Casa en Tres Ríos César Béjar.

I don’t know what it means, but this house’s look is spectacular. The constant of the patios and the exteriors intensifies when their qualities fall on the texture, the color and the vegetation. Its interiors devoid of color and texture play the role of blank canvases. The atmosphere of the house comes from the colors. Between the pink of the patios that bounces and enters the house, and that of the direct overhead yellow light that combines with pink and averages the tones on these neutral surfaces. Giving as a result, a soft warm atmosphere, changing depending on the natural light and the passing of the day. These tones are modulated by small blue windows that intensify the color variants and complement the warm tones.

Dracula’s Castle Up For Sale

Now picture this, the Craigslist ad for Bran Castle, commonly known as Dracula’s Castle, which is now up for sale. It can’t be an easy one to write, but it’d be fun to read:

“New listing: 8 Bed/4 Bath castle near Transylvania… Built in the 13th century, but renovated in the early 90s… plenty of space… lots of old world charm… previous owner Prince Vlad III of Wallachia, aka Vlad The Impaler, was known for excessive cruelty, but the stench of 80,000 impaled souls is long gone now due to a newly remodeled kitchen and lanai… great play room for kids… asking $80 million or next best offer.” While we’re not exactly sure of those room details, that asking price is actually legit.

Views of the Pacific abound, as the home’s interiors include wooden beams, large glass windows that radiate a sophisticated kind of laid back chill that only $12 million can buy. Maybe it’s the open floor living plan? Maybe it’s the fact that you can fling your table scraps into the ocean? Either way, the view is worth it alone.

This 500-sq.-meter (about 5,382 square feet) head-turner was built on a hill, so there’s plenty of natural ventilation, and with the dining room cascading into the pool area.  This region of Colombia is known for its warm weather and abundant bamboo. The French windows are designed to generate a nice mix of indoor/outdoor air flow, and the white-on-white color scheme is meant to showcase the natural green and artworks on the property.

Solar access to the front and a busy road to the rear drove the creation of a central courtyard with two story alfresco and mezzanine walkway which formed the focal point of the home. The mixture of timber and stone complement the metal work and concrete giving the home a warm industrial interior design edge. The free form living area features a central polished plaster ethanol fireplace and is adjacent to the state of the art kitchen with a concealed cool room and pantry. The remainder of the ground floor is comprised of a library, powder room, laundry and a separate master wing with dressing room, ensuite and private courtyard. Designed for multi-generational living, the upper floor has a separate living room and balcony which overlooks the stairwell and courtyard beyond. Abandoned Underwater Strip Club In Israel

Photos of abandoned buildings have always be fascinating, but of all the deserted spaces we’ve seen in the past, nothing has measured up to the awesomeness of this abandoned underwater strip club. Many times when buildings are left to decay, they do just that. The Nymphas Show Bar is a different story entirely though. While the outside of the building is quite rusted, photographs of the inside show that the former strip club is still completely intact. The photos were taken by marine biologist Gil Koplovitzin in Eilat, Israel. The structure once served as an underwater restaurant before transforming into a strip club, and ultimately ending in this.

Throughout the day, guests of the resort can remain encapsulated in the submerged hotel room, floating amongst the turquoise blue water swimming with tropical life and coral reef. By night, sleep beside the fish – the bottom platform is illuminated with underwater spotlights beneath each window, attracting a variety rare marine creatures.

Manhattan Micro Loft By Specht Harpman Architects

Specht-Harpman-Micro-Loft-2-render-600x652 Specht-Harpman-Micro-Loft-1

It’s really hard to make 425 square feet look spacious but Specht Harpman Architects managed to do just that in this once awkward New York City apartment that’s set at the top of a six-story building. By creating  living platforms, they were able to accommodate all the necessities an apartment might need while keeping the space open and bright. Helping with that was the fact that they were working with over 24 feet of vertical space, making it possible to create the multiple layers of  rooms. The compact bathroom is hidden away on the bottom floor beneath the staircase. While the kitchen is small, it remains open to the living room. They kept the cabinets and countertops white which helps keep it bright and airy. Every detail was kept simple as not to overwhelm the tight quarters and it really appears larger than the actual square footage. Up the first set of stairs you have the bedroom layer which seems to almost float above the living room below.

Fiji Airways

FutureBrand Australia was selected by Air Pacific as their lead design partner to assist the airline with rebranding its identity and experience, as it transforms to ‘Fiji Airways’ in mid-2013. When tasked to search for a new visual language for ‘Fiji Airways’, Air Pacific CEO Dave Pflieger sent the FutureBrand team out to Fiji’s beautiful Mamanuca outer islands to see Fiji and its people at their best. It was there that we saw first-hand the prevalence, beauty, and respect that Fiji has for tradition and its traditional Masi art – an ancient art that embodies the spirit and stories of Fijian culture. From there, we partnered with Air Pacific and locally renowned Masi artist Makereta Matemosi to create the new identity for ‘Fiji Airways’. Makereta created a traditional Fijian Masi for the airline, which is celebrated in the airline’s new identity and translated into its new livery design. Our team also helped design the new cabin interiors of the new ‘Fiji Airways’ A330 aircraft which have Makereta’s Masi motifs embedded in the details.

