Aston Martin Brings Forth The DB11 And DBX.

Aston Martin is making a few modest changes to its lineup for 2022, which includes the arrival of a brand new online configurator where you can see those updates in action. Revisions to the range include more power for the DB11 V8, new wheel options for the DBS and DBX, and in an effort to streamline its range, Aston Martin is dropping the ‘Superleggera’ and ‘AMR’ nameplates. The DB11 coupe and convertible models equipped with the base V8 welcome the biggest changes. The twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter engine now produces 528 horsepower (394 kilowatts), which yields a new-and-improved top speed of 192 miles per hour (308 kilometers per hour). That’s an increase of 25 ponies over last year’s model. And now buyers can option the DB11 V8 with Sports Plus Seats to help cope with all that extra speed.

The DB11 V12 Coupe sticks around with the same 630 hp (470 kW), but it loses its AMR nameplate. The DBS suffers the same fate, dropping the Superleggera badge from its hood but maintaining its twin-turbocharged 5.2-liter V12, still good for 715 hp (533 kW) and a top speed of 211 mph (340 kmh). Ditching the AMR and Superleggera badges, Aston Martin says, helps simplify the lineup. Visual updates include new 21-inch wheel designs for the DBS, and a fresh set of 23-inch wheel options for the DBX SUV. With the new configurator, buyers can also select from three preset interior “environments,” each one with colors, materials, and patterns carefully curated by the Aston Martin Design team.

The undeniably exotic 2022 Aston Martin DB11 toes the line between sports car and grand tourer. Its long, low, and wide body turns heads whether configured with the fixed roof or the retractable soft top. Aston offers this rear-drive-only looker with a mighty 630-hp twin-turbo V-12, but it comes only in the coupe variant, adds a significant surcharge, and can overwhelm the rear tires. The standard 528-hp twin-turbo V-8 isn’t as special, but it’s still supremely satisfying. Paired with an eight-speed automatic, both engines provide stirring soundtracks and rousing acceleration that can take this car from relaxed to rowdy in a thrice. And despite some interior miscues and miniscule rear seats, the DB11 has a comfortable and highly customizable cabin.

The world was ready for an Aston Martin SUV. Yes, by the time the Aston Martin DBX debuted Bentley had given birth to the Bentayga, Lamborghini had sired the Urus and even Rolls Royce had realised its Cullinan.  Still, the arrival of another ‘super SUV’ is always a bit exciting. Would it be a true Aston Martin, how would it compare to its rivals and is it even a good SUV?  Well, that’s what I wanted to know about Aston Martin’s DBX anyway, and I found out, along with everything else you should know: from its performance to practicality in this review.

I’m not one to name drop but I was having a chin wag with Marek, that’s Marek Reichman, Aston Martin’s Vice President and Chief Creative Officer, the fellow who has designed every Aston from the past 15 years, that Marek. Anyway, before the DBX came out he told me any SUV he designed would be unmistakably an Aston Martin. We think he nailed it. The gaping Aston Martin grille is unmistakably the same as the DB11’s and the tailgate, which although is the back hatch to a large SUV, is absolutely the same as the rear end of the Vantage. Everything in between has all the family hallmarks. There are those oval headlights and the huge beak of a bonnet, the chiselled side panels with wheel arches that push up towards the sky and those rear haunches.

The DBX is a circa 550 horsepower giant that can reach out and almost touch 300km/h. But testing it on Sydney’s roads is like having a champion racehorse in your backyard and your neighbour asking you what it’s like to ride.  A racetrack wasn’t handy at the time and I’d signed a form saying I’d not put any more than 400km on the clock during its stay with me, which meant having to choose my test loop carefully.  Fortunately, this was before Sydney was plunged into the current COVID lockdown, which makes that 400km now seem vast.

The Roland 909 DJ Gear.

232553_g3

Roland is to start manufacturing vinyl DJ gear with two new products: the TT-99 turntable and DJ-99 mixer.  Both products have been designed to look like the classic TR-909, with the same grey and orange livery. The reveal follows the announcement of Roland’s revival of the drum machine in compact form, the TR-09.   Apart from the TT-99 looking a lot like a classic Technics SL-1200 with a fancy paint job, there’s not much to distinguish it from other turntables on the market. However, it does have an affordable price point of $349, which puts it on a par with Pioneer DJ’s most recent offering.

roland-909-day-770

Similarly, the DJ-99 is just a simple two-channel mixer, though it is reasonably priced at £249. Apart from a dedicated DVS output for digital DJs, it’s as basic as they come. A release date for both is yet to be confirmed.  The 909-themed gear isn’t the only DJ equipment launched by Roland as part of its 909 Day celebration. The company has also teamed up with Serato on the DJ-808, a combination of DJ controller and drum machine.

