From Skateboards to Scluptures.

I’m a big fan of anything that has to do with skateboarding, especially since so many of my boys take it very seriously.  Haroshi is a Japanese artist who takes old, thrashed and broken skateboards and turns them into beautiful wooden sculptures.  Some of these sculptures look so life-like that if they weren’t multicolored, you might mistake them for being real.  Haroshi goes through thousands of old skateboard decks and handpicks each piece that he wants to use.  Once he picks the material he stacks them on top of each other, cuts them down to size, shaves off the excess debris and paints them.  The final product is then coated with a glossy finish.  The coolest aspect of each recycled skateboard sculpture isn’t what it looks like on the outside.  Haroshi likes to give each piece “a soul,” so as he’s constructing it he puts a broken metal skateboard piece in the center.  It’s kind of like the “heart” of his work.  Check the method.

Sak’s 5th Ave. Afterparty @ Vessel.

Vessel In San Francisco

Last week I got the distinct pleasure of accompanying a good friend to the Sak’s 5th Ave gala, and the ensuing after party.  The after party was held at San Francisco’s Vessel Night Club, and was thrown by David Ali and the good folks at ‘Above Ground Ent.’  Too Short and Keith Sweat were also in the building for the party (Sorry again Ash).  I had an amazing time, and if you reside in the San Francisco area, the next time David Ali and ‘Above Ground’ are throwing an event at Vessel, I highly suggest you make plans to attend.

‘Hawaii West’ x DJ Storm

Recently, thanks to one of my newest favorite bartenders, I spoke with the owner of San Francisco’s ‘Hawaii West’ bar about producing a mix CD last week, and I’ve been laying the framework ever since. The tracks and mixes on the CD will reflect both the atmosphere of the bar, and the diverse tastes of some of the patrons. Due to other business obligations, I don’t have the same time frame as I did with ‘Cocktails & Condoms’, so I’m going to concentrate my efforts and blast this one out much quicker with the same quality as my other mixes which will be a challenge. So stay tuned for more details coming very soon.

The REAL Shangri-La

Luxury hotel chain Shangri-La announced that it would be coming to its namesake region in China September 9 — but is Shangri-La’s Shangri-La the real deal?  The chain has broken ground on a 230-room city resort in Diqing, a city in Shangri-La country in the Chinese province of Yunnan, set to open in early 2013.  The new low-rise resort will feature guest rooms that average 40 square meters in size and several Chinese and speciality restaurants, along with a health club, spa and beauty salon and indoor lap pool at the hotel.  Shangri-La was first described by James Hilton in a 1933 novel entitled Lost Horizon — and rather disappointingly for guests of the Shangri-La hotel, it was a fictional place, inhabited by mystical, almost immortal people.

Footage from the Jay-Z/Eminem Concert.

It’s a shame I couldn’t be on the east coast for one of the biggest concert events of the new decade, but I was happy when I got to peep some live footage of the event, here were my two favorite clips.  Check the method.

Introducing: The 2012 McLaren MP4-12C

Revealed last September, the MP4-12C is motivated by a twin-turbocharged, 592-hp, 3.8-liter V-8, which was developed by McLaren in partnership with Ricardo. Now that we’ve all seen the car in person, we agree that it looks better than in photos, especially with this car’s matte-black wheels. A few editors still think it’s a little bland in the styling department, however, although the fact that the body panels exist solely for aerodynamic purposes is a good excuse.

T-Pain ft. Busta Rhymes – Dance With Me

T-Pain has done it again.  ‘Teddy Pender-ass’ and ‘Bussa Bus’ have collaborated to create the club relaxer “Dance With Me”.  Most will say its reminiscent of “Chopped & Screwed” or “Can’t Believe It”, but to me personally the beat from the snippet reminds me of a Tokyo 24 track for the ladies.  Click the pic to download.

The Avengers First Teaser.

I got my first glimpse of the “Avengers” teaser, which is much to my dismay, didn’t really show sh*t.  It’s very reminiscent of the first “Dark Knight” teaser that just showed the Batman logo in flames, and sound clips from the film.  I would have said that the trailer was a hoax if it wasn’t the mighty Samuel L. Jackson himself narrating.  But take a look, its nothing too revealing, but it does put a warm fuzzy feeling in your stomach.

Check Out 5 Rediculously Nice Offices.

White Mountain Office

This office somewhat reminds me of the nuclear bunker in the end of Terminator 3 mixed with the Hall of the Legion of Doom. This old atomic shelter is now used by Swedish ISP. This really is a one of a kind work environment.

