Want Some Waterproof Headphones? Talk To xFyro!

It may seem like quite a closely contended match between different earbuds and the companies making them.  Some are compatible with all mobile platforms, others boast of incredible battery lives, and some work as fitness trackers that sit within your ears. Now, the Aria by xFyro, claims to be one of the world’s only truly wireless earphones with an IPx67 waterproof rating.

Let’s understand first what the IPx67 rating actually is. The IP Code, or the Ingress Protection Code determines the ability of a product (usually electronics) to protect itself from intrusion by elements from the outside, especially dust or water. The first digit in the rating determines protection against dust. A rating of 6 usually means the product is completely impervious to dust of all sizes. The second number in the rating determines liquid ingress. The 7 rating in the 67 means the Aria can withstand immersion in water up to 1 meter tested for a period of 30 minutes. The IPx67 rating on the Aria therefore allows it to be used while in the gym (it being impervious to sweat), in the shower, or even while swimming in a pool.

Aside from its water and dust resistance, the Aria leverages battery-related advancements over the past few years to provide a stunning 32 hours of playback time. The earbuds themselves work for 8 hours continuously (that’s the equivalent of about 5 movies or more than 160 songs), and the slick, hockey-puck case gives you an additional 24 hours of charging time. The Aria also comes with Bluetooth 5.0, the latest standard that allows for instant pairing by simply bringing the earphones near your smartphone. With crystal quality sound that’s unfettered, the Aria also has a capacitive touch surface that lets you control music playback as well as activate the voice assistant on your phone.

Designed to work across multiple mobile platforms, the Aria is, to frame things accurately, a slight upgrade in all departments. With a significantly better battery, better audio courtesy a 16mm driver (more than thrice as large as the Airpods), better waterproofing, and a universal approach, it may just be the wireless earphones to beat.  Pick some up here.

What Is 4D Sound?

maxresdefault-4

ViviTouch 4D Sound was developed with EAP (Electroactive Polymers). Pioneered by Bayer, EAP is an incredibly thin and flexible film that can be used as a flexible capacitor. The proprietary dielectric polymer expands when exposed to an electrical current and contracts when electricity is discharged. Stretchable electrodes are printed on either sides of the EAP film. Furthermore, by printing a specific frame pattern, a developed planer actuator acts as a new type of electrical motor converting electrical energy directly into mechanical motion.

The printed film is designed into an overthe‐ear headphone, these polymer motors move the skin around the user’s ears and generates a very realistic subwoofer experience similar to what one would normally feel only in a concert hall or movie theatre. The electro-active polymer has 10x faster response time and covers a broad frequency range. 4D Sound can generate thousands of unique sensations and enables a full spectrum of sensory sound.

The Next Step In Documenting Your Adventures… Soundsight Headphones.

SoundSightHeadphones

Every I have a gig, there is a minimum of one moment where I wish I could show my friends what I just saw.  Sometimes that could be someone jumping on stage and showing the world why not everyone should attempt twerking, or the immense reaction to bringing a special guest entertainer out to perform.  No matter how good a hired camera man may be, no one sees things from your perspective besides you.  The Soundsight headphones, and its app offer a way to get around that, presenting a new, unique angle to documentation.  I’m looking into picking some up for my next tour, especially after seeing the video below.

For any and all additional information about production, quality, components, (or a pretty dope promo video featuring UFC fighter Brandon Ruckus) you can click on any of the photos, or right here to check out their site.

Oscar de la Renta x Beats by Dr. Dre.

There have been a string of Oscar de la Renta expansions of late, although the most unexpected comes in the launch of a partnership with rapper Dr. Dre on a pair of lavish designer headphones which double up as earmuffs.  Currently featuring on the “new arrivals” section of the Oscar de la Renta website, the fluffy “luxe silver fox” earmuffs surround a pair of Beats by Dr. Dre headphones.  Retailing at $695, this limited edition item is one of de la Renta’s more extravagant partnerships, compared to the label’s teaming up with US luxury stationery firm Mrs. John L. Strong on items such as note cards, invitations and place cards.  While de la Renta announced the launch of a childrenswear collection for Fall 2012 just last month, the label’s Dre collaboration hints there could be hip-hop themed ventures to come for the ever-expanding brand.

AIAIAI x WESC Headphones.