Space-Saving Suspended Bed in a Modern London Apartment

suspendedbedapt6 suspendedbedapt5 suspendedbedapt4 suspendedbedapt3 suspendedbedapt2

Good urban architectural design takes space and aesthetic into account, allowing them to work in unison, much like this efficient London apartment in Camden. While some compact residences use a modular design to create the visual effect of more space, this particular English home opts to design vertically by featuring a suspended bed overhead. This innovative apartment allows inhabitants to have more walking room on the ground floor without disrupting the tastefully modern design. The bed hangs above the living area like an elegant, simple balcony with a equally complementing staircase leading up to it. The bed is also situated below a retractable glass skylight that leads to a 500-square-foot rooftop garden. It proves that smaller living spaces don’t mean cramped, unattractive environments.

Foster + Partners’ Atrium Awarded Best Bar

atrium_fosterandpartners_04 atrium_fosterandpartners_03

The nine-story Atrium Champagne Bar in London, designed by Foster + Partners, has been awarded “Best Bar” at the fifth UK and International Restaurant & Bar Design Awards. Arriving guests pass through the ground floor lounge, and ascend to a dedicated hotel lobby (The ME Hotel) and champagne bar on the first floor, housed within the hotel’s main spatial event – a nine-storey high pyramid, clad entirely in white marble, with a highly reflective, black polished granite floor.

“The project is the first hotel in which everything, from the shell of the building to the bathroom fittings, has been designed by Foster + Partners. As a result, the drama of the interior spaces is provided by the bold geometry of the structure – the challenge for the design was to complement and not detract from, the 80 foot high top-lit space. The minimal furnishings were custom-made and include a 30-metre long curving bench, sleek black reception desks and a freestanding triangular champagne bar. Rather than works of art that interrupt the space, the projections celebrate its scale – giant jellyfish rise upwards as if from the depths of the sea, and the triangulated panels of the marble cladding are illuminated and animated like origami.” say the UK and International Restaurant & Bar Design Awards.

Located at an altitude of 159 meters on the rocky island cliffs of Ibiza, Spain, the AIBS House has been designed by Atelier d’Architecture Bruno Erpicum & Partners to allow the inhabitants to fully appreciate the stunning sunsets and surrounding landscape. All the main living areas feature floor-to-ceiling single frame windows which look out upon the infinity pool and terrace, both of which mimic the cliffs and sea during calm weather and act as a direct contrast during stormy weather. Inside, the 400 sqm space has been sparsely and minimally decorated so as not to draw attention away from untouched countryside.

Lakehouse Residence Winter Haven, Florida, US

Florida-based architectural practice, Max Strang Architecture have designed the Lakehouse Residence project.  This eco-friendly contemporary home is located in Winter Haven, Florida, US. Registered with the USGBC, this modern property is anticipated to be Winter Haven’s first LEED-certified residence. The interior design has been conceived as wooden volumes nestled within an outer stucco “shell”. The shell provides generous eight-foot overhangs, which shelter the walls of glass from the Florida sun. A narrow courtyard amplifies the arrival experience and creates a privacy barrier for the private realm of the home.

Luxury-Homes-Florida-05

The luxury property incorporates important passive environmental design concepts that result in abundant day-lighting and cross-ventilation potential. Glazing on the south elevation is extremely limited and a mature oak tree filters afternoon solar heat gain. Active environmental design features include a solar photovoltaic system, solar hot-water heaters, geothermal HVAC and LED lighting. The luxury Miami home, located on a central Florida lake, contains four bedrooms and a kitchen, dining room, living room and office. A pool and covered terrace are positioned along the lake-side of the home.

Located amongst the lush shrubs and trees in Saint-Tropez, France, this contemporary private home stands in direct contrast to its natural surroundings, constructed from a combination of glass, raw concrete, and steel. Each level is reminiscent of an open pavilion, with the boundaries to the outdoors broken down by sliding floor-to-ceiling windows and doors. Inside, the layout has been kept as open plan as possible, with a large lounge and kitchen/dining area lending itself perfectly to simple Mediterranean meals. Direct access to the large roof terrance is also available from the lounge area, from which you can see an additional shipping container-style guesthouse in the grounds.

29 Square Meters

29squaremeters_00

As the name suggests, “29 square meters” is an apartment which covers exactly that amount of space (roughly 312 sq ft). Located in Wroclaw, Poland, the tiny home has been efficiently maximized by local architecture firm 3XA, who added a semi-mezzanine (an entire second floor level was not possible due to the restricting 12ft ceilings) above the bathroom and hallway, allowing for a rather spacious sleeping area. Below, the living room, kitchen and dining area were all knocked into one open-plan space, giving a sense of freedom and airiness. Additionally, to deceive the senses, a door leading to nowhere was added to one of the walls.

The Fish House

FISH-1 FISH-5 FISH-11 FISH-12 FISH-2

Guz Architects have created a tropical bungalow perfect for it’s location in Singapore called The Fish House. The modern home is designed to encourage natural ventilation, to do this the team of architects set out to create large open spaces, and glass walls that open up into functional outdoor activity areas. Guz explained that their main goal was to create a home with seamless integration of the surrounding nature. This was accomplished through the pond-like pool and by creating great views of the water and vegetation.