Take A Good Look At The Pioneer DJ DDJ-RR.

DDJ-RR_PC_setcut_high

Pioneer is expanding their range of rekordbox dj controllers with the DDJ-RR and DDJ-RB. Both feature two channels while the DDJ-RR includes Deck Select so you can switch between all four rekordbox dj decks at the touch of a button. The controllers introduce buttons for new features in the rekordbox 4.1.1 software update, including Sequence Call, which lets you create and save sample sequences then play them back without touching your computer. The DDJ-RB and DDJ-RR are also the first controllers to support PC Master Out, for playing master output through your computer’s internal speakers or a connected desktop speaker while using the controller for your headphones at the same time. Both new controllers come bundled with a full licence for rekordbox dj performance software.

The DDJ-RR packs in all the traits of a pro-DJ set-up. Stay in control with large jog wheels, illuminating on-jog indicators and customisable multicoloured Performance Pads. You can use the Performance Pads to trigger Hot Cues, Beat Jump, Pad FX and Slicer, plus there’s a button for the new Sequence Call feature. Get creative with Slip Mode and Release FX, and hit the new Sequence Load button to load your sample sequences to the deck to scratch them. Multiple inputs and outputs give you flexible connectivity and the option to use the DDJ-RR with rekordbox dj software or as a 2-channel mixer using multiplayers or turntables.

What Is 4D Sound?

maxresdefault-4

ViviTouch 4D Sound was developed with EAP (Electroactive Polymers). Pioneered by Bayer, EAP is an incredibly thin and flexible film that can be used as a flexible capacitor. The proprietary dielectric polymer expands when exposed to an electrical current and contracts when electricity is discharged. Stretchable electrodes are printed on either sides of the EAP film. Furthermore, by printing a specific frame pattern, a developed planer actuator acts as a new type of electrical motor converting electrical energy directly into mechanical motion.

354f2d1fb472f8e282dbac8aca1345da

The printed film is designed into an overthe‐ear headphone, these polymer motors move the skin around the user’s ears and generates a very realistic subwoofer experience similar to what one would normally feel only in a concert hall or movie theatre. The electro-active polymer has 10x faster response time and covers a broad frequency range. 4D Sound can generate thousands of unique sensations and enables a full spectrum of sensory sound.

The news about Toyota and BMW building cars together isn’t new, as the two companies finalized the partnership in January of 2013, but thanks to the Nikkei Asian Review, we’ve got some rumors as to what the two companies have been working on. Those plans revolve around the next-generation BMW Z4 and a revival of the famed Toyota Supra… aka the Toyota FT1.

Check The E-Chopper…

ono_2 ono_1

The first in bicycle maker Ono’s collection of outrageously stylish e-bikes is the wild-looking Archont. The design is a three meter long easy rider, conceived with the sole purpose of providing an exhilarating experience and unparalleled riding pleasure. It’s a chopper-style super e-bike. Just as quick as it looks, it features face-lifting acceleration thanks to a 7kW motor powered by a 72V 20Ah lithium ferro-phosphate or 74V 23Ah lithium-ion unit. First and foremost though, the sleek design was developed to turn heads with its unconventional lean body, curved lines and carefully worked proportions.

ono_3 ono_6

In terms of its electric drive, Archont electro comes with a 7 kW motor (more and less powerful units are available), a 4 speed plus reverse manual “gearbox”, and Schlumpf transmission, which allows pedal action even when hurtling for the top speed of 50 mph (80 km/h). Mostly though, should you ever afford it, you’ll want to drive it on right-handlebar throttle that will unleash jaw dropping acceleration. Features such as cruise control (tempomat) and a speed limit are also included. Archont electro is powered by a 72V 20Ah lithium ferro-phosphate or 74V 23Ah lithium-ion unit, stored inside a locked carbon fiber casing (metal and polyester are also an option). Ono Bikes Company estimates that the battery can provide range of up to 60 miles (100 km) without pedaling. The battery charges in about three hours when plugged in, and a regenerative braking system adds some charging while in motion.

Aetho wants to bring stabilizers to consumers everywhere with the ‘Aeon’. Traditional very large stabilizers used by video professionals, the ‘aeon’ is a handheld tool that is ergonomic and lightweight for creating smooth, cinematic videos.