In days gone by, headphones were the size of half-a-head and blocked out the entire outside world. The audio was amazing but you sweated profusely because of the generous foam padding… And you looked idiotic.  Through several mutations, we then ended up at the other extreme, with minuscule earbuds that nearly vanished in your ear — and you still looked dorky.

Now, we have moved on to “audio fashion wear” that combines the best of all worlds. Copenhagen’s AIAIAI with its design partners at Kilo has come up with stylish, light-weight Tracks Headphone Series that combines toned-down nostalgic looks with superior sound quality.  A leather version of Tracks, in natural and black, is apparently in the works as well.

Kotori Headphones.

If you can’t find a pair of headphones that visually meets your needs from Kotori’s more than 100 variations, you may have more serious problems than just the lack of cool audiowear.  However, if you just don’t like any of the suggested color combinations, you can easily design your own by selecting the color of each of the 10 components, or just hit shuffle and see what happens randomly.  With the technology of the Japanese Fostex, supplier of recording and speaker gear for professionals, Kotori headphones should meet your needs also in audio quality.

These headphones will likely add a few problems to your life, though: They are so cool that you will forever be telling everyone where you got them AND you will have to keep a close eye on your Kotoris as your design-hungry friends will want to borrow them.  Apparently, kotori means little bird, or lucky bird in Japanese, and screech owl spirit in native American Hopi language. Either way, you will want to flaunt these, even if you only played your music on mute.

In the appealing Japanese style that it both cute and sleek in its rounded friendliness and minimalist functionality, Kotori headphones have a yummy sensibility that makes you want to choose several pairs at once. Each of the seven pre-set themes – pop, sweet, cool, vivid, natural, animal, and delicious – has 15 variations. Our current favorites are the Mikan in Vivid and the retro Woody in Natural.

HTC Teams Up With Beats By Dre.

The marriage of these two companies is very, very good. We are very good for each other,” says Jimmy Iovine, the chairman of Interscope Geffen A&M Records and co-founder of Beats By Dr. Dre with rapper/producer Dr. Dre. “With HTC’s innovation, technology and leadership, we feel we can really compete with anybody in this area.”

Bad Nurse?

I got a sneak peek of the movie ‘Bad Teacher’ the other day, and was thoroughly impressed.  I went to the screening with my good friend Jeanie, who happens to be a nurse in the Bay Area, and she told me there are some people on her hospital staff that remind her of Ms. Halsey from the movie.  In the process of the conversation she mentioned a fake stethoscope that actually functions as a pair of head phones.  I was so fascinated by this, I did a little digging and I found them.  “Stetheadphones” allow you to make and receive calls, access voice-control features, and manage music playback from your iPhone or iPod.  Quite ingenious.

Nice Cups!

Great Accessories in Music History: Mozart’s powdered wigs, Elton John’s sunglasses, The Ramones’ black leather jackets, Tommy Lee’s “third” drum stick, Kevin Federline. Now designers Min-guk Ji & Hong-joo Kim & In-oh Yoo & for Metatrend Institute have invented what could be the greatest music accessory since the groupie. The “Transparent OLED Headphones” (working title I’m assuming) are made from flexible OLED panels that allow the user to custom design a lighting show or patterns across your cranium. These custom designs can also be set to your current track or “color groove setting”, scroll any message texts or simply remain whatever color you’re feeling like that day. The left side button controls your sound functions while the right side button controls the light show. I think these headphones are so revolutionary they just may need a new segment name. How about headtirps? or eargasms? or maybe headbands?

LG’s Next Future Phone Concept.

I used to have a few LG phones back in the day, and in my personal opinion, LG needs to stop making iPhone “killers” and start making crazy designs like the cell phone that turns into headphones. At least it’s something innovative. The Hi-Fi, headphone turning cell phone was one of the winners among LG’s Design the Future competition.  If this ever ends up becoming a real product, it may turn some heads. Of course there are going to be a lot of questions regarding the design and functionability of the phone but the future looks bright for LG. They just need to stop trying to compete with Apple and just design their own cool phones and gadgets that work.

Yi Zip Earphones

The YI earphones concept will take care of a lot of wire-tangle-hassles in the future when they go into production. Simple thought process and application… If pants can have a zipper to hold in the essentials then why the idea can’t be used on earphones to manage them when not in use. Zip then open when you want to use them; zip them shut when you want to store them.  They come with volume control button and all.
