minds of fanboys everywhere.  Check out one of her most recent shoots below.

Ciara – ‘Dance Like We’re Making Love’

https://i0.wp.com/static.idolator.com/uploads/2015/07/ciara-dance-like-were-making-love-video-teaser-sunglasses.png

Ciara turns up the heat in the steamy video for her Jackie single “Dance Like We’re Making Love,” which premiered on Sony’s Times Square billboard. The R&B chanteuse reunites with Dave Meyers, who directed her video for “Lose Control” with Missy Elliott. Ciara is fully re-embracing her sex-goddess status. In the new video for Jackie single “Dance Like We’re Making Love,” Ciara does just that, chilling seductively — yes, she can make chilling look seductive — in a pool, dancing around a beautiful mansion with her lover, and slowly shedding her clothes as she makes her way to the bedroom.