To keep it stable, the gadget uses sensors to detect the three axes and makes adjustments 1,000 times per second. With every counter movement, the ‘aeon’ employs three brushless motors to move the camera. To view the footage, the ‘aeon’ includes a two-inch circular screen so videographers can see the ‘GoPro’s’ perspective. Weighing only 500 grams, the stabilizer is made from injection molded ABS plastic and features a five-hour battery that can be charged using a USB cable.  To frame more interesting footage, the aetho ‘aeon’ has a universal mount that works with all official ‘GoPro’ accessories. The video stabilizer is available for purchase on their indiegogo page, with a plan to ship to buyers in early 2016.

“The Entourage” Cadillac.

Cadillac-Ciel-concept-Entourage-trailer-1024x576

Since getting my first look at the Entourage movie a few weeks ago (a review of which you can find right here), I’ve been asked consistently about the Cadillac in the film’s trailer.  The Cadillac Ciel, started out as a concept in 2011, but still screams ‘car of the future’.  Check out some more about this amazing vehicle.

cadillac-ciel-concept2Ciel (the French word for sky) is what inspired this noteworthy vehicle.  Driving California’s Highway 1 in an open car while the sun sets is the type of journey the Ciel team envisioned during its design. The Ciel’s doors are hinged at the rear to reveal a sweeping view of the dramatic interior, accented with nickel-plated trim, exquisite Italian Olive wood and soft leather. Cadillac’s heritage of advanced technology is evident everywhere you look, beginning with the Ciel’s bold LED headlamps and tail lights.

Cadillac-Ciel-Concept-Wallpaper-i01-1024

Simplicity, authenticity and spaciousness were the guiding principles when it came to developing the interior. Seats wrapped in glove-soft leather feature sloping bolsters that allow passengers to slide into them more comfortably. But perhaps the defining element is the incorporation of Italian Olive wood trim throughout. This special wood is a premium yet sustainable material, and in the Ciel came from a single, fallen tree, painstakingly prepared and specially cut.

Transparent gauges are framed within a brushed-aluminum housing that has the intricate depth of a high-quality chronograph. A “floating” center console that runs from the front to the back features hidden connectivity portals for each passenger, allowing each to make dinner reservations, check the weather, or even upload photos of the journey via social media. Additional technology includes inductive charging and Bluetooth connectivity. The final touches? Heated and cooled seats, a drawer containing sun lotion, sun glasses and towels, and aromatherapy that is controlled from the rear armrest.

A Look At The PLX-1000’s.

PEE_PLX-1000_HERO_BLK

We’ve been paying close attention to the story of Pioneer’s new vinyl turntable that originally got leaked by QBert right after the NAMM convention in January, and today the details have dropped. The new PLX-1000 is a direct drive analog turntable that’s very similar in design to the Technics 1200s and many of the other super OEM models that have come after it. There’s a standard layout, long pitch fader with a range of tempo adjustments from ±8% and ±16% to ±50% and a reset switch, and a lighted speed guide on the platter.  A lot of DJs have speculated over the need and presence for additional I/O options besides the traditional RCA and power – and it looks like many might be disappointed as Pioneer has kept it completely analog in the unit, with just a single pair of phono outs, a ground cable attachment point, a Kensington lock slot, and a power supply. The lack of digital interface is something that we’ve heard from Pioneer is very much an intention to keep the sound quality very pure and analog – but we’re left wondering why easy connection for timecode users to a Pioneer certified mixer like the DJM-900 Nexus or SRT didn’t seem like the better play for the market.

Ferrari Reveals Its 458 Speciale A.

ferrari-458-speciale-a-front

The convertible version of Ferrari’s hardcore 458 Speciale has been revealed, and it’s called the 458 Speciale A (A as in Aperta).  The car will be the most powerful road-going Spider in its illustrious history and will be getting the same engine as the hardtop Speciale.  So that means a naturally aspirated 4.5-liter V8 with 597bhp spinning the rear wheels via a seven-speed twin-clutch semi-automatic gearbox.  That means a 0-100km/h time of 3 seconds, a 0-200km/h time of 9.5 seconds and a top speed that will be north of 200mph (321km/h). And all without a turbo or supercharger helping out.

Its folding metal roof can be dropped almost as quickly (14 sec) and is unique to this model. The standard 458 Italia Spider has a fabric soft top.  However one thing the standard convertible boasts that this doesn’t is an exposed engine bay. This car’s rear has been redesigned to accommodate the folding aluminum mechanism but it still looks just as dramatic.  Inside the cabin will get exclusive carbon fiber trim and other details to mark it out from other 458 cars, and there will also be a prominently placed plaque that lists the number of awards that the 458′s engine has scooped during its lifetime.  Just 499 examples of the limited-edition Ferrari will be produced.  The Speciale A will be in France to kick off the Paris Motor Show, which commences October 4th.

