Solar Blinds That Charge Your Phone?

The Rolar Blinds do three things. They harness the energy of the sun, they cut the glare of the sun out during the day, keeping your indoors ambient, and they look absolutely gorgeous while they do the above two.

The Rolar Blinds stand at the crux between new-age photovoltaic printing techniques, a rise in demand for solar panels, and absolute graphic beauty, as they explore printing solar cells in manners that almost feel like graffiti, but with a more direct purpose, i.e., charging your devices. At the bottom of the blinds rest the cylindrical weights that come with a USB port that let you charge your devices or your power-banks by simply plugging them into the curtain and leaving them on a table nearby or the windowsill as you tap into the solar system’s largest (free) power source.

The cylindrical members (battery packs) are even detachable, allowing you to carry your power with you. However, the convenience of the Rolar Blinds takes second place to its graphical beauty that bring art and technology together beautifully and seamlessly.

Charge Your Phone ANYWHERE.

As much as I’d like, Solar Power hasn’t become mainstream yet. I guess not many people have really seen how useful it can be. Apart from solar panels on your roof, no one has really explored alternative uses for these panels. Why? Because they’re bulky, expensive, and for the longest time, they were breakable. But now technology’s solved all those problems for us. The Heli-on is a testament to that.

Designed to fit into the grip of your palm, this pocket sized wonder has its own flexible solar panel rolled up cozily into a cylindrical outer casing. It also has its own inbuilt battery that allows you to charge your devices when Mr. Sun is a’hiding. Use the solar panels to directly charge your devices, or to charge the Heli-on itself. Stuck without sunlight? The Heli-on is still a good investment because it charges via USB too. Don’t ever run out of batteries on your phone because you played too much Two Dots ever again.

Solar access to the front and a busy road to the rear drove the creation of a central courtyard with two story alfresco and mezzanine walkway which formed the focal point of the home. The mixture of timber and stone complement the metal work and concrete giving the home a warm industrial interior design edge. The free form living area features a central polished plaster ethanol fireplace and is adjacent to the state of the art kitchen with a concealed cool room and pantry. The remainder of the ground floor is comprised of a library, powder room, laundry and a separate master wing with dressing room, ensuite and private courtyard. Designed for multi-generational living, the upper floor has a separate living room and balcony which overlooks the stairwell and courtyard beyond. Both upper floor bedrooms access the mezzanine walkway and have a shared bathroom and separate kitchenette.

FOTON Solar-Powered illuminating Furniture

Foton illuminating street furniture is a project by Turkish company Hanmak. The main purpose of this furniture is to create awareness about renewable energy. LED lighting system uses the solar and wind energy to produce electricity and stores it in the battery. The furniture itself is made of high quality and long-lasting material.

A Solar Floating Resort.

Italian industrial designer Michele Puzzolante has come up with a conceptual floating luxury hotel suite he claims could be entirely self-powering thanks to the dye-sensitized solar cells which would be integrated into the vessel’s walls.  Puzzolante suggests his “Solar Floating Resort” could be navigated along exotic coast lines, while its six resident passengers observe marine wildlife thanks to its underwater “observation bulb”.

The Solar Camera Strap.

Most photographers use a sturdy camera strap while clicking pictures and here’s an idea that wants to capitalize on it. This is done by making the strap solar-savvy.  Meaning, adding thin solar films across the width of the strap, so as to harness solar energy when out on the field. Aptly christened the Solar Camera Strap, it’s a neat idea; when we can have solar panels on backpacks and what not, then why not on a camera strap?
