Production has begun on Italian boat company jet capsule‘s latest invention, a private 5 person and nine person taxi version. After the initial concept presentation five years ago, the unusual form was finally unveiled at the 2013 monaco show, where the design team sought to create a floating transportation device that was different from all others on the market. The innovation, which is 7,5 meters long and 3,5 meters wide is a fully customizable product that allows several configurations, including one with transformable sofas, a boat taxi with large seats and a luxury version with integrated comfort features. Several other versions are currently under development for ambulance and emergency purposes. The current capsule model has a built-in hydro-jet system that can be equipped with one or two engines, but the team are also working on the first electrically powered design to be presented in june 2014. All the jets come with an international sail certification and can navigate and operate in any country/region, and waves of up to 4 meters.

Iconic Italian fashion designer Giorgio Armani has created his first ever line of Swiss-made watches, which were unveiled Sunday in Milan during the city’s men’s fashion week. Presented at the Teatro Armani in Milan (a former Nestlé factory converted into a performance space by the fashion brand), the watches are Armani’s first ever Swiss-made timepieces. The designer treated a select group of attendees to a preview of the full collection. A few key stages in the manufacturing process were undertaken with a group of craftsmen showing off the handiwork that goes into the timepieces, which are designed to mix innovation and tradition.

Greek Cypriot industrialist and art collector Dakis Joannou who green-lighted American artist Jeff Koons and Italian yacht designer Ivana Porfiri to create for him this mega yacht, ’Guilty.’ The stunning looks and amenities of this 115-feet long ship, inspired by the naval camouflage used by Britain during World War I, Guilty’s yellow rhombuses, pink triangles and blue polygons become even more amazing when reflected off the water. Onboard there are 180-degree views of the envious and awestruck rest of the world, along with plenty of bedrooms filled with museum-worthy works of art.

Vertu Ti Ferrari Smartphone

Vertu-Ti-Ferrari-smartphone

Vertu has expanded its Ti line with a luxury smartphone whose design was inspired by the Ferrari F12 berlinetta. A limited edition of 2,013 smartphones will be produced and sold. The new Vertu Ti Ferrari is the result of a close collaboration between the luxury phone maker and the luxury sports car brand. Ferrari has supplied some of the red and black leather used in the seats of its sports cars for the leather accents along the smartphone’s casing. Vertu, in turn, has treated and conditioned the leather to ensure it will withstand the constant handling a smartphone is subject to. The smartphone’s casing is made of diamond-like carbon (DLC), a lightweight material ten times stronger than stainless steel, which Ferrari uses to protect its motors from extreme heat and friction. The back of the device is modeled after the aerodynamic lines of the F12 berlinetta, while the position of the supercar’s headlights is echoed in the position of the phone’s camera. The Vertu Ti Ferrari’s feature set is not particularly impressive. Equipped with a 3.7-inch screen, an 8MP photo camera at the back and a 1.3MP front camera for video chats, the smartphone runs under Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) and is equipped with Bluetooth, wifi and 3G+ connectivity. The start screen of the Vertu Ti Ferrari features the signature colors of the famous Italian car maker, and the Vertu for Ferrari App provides access to the latest Ferrari news from the brand’s social network pages and the automotive trade press. The on-screen clock is modeled after the F12 berlinetta’s tachometer, and the four available ringtones purr with the sound of the grand tourer’s V12 engine.

lancia_74_stratos_02

The Italian classic Lancia Stratos is not only considered as one of the most iconic cars in WRC history, but as the first car ever to be designed purely for rally race performance. Claiming three consecutive champion titles in 1974, 1975 and 1976, the Stratos is still considered one of the most challenging, epic, and intriguing driving experiences today. Petrolicious chatted with Phillip Toledano about his experiences driving the iconic race model and discuses its “disastrous noises”, “intrusive” nature, and the intriguing “terror” felt while behind the wheel.

Fedrigoni are a well established, Italian paper company who have refined the art and science of making fine quality special papers. The challenge was to create a campaign which will ensure the entire UK design industry hears about the paper selection tool, consisting of 262 various paper samples which enables designers to choose the best shade and most suitable surface for their very next project. The final design was focused on quality Italian products and pride in appearance. Italian fashion houses supply the highest quality goods in the market, working with the finest materials, his aim was to capture this very same message for the Fedrigoni paper range.

The designer chose to create dinner jackets because not only do they portray a strong image of quality, but just as importantly, classic, traditional design. He developed four templates, one for each element of the outfit, shirt, waistcoat, jacket and bow tie. Once each element is made they simply slot together, allowing you to make your own, and experiment with the different paper qualities and colour combination until you are happy with the outcome. Fedrigoni claim that their papers are ultra functional yet wonderfully expressive, this inspired him to produce a wide range of styles, from simple, subtle colours and patterns to much more elaborate combinations. The book would be sent to Fedrigoni’s existing customers, of which a large majority are top fashion labels, promoting the new color tool.

Italy Launches Ferrari Style High-Speed Train.