Black Beauty.

black_hole_watch_concept4

Tourbillon is one of the most basic complications that you look for in a watch, the grounding factor and the most poetic one. It is essential in keeping the negative effects of gravity on the accuracy of time telling, away. What we have here is the Tourbillon Black Hole Concept Watch, which is inspired by our universe and especially by the black holes.

black_hole_watch_concept3

  • The three rings (hours and minutes) are designed like a vortex and the tourbillon escapement represent a nebula that is going to be inhaled.
  • You can see a transparent disk with white points (stars): this is the disk of the seconds and it moves at the speed of 360 degrees / minutes.
  • The moving tourbillon and this stars disk plus the rotating rings will create a beautiful black hole effect.

black_hole_watch_concept

The movement is mechanical and hand-wound with the power spring placed on the left side of the watch. All of this is visible thanks to a second sapphire glass. The time is indicated by the blue arrow and we can see that presently it shows 3h 18min.

The Lamborghini Veneno

Lamborghini-Veneno-1 Lamborghini-Veneno-4

The Lamborghini Veneno features a twelve-cylinder power unit with a displacement of 6.5 liters, an extremely fast-shifting 7-speed ISR transmission with 5 driving modes and permanent all-wheel drive, as well as a racing chassis with pushrod suspension and horizontal spring/damper units. Above all, however, the Veneno benefits from the very special expertise that Automobili Lamborghini possesses in the development and execution of carbon-fiber materials – the complete chassis is produced as a CFRP monocoque, as is the outer skin of this extreme sports car. The inside, too, features innovative, Lamborghini-patented materials such as Forged Composite and CarbonSkin.

The Dreamiest Corvette Of Them All.

Corvette-Z06-Stingray-600x400 Chevrolet-Corvette-Z06-interior-600x342

GM’s flagship supercar, the first headline unveiling of this year’s Detroit Motor show, potentially has enough in the tank to challenge anything from Ferrari or Lamborghini.  The Z06 may look a lot like the standard Stingray, which itself was officially unveiled at the 2013 event, but it is extremely different where it counts most, under the hood.  The extra power is thanks to a lightweight but potent supercharger that forces the car’s 6.2-liter V8 to pump out over 625hp. Making sure that the car doesn’t disintegrate under that extra performance are aluminum cylinder heads and titanium intake valves. Chevrolet has even taken a leaf out of its European competitors’ books and reexamined the engine’s weight, rods and pistons.

Corvette-Z06-600x400Making sure that power doesn’t disappear in an automatic gearbox’s torque converter, the Z06 will be coming with a seven-speed manual transmission as standard. However, for those that like the full track-day effect, an eight-speed paddle shift unit will also be an optional extra.  But maybe the best thing is that because the new car is so rigid, the roof panel can still be removed for open air motoring without turning the car into the automotive equivalent of jelly. However, Chevrolet points out that there will still be a slight difference in handling when the panel is out.  Potential owners will be happy to hear that the extra rigidity and performance has been paired with bigger brakes and with Chevrolet’s Magnetic Selective Ride Control dampers (an option on the standard Stingray) which will be fitted as standard on the Z06 when it appears in dealerships in 2015.

The Ferrari 750 Monza Spider.

IW-Ferrari-750-Monza-Scaglietti-1955-22

The Ferrari 750 Monza Spider is one of the wonders created by an artist who according to legend was able, in just a few minutes, to turn a sheet of aluminum into a perfectly smooth egg.  Modena-born Sergio Scaglietti (1920-2011) – who in his youth had repaired countless car bumpers working as a tinsmith – used his hammer with the lightness and precision of a surgeon with a scalpel.  In 1939, Enzo Ferrari – the founder of the world-renowned automobile company in Maranello – met Scaglietti and was immediately struck by his talent. A long collaboration and friendship began, with the artist-tinsmith creating some of Ferrari’s most beautiful cars throughout the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s (including the iconic “Testa Rossa”).  The 750 Monza was designed by Dino Ferrari; only thirty-one were made, between 1954 and 1955.  The model was one of the works of art forged by a genius.  Check the method.