Red Bull London

This is probably one of my favorite offices. Partially because of the sleek minimalistic look, but mostly because of the dope carbon slide. Red Bull’s awesome 3 floor office was created by Jump Studios, an architecture company from London, UK.

JWT New York

JWT is one of the oldest advertising agencies in the world. This office is designed over five floors and designed to accommodate 900 employees. This office reflects JWT’s business model and brand identity and it was designed by the creative minds of Clive Wilkinson Architects.

Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Slovenia

This has to be the coolest government office I’ve ever seen. The organic looking white framework in combination with a lot of windows and tons of plants makes this office a real treat for your eyes.

Facebook

The new Facebook office is centred around employees needs and wants. Several small ‘neighbourhoods’ were created to give each department its own unique style. Employees are encouraged to write on walls, add artwork, and move furniture as they see fit.

Insanely Detailed Digital Artwork

OmeN2501, real name Marek Okon, is a digital artist from Lublin, Poland who is incredibly talented at digital painting and digital art.  Currently, he primarily works as a concept artist and artist for videogames and literature, and of course, many of his works are around the internet as wallpapers.

He tends to mix science fiction with traditional fantasy, and while subtle influences such as Blade Runner, Lord of the Rings and other epics are evident in his works, his style remains wholly original and will leave you captivated.

G-Funk Homeless Beatboxer.

My homeboy Mike Tudor put me up on this video over a year ago, but it recently came back up in conversation, and I felt the need to post it up. The beatboxer in the video goes by the name “Red” and is said to have locked down an industry deal soon after this video blew up. At the time the video was shot, Red was allegedly homeless, and outside behind a performance venue doing his thing for the camera. Check the method.

Water Shade Concept.

Designed by Yitu Wang, this project is completely apolitical. It IS literally a gate of water. This project goes by the name of “Water Shade” and keeps a shield of H2O around the fruit it is sworn to protect. It’s both a dish and a cover, working with water to keep freshness in and everything larger than Oxygen OUT! Designer Yitu Wang doesn’t want to keep you from your delicious apples though, so there’s a built in detector that sees your hand in approach, and thus is does desist.

Moisture is locked in. Freshness is locked in. Flies are locked out. Dust is locked out. And when you come up and decide you’d love to have a strawberry, as soon as your hand gets near, the streams in that area stop. You’ll remain dry. Dope sauce.

Chicken In Your Car.

Yesterday I was sitting in a local cafe with my assistant a few of my boys, and I was showed one of the most hillarious videos I’ve seen in quite some time. Whoever this kid is gets my applause. I still haven’t stopped cracking up.  (How many points B?)

Biometric Wallet

Dunhill’s Biometric Wallet is a sleek, lightweight carbon fiber-wrapped vault that opens via a biometric swipe of your finger.  The high-tech materials used to produce these wallets provide a virtually-indestructible architecture in a feather-weight form.  The system can also be hooked up to your mobile phone via Bluetooth to alert you if the wallet becomes too far from you and your cell.  Just be prepared to dish out $700 for it.

Wiz Khalifa – Damn It Feels Good To Be A Taylor

Dream Big, Hustle Hard.

Rob Scott & Carlo P

Its only every so often you see an artist with the potential to take over the world before he’s started, but Rob Scott is a name that some may not have heard, but will be familiar with very soon. A couple of my boys accompanied Rob Scott to Miami for the “Dream Big, Hustle Hard” Showcase, and were not the least bit suprised when he swept the competition. Check the video below. Shout outs to Rob Ru, Jose B., Carlo P., and Rob Scott, and don’t forget to listen for Rob’s music on ‘Cocktails & Condoms’.

The Man Has A Sliding House.

Okay, it is not every day that you come across a home like this. Sliding House, by dRMM Architecture does something that we have never seen or heard any another house do – it slides. At first glance, the form looks nothing special and gives you the idea of a regular timber barn until you realise that the entire outer skin (the wooden part) is capable of sliding back and forth. Here is a short video in which the owner Ross Russel explains the concept of the house and shows how the sliding takes place.

DJ Storm Presents: Jadakiss, Ludacris, & Eminem ft. Asher Roth, Queen, & The Cool Kids – Ridaz

Many people in the Tri-State area are familiar with the collection I released in 09′ titled “The Mix Up”.  It was basically an attempt to merge old-school/underground beats with mainstream lyrics.  Mashing up artists that have never worked together, and changing the context of verses to create new meanings was my main challenge throughout the entire process.  One of my close friends recently heard the track “Ridaz” and has since threatened not to leave my condo until I put it on my blog.  lol.  So here for the (re)consideration of the fans is the song.  You can click here to hear the entire “Mix Up” collection, but click the picture above to download “Ridaz”.  And don’t forget, ‘Being a gangsta is like riding a bike, because once you learn, you never forget.