Italy’s first private high-speed train, launched by Ferrari head Luca di Montezemolo’s company NTV and boasting sleek interiors and a cinema carriage, made its inaugural journey on Friday.  The dark-red 200-meter (656 foot) bullet-shaped train — named “Italo” — set out from Rome’s Termini station, taking just over an hour to reach Naples.  “Italo has arrived, the competition has kicked off… bringing real advantages to all those who travel,” NTV told its first passengers as they admired interiors styled by celebrated design house Italdesign Giugiaro.  The trains have gold edging, panoramic windows, leather seats and wider carriages than the classic French TGV trains. They offer three different coach classes and travel at a top speed of 360 kilometers (224 miles) per hour.

France’s national rail company SNCF owns a 20-percent stake in NTV, which is led by a group of Italian businessmen including Montezemolo, NTV’s president, and Diego Della Valle, the head of luxury shoemaker Tod’s.  The company hopes to take a bite out of the national state rail network’s market and gain an advantage with a pricing system where passengers can get cut-price tickets by booking early or traveling at off-peak times.  “All our employees speak English as well as Italian, and each station we transit through will have an ‘Italo House’ for passengers wanting information or a rest,” Giuseppe Bonollo, NTV commercial director, told AFP.

2012 Light Festival – Ghent, Belgium.

Just like fireworks, originally used in celebrations to reach up to and greet the spirits in the sky, this LED-light cathedral aimed very, very high.  We’re not sure if it was visible from space (or higher) but it certainly glowed brightly.  More than half-a-million people were drawn to the Luminaire De Cagna LED-light display at the 2012 Light Festival in Ghent, Belgium. Luminaire De Cagna became the main attraction of the Festival that included more than 30 other displays and exhibitions.  Constructed of wood, covered with 55,000 LED lights and reaching 28 meters (92 ft.) into the sky above Belfortstraat, the Romanesque cathedral-like Luminaire De Cagna used only 20 kWh of energy.  Luminaire De Cagna is an Italian family business that has created light displays since 1930. They started with oil and carbine lights, moved on to electric and, since 2006, have used LED-lights exclusively.

‘It Came From The Sky’ – The Embroidered Secrets of Maurizio Anzeri (Pt. 2)

In the post “The Emboridered Secrets of Maurizio Anzeri (Pt. 1)” I displayed some of the incredible works from Italian artist Maurizio Anzeri.  The works in the last post carried a primarily vintage style, these however, take his talents into the modern realms.  Shifting from his previous project to his current practice, Maurizio says that he is interested in everything a photograph represents. When travelling, he visits flea markets and collects photographs that are later transformed into pieces of art. His portraits maintain the quality of a photograph but then start to become three-dimensional something that prompted him to invent the term: ”photo-sculpture”. It is this three-dimensional element, achieved through embroidery and the form of intervention it brings that transforms the portraits into photo-sculptures.  Maurizio’s career is booming and growing and there is no stopping.  In Baltic, he is going to present 25 small portraits from the past, another 12 new pieces of embroidery and four sculptures. He was fortunate to work with great minds likeAlexander McQueen and Isabella Blow and confesses that he stayed in London because of the people he met.  He was picked up by Charles Saatchi, and exhibited at his gallery in the exhibition Newspeak: British Art Now, an exhibition that received great coverage and media attention.  Check out ‘It Came From The Sky’.

The Embroidered Secrets of Maurizio Anzeri. (Pt. 1)

Maurizio Anzeri, the Italian born artist from the city of Loano is known for his series of eerie portraits or photo-sculptures, (a term used by himself to describe his portraits)  Maurizio’s work will be presented this month at the Baltic  (25 June – 11 October 2011) and will mark his first solo show in a major UK institution. Check out this first gallery of his work.  I’ll be posting up a second later on today.

The Vizio Ashtray.

Designed by Italian studio Flussocreativo, ‘Vizio’ is a candle ashtray that consists of a paraffin wax body, with the wick positioned along the perimeter of the object within the central indentation.  Once started, the light takes a circular route, following the inner circumference of the candle in order to dissolve the paraffin and give the look of one who kidnapped by the enchantment of fire, stopped to observe its movement.  During its hypnotic and suggestive run, the wick melts the wax forming a liquid pool able to hold ashes, foul odor and of course the butts.  ‘Vizio’ becomes an opportunity to enjoy the habit of a cigarette together, surrounded by a warm and friendly feel.  We all agree, smoking is a habit that is harmful to the health, but for those who want the old pleasure of a cigarette, especially together, if you need a moment of relaxation and reflection, ‘vizio’ would be a useful tool.

The ‘New’ House Pool.

Italian company Kos presented new concept of in-house pool named Faraway Pool.  Guaranteed to add a unique, inviting touch to any home, the Faraway Pool can be built in to the floor.  The pool is always in level with the floor and the water doesn’t overflow, thanks to the ground-level fissure that doubles the pool’s outline.  To top that, the Faraway Pool features underwater illumination, which will make for a truly romantic experience.  Added to its beauty is the blower placed under the steps that allows the water surface to ripple beautifully over the entire pool.  An object of great emotional impact, for infinitely pleasurable moments. Pricing is available on request from the company.

Italian Space Saving Furniture.

An example of space saving furniture.

The Italians are known for many things, their food, the beauty of their country, and their women, are among a few, but I never really thought about their furniture until I saw the video below.  It documents some ridiculous futuristic ideas concerning space saving furniture, watch the video and attempt to tell yourself it’s not dope.
