When it comes to winning, it isn’t always about who has the most skill, but who has the most heart. 27-year-old Nick Newell, out of Connecticut, is a testament to this. With only one arm, Newell has stacked up an impressive 10-0 record in mixed martial arts, leaving him undefeated in the lightweight division. With his left arm ending at his elbow, Nick is handicapped in literally every match he fights in; however, he hasn’t let that affect his career. The condition he has is known as congenital amputation, which is present in approximately one in every 2,000 babies born. Newell may be the most successful case of this condition yet. This weekend, he faced off against Keon Caldwell at the World Series of Fighting 4 on the NBC Sports Network, where he put on a show. The match didn’t get very far, as Newell had Caldwell tap out in just the first round with a perfectly executed guillotine choke submission. Only one of Newell’s fights has lasted past the first round.