Incredible Photos of Far Away Places.

Chances are you already know Steve McCurry as the man who took one of the most iconic photos of our time. If not, just know that McCurry has shot over a million images spanning 35 years. More than anything, he is one of a few that has that amazing ability to capture stories of our shared human experience. As he says “Most of my images are grounded in people. I look for the unguarded moment, the essential soul peeking out, experience etched on a person’s face. I try to convey what it is like to be that person, a person caught in a broader landscape that you could call the human condition.”

"Dennis... What the f*ck are we gonna do with THIS?!"

Eastman Kodak let McCurry shoot the last ever produced roll of Kodachrome transparency film. The film, known for its rich saturation and archival durability of its slides, was discontinued last year. The roll will be the subject of an upcoming documentary by National Geographic. Can’t wait to see it.

The Details About Love-Fest Being Cancelled.

This Poster Is Now A LIE.

I was hangin with a good friend, when I was informed that the famous day event that most of us in San Francisco look forward to all year, was cancelled.  DJ Jeff Phantom and I had some real crazy things planned for this year.  This is the letter from the Love Fest folks making it official.  Sorry folks.

It is with huge regret we announce that we are not able to hold the day portion of our 2010 LovEvolution event this year. Love Week, with affiliated events and parties will still take place from Wednesday, September 29th to Sunday, October 3rd.

After last year’s successful event, we worked for months on a plan for a parade and festival at Civic Center. Many changes were in the works that would have made the event safer and more enjoyable. Some city departments were still opposed however and we were in discussion about ways of limiting capacity at Civic Center, as over-crowding was the biggest concern. Then the tragedy occurred at LoveParade in Germany. After that weekend, we decided it would be best to seek another location.

Because of the short time for planning and the unavailability of our preferred potential venues, the parking lot of Candlestick Park was the only site available. We announced our intention to move the event to Candlestick for 2010, but were finally told that we would need to go to the Rec and Parks Commission for approval and that permission could not be acquired until two weeks before the event. As that was not enough time to properly produce an event such as ours, we decided to cancel the event for this year.

This has been a difficult decision for everyone involved. Without doubt, it has been an unprecedented summer of tragedies at large events and that has made city authorities very cautious. After five months of discussions, in the end, we decided that it would be best to re-group, reinvent and come back even better than ever next year. That is fully our intention.

Stay tuned for more information and if you’ve already made your travel plans to SF know that there is still TONS of fun to be had.

We will be emailing you with more info about Love Week later this week so stay tuned. In the mean time, we highly recommend you get your pre-sale tickets for the special show at the Warfield wtih Infected Mushoom, Shpongle, Hallucinogen, and more!

Keep the faith!

“I Dint Hadda Sh*t When I’za Kid!”

I’m sure just like everyone else reading this, when you were little, and you couldn’t ride a bike, you had training wheels.  Those stupid annoying, squeaky wheels on little metal shoots barely attached to the rear end of your bike were much of the source of any teasing you may have received from older kids who could ride without them.  I remember when my training wheels were off, I was free to scrape my legs up and down the sidewalk.  I magically had the ability to embarrass myself far worse by falling down over and over again riding down the street than I ever could have with the training wheels on.  Eventually, no child may ever have to go through those types of situations again.  Check the method, and I guarentee that if bike riding was a big part of your life when you were a youngin’, you’ll find yourself saying “I didn’t have that sh*t when I was a kid”.

A San Francisco Re-Treat.

I found a good example of modern timber architecture I came across by Quezada Architecture and I thought it was worth a shout-out. This San Francisco-area timber house is so inviting, with its wide-open double entry doors and interior that’s modern, yet “home.” Offering views of the hillside, this outdoor entertaining area is the home’s hotspot.  God forbid I was able ever to lock this spot down for a house party… Madness.

LudaDay’s Celebrity Basketball Game Footage

And everyone has been inquiring about the song in the video.  The song is called “Celebrity” by the female rapper ‘Khaos’.  Click here to download.

Unstoppable

Its not often a rookie actor, and a vet pair up to be part of a great movie, but when I heard about Chris Pine (the new Captain Kirk) and Denzel Washington (every black 30+ woman’s wet dream) coming together on the same project, I was interested. I just recently saw the preview for it, and I knew I had to share, check the method below.
