Artists tend to have certain catalysts that spur them into doing good work at a hyper accelerated pace.  My good friend and fellow DJ, Jeff Phantom tend to be a catalyst for each other.  Phantom, being on tour, passed through the Bay, and we already have a multitude of projects to give out to the public.  The first of which is an edit of “Stranger” originally produced by Skrillex.  Take a listen below, and click the pic above for a free download.

Forbes Highest Paid Electronic DJs of 2013

dj-turntables

Esteemed business magazine and infamous list makers Forbes have put together the 13 highest paid electronic music DJs of 2013, estimating their earning from live shows, endorsements, merchandise sales, recorded music sales, and external business ventures. While last year saw Tiesto top the list, bagging $22 million USD, this year sees Scottish producer Calvin Harris more than doubling that figure and netting a total of $46 million thanks to over 100 live shows at places like the Las Vegas megaclub Hakkasan (for which he received up to $200,000 per night). He also receives revenue from his songwriting work for megastars like Rihanna, meaning he ends up taking home even more money than the likes of Jay-Z and Katy Perry. How did he do it? “The rise of dance music has been astronomical in the last three years,” he tells Forbes. “I happened to be in the right place at the right time.”

After their breakup, Skrillex and Ellie Goulding both declared that they remained good friends and wish to collaborate in the future. To show that they are serious, Skrillex unveiled the clip for their first collaboration “Sumit”, when they both met and started their short romance.

Skrillex And The Doors – Breakn’ A Sweat

“Breakn’ a Sweat” is a song by American electronic music producer Skrillex. It is the third track on his fourth EP, Bangarang. It features guest vocal and musical contributions from the American rock band The Doors. It was created for the 2012 documentary film Re:Generation. Musically, “Breakn’ a Sweat” has heavy influences of dubstep, electro house and progressive house. It contains a vocal sample from a 1960s interview with Jim Morrison, while the remaining members of The Doors and Skrillex did the chants. The song received generally positive reviews from music critics, with some highlighting it as the standout track from the EP.

Mike Tompkins A Capella Dubstep.

Now this is not the first time we’ve seen an attempt at covering dubstep through the medium of a cappella. But, seriously, wow.  This truly impressive double cover of Skrillex’s remix of “Cinema” and Santigold’s “Disparate Youth” was performed by one Mike Tompkins, who uses nothing but his voice to create the unique rendition and who has earned a major triple-rainbow salute of excellence from The Feed.