2014-Lamborghini-Veneno-Roadster-Rear-Side-Top

The 2014 Lamborghini Veneno Roadster is one of the most exclusive cars in the world, with a production run of just nine units and a price tag of $4.5 million.  Lamborghini says the Veneno Roadster has no roof — not even a fabric top.  “There is no roof, just a strong rollover bar for optimum safety,” said Lamborghini in a statement. “The design is focused on optimum aerodynamics and stability through fast corners — with handling akin to that of a racing prototype.”  It is “fully road legal,” said the Italian automaker.  The Lamborghini Veneno Roadster is based on the Lamborghini Aventador Roadster, but it’s about ten times more expensive. The 2013 Lamborghini Aventador LP700 Roadster starts at $444,595, including a $2,995 destination charge.  The Lamborghini Veneno debuted at the 2013 Geneva Auto Show in celebration of the brand’s 50th anniversary.

Conceived as a tribute to the 50th Anniversary of Automobili Lamborghini – the ‘ Lamborghini Veneno’ – presented at the 2013 Geneva International Motor Show – is a unique limited edition model, which will only see three produced worldwide.  Featuring a 6.5 liter 750 horsepower V12 engine, the fighting bull can launch from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.8 seconds when coupled with its 7-speed ISR Racing Transmission – achieving a top speed of 355 km/h.  Weighing just under 1,450 kgs – 125 kilograms lighter than the Aventador – the new development extensively utilizes carbon-fiber materials, with the complete chassis produced as a CFRP monocoque, as with the exterior.  Laid out for perfect airflow and downforce, the front end works as a large aerodynamic wing: large channels guide the air to the outlets in the hood and windshield, as well as to the front wheels. Angular Y-shaped headlamps reach well into the fenders as well as the scissor doors.

Usain Bolt’s Golden Nissan GT-R Is Off The Market.

usain-bolt-13828-800x600

A special one-off ‘Bolt Gold’ edition of Nissan’s flagship supercar has fetched nearly double the list price at auction.  The car, complete with unique gold paint job and Usain Bolt interior gold plaque bearing the 100 meters star’s autograph, was the star lot of an auction that also included items of Usain Bolt merchandise such as racing helmets, special driving suits and boots, all of which helped to nudge the overall total up to $193,191.  The auction, in aid of the six-time gold medal winner’s charitable organization — The Usain Bolt Foundation — saw fierce competition from bidders around the globe when it was launched on eBay Motors on November 22.  As well as being one of the fastest and best-handling cars currently available, the Nissan GT-R is also one of the most technologically advanced vehicles on the road.

Each engine is built in a hermetically sealed chamber that enables ultra-high precision and ultra-low tolerance manufacturing techniques more common in Formula 1 and the aviation industry.  Commenting on the money raised by the auction, Usain Bolt said:”My partnership with Nissan greatly benefits the work of my Foundation. This donation will help many kids get access to better facilities, play areas and educational materials in Jamaica.”  The Olympic star has been working with Nissan since October 2012 when he was appointed the Japanese carmaker’s honorary “Director of Excitement” and is a brand spokesman for the company’s “What if _” global brand campaign.

The Ford EVOS.

The EVOS concept car introduces a new design direction for the global car manufacturer ford.  Debuting at the 2011 frankfurt motor show, the vehicle is an interpretation of a fastback bodystyle design, featuring four gull-wing doors which open to reveal a four-seat layout.  The concept offers a bold red driver’s seat and the vision of unprecedented driver interface.  The two rear seat passengers host dedicated touch-screen displays to interact with the vehicle and individually adjustable sports seats.  The concept’s technology experience embraces a new generation of driver interaction and awareness, in which the seamless connectivity between the vehicle and the driver’s ‘personal cloud’ of information is the heart of the vision for its capabilities.

With information from the cloud, the vehicle is able to provide the same connected lifestyle the driver experiences at home or the office.  The car knows the driver, automatically adapting its handling, steering and engine control to deliver a dynamic driving experience.  Drawing from a detailed understanding of the driver’s preferences and habits, the EVOS concept car combines this personal information with additional data from the could, such as the individual’s work schedule and local traffic or weather conditions. This information provides a personalized and seamless  sophistication as the driver transitions in and out of the car.

The RIN Chair.

The Japanese word RIN means an appearance that is stunning, elegant and courageous. The idea is to create a new type of chair that is in harmony with Japanese and Danish design traditions.  Designed by Hiromichi Konno, if nothing else, this chair has one of the best photographers I’ve ever seen.

Hiromichi Konno says:

“I wanted to make a beautiful chair that can stimulate and awaken emotions in people. It must be able to appeal visually but also make us feel a form of elegance when we sit in it. Therefore, I have established something poetical, simple, strong, relaxed and innovative all at the same time. The goal from the beginning was to create the perfect chair”
