Nintendo has announced it will delay preorders for its new Switch 2 console due to President Trump’s tariffs. The news comes right after Nintendo revealed the Switch 2 during a press event on Wednesday. Originally, the console was set for preorder starting April 9th, but now Nintendo is taking extra time to figure out how to handle the increased costs caused by tariffs. Products made in China now face a 54% import tax, while those from Vietnam have a 46% tax. This could make the Switch 2, which costs $449, even more expensive than expected, and could hurt sales in the U.S.
Even though preorders are delayed, the Switch 2 will still be available for sale starting June 6th, as planned. The Switch 2 is one of the biggest game releases this year, alongside Grand Theft Auto 6, and is expected to boost the video game industry, which has slowed down after the pandemic. Gamers can also look forward to other exciting games like Mario Kart World, Elden Ring, Hogwarts Legacy, Donkey Kong Bananza, and Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4.
The Switch 2 builds on the original Switch with cool new features. It has a bigger 7.9-inch screen with 1080p resolution and a better refresh rate. The console still has detachable controllers, which can be used as individual controllers, and now it includes a chat feature. The built-in microphone picks up your voice even from across the room and cancels out background noise, making it easier to talk to friends and family while gaming. Keep an eye out for the announcement video below.
