Finnish icebreaker company Arctia Shipping have unveiled their brand new floating headquarters located in the Helsinki harbor. Designed by K2S Architects, the 10,000 sq ft space mimics the icebreakingships their business revolves around, using a cold and stark exterior with a warm wooden interior. According to the architects, the decision to have a floating office was based on Arctia’s need to have their team as close to its ships as possible. It also allowed the KS2 to work from a blank canvas without the need to clear land or impact the surrounding landscape. Speaking to Gizmag, K2S architect Mikko Summanen said: “There was not enough space on ground and this solution also allows the company to move the office building into another location if necessary. The whole structure was built in the dock yards in controlled climate conditions, which is a great benefit in a Nordic climate.”
