How About A Solar Powered DJ Booth In Your Local Park.

Have you ever found yourself wandering through a suburban park and wondering “this experience would be better with music”?  Well, your prayers may about to be answered, as Dutch sports company Yalp have developed a solar-powered DJ booth that is popping up in parks all over the place. Denmark, Finland, the Netherlands and Australia are the early adopters, and the booth has been positioned in public, absolutely free spots for anyone to wander up and start jamming their favorite tunes.

It’s a simple enough device – you bring your mobile device and rest it on a special pad, which picks up the musical output without any wires (seriously, it’s like magic). Then you can muck around with the various effects (bitcrusher, delay, pitch shift etc) using the platters as controllers, and crossfade as necessary. Obviously if you wanna get the most out of it as an amateur DJ then you’ll need two devices, but we reckon that collaboration is being encouraged here.  One thing that does seem a bit iffy to us though is that with your phone sitting on the booth, relatively unguarded, how long will it last before someone snatches it? They are in public parks, after all.

Pharell: Creative Director Of KarmaloopTV.

Billboard reports that rapper-producer Pharrell Williams of N.E.R.D. and The Neptunes fame will serve as creative director for the Karmaloop TV, which is the network scheduled to launch later this year. Karmaloop will feature original productions along with movies that have shaped the 18-to-34-year-olds who grew up with the Internet. It’s essentially programming for the digital, plugged in generation.

Pirates Are Alive And Well In London

Out in London, the art of pirate radio is alive and well.  The secret urban studios that transmit music from concrete tower blocks to the city, are home to DJs, and station managers, rappers and MCs. This short documentary features DJ Scratcha from RINSE FM, MC Flirt from old school KOOL FM, J2k, Jammer, and Logan Sama. Uncover how they stay underground and away from the authorities, while still setting the new music standard across London. The video sails to the source, where it all started – massive concrete and steel forts that sit at the mouth of the Thames River. Meet the people who pioneered the spirit of pirate, and played the music that London wanted to hear. They set the standard, and when the authorities shut them down, pirate sounds went into the urban underground.

Crazy Subway Architecture

So as I’m sure everyone is aware, I’m located in the Bay Area of California, and for those who don’t know, the local subway system is referred to as B.A.R.T (Bay Area Rapid Transit). Many of the stations differ in appearance, but none of them are anywhere near as spectacular as some of the european subway stations below. Check the method below. (And my appologies for not having the specific information about what country each stop is located.)
