An Energy Solution Better Than Solar Power?
When it comes to energy solutions in developing regions, the resources require to invoke real change are usually sparse. The designers at Therefore worked on a gravity powered lamp in their spare time over four years. The London-based design firm is expecting the light to cost less than $5 to manufacture at scale. Once a family purchases the light, they’ll be able to keep it running at no additional expense.
They’ve got an Indiegogo campaign up now to help fund production of the first lights for testing—show them some love.
Another idea that is already out there is the “litre of light”, which uses a mix of water and household bleach to “store” sunlight during the day. Love these lo-tech solutions!
