Batman vs. Meta.

Meta has announced the upcoming release of Batman: Arkham Shadow, the latest installment in the renowned Batman: Arkham series, which will be a virtual reality (VR) game exclusive to the Meta Quest 3 platform. Developed by Camouflaj, the studio behind Iron Man VR, in collaboration with Oculus Studios, Batman: Arkham Shadow is slated for release later this year. While Meta has provided limited details about the game itself, they unveiled a brief teaser trailer showcasing Batman’s perspective as he navigates the gritty, rain-soaked streets of Gotham City.

Although specifics about gameplay features remain scarce, the trailer hints at the inclusion of traversal sections reminiscent of the exhilarating gliding mechanics that distinguished Batman: Arkham City. Meta has yet to announce the voice actor for Batman in Arkham Shadow following the passing of Kevin Conroy, renowned for his definitive portrayal of the Dark Knight, who voiced Batman in Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League before his death in 2022.

This isn’t the first time the Batman: Arkham series has ventured into the realm of virtual reality. In 2016, Rocksteady Studios released Batman: Arkham VR for the PlayStation VR platform, later expanding to other VR headsets. Initial impressions during the game’s demo at E3 2016 were mixed, with some critics noting that the experience lacked certain elements that defined the main series. Upon its full release, which reportedly offered only a brief playtime of one to two hours, Batman: Arkham VR received moderate reviews, however, the results can’t be any worse than this…
