This Is… (Insert Your Country Here).

Childish Gambino (Donald Glover) flabbergasted the country when he randomly released his incredible video for “This Is America”.  The symbolism, reflections of the current state of the U.S., and the over all tone of the music video is undeniably well thought out, original, and has resonated to not just Americans.  Several artists from all around the world have stepped up to represent the problems in the places that they live.  NOW, not to downplay the plights of other nations, but the similar styles, which are directly bitten from Gambino seem a bit unoriginal, and although the messages are clear, insightful, and informative, after a bit, one would hope that these artists would have found their own way to convey their thoughts. That being said, these “remixes” of ‘This Is America’ are extremely worth taking a listen to.  Between I-NZ bringing light to the state of Iraq post Americas 2003 invasion, or Falz discussing the conditions of current day Nigera, you can search for almost any country you want, you’ll find one of these videos.  Check the method below, listen to the messages.

Spin The Shot

Spin-The-Shot-Drinking-Game-1

Spin the bottle was one of our favorite childhood games, and the folks at Barbuzzo have just introduced a modified version for adults aptly called Spin The Shot. As you can easily guess from looking at the device, this game is just like spin the bottle, but without the middle school kissing. Unless of course you want to make your own rules. Simply pour a shot of your favorite good stuff into the provided shot glass, spin the wheel, and whomever the arrow lands on must take a shot.

Scientists Can Have Fun Too.

No matter what your profession, people always like to try and a little fun at the work place, and scientists are no different.  You’ll always have your pranksters, and the co-workers who like to have a laugh at someone else’s expense, but sometimes people can take things a bit too far… Enter the pneumatic cannon.

A pneumatic cannon is a pipe-based weapon which uses air pressure (pneumatic), propellant, or propane/gas, or combustion of a gaseous fuel, to launch projectiles at high speeds. First invented during the 1980s by Conor Conor Gaul the popularity of the pneumatic cannon is widespread. They are built to fire all sorts of projectiles, not always for practical use. The projectile can be dangerous and result in life-threatening injuries, including cranial fractures, if a person is hit.

Long story short, if you point a pneumatic cannon large enough at a person… you’re going to mess someone up.  The guy in this video is pure proof of that.

A Report On The Massive Shooting In Oakland.

In Oakland, a hail of gunfire along an the street left eight people wounded, including a 1-year-old boy and a woman who authorities say were hospitalized in critical condition.  The gunfire broke out Monday evening in a liquor store parking lot after a crowd had gathered, police said. The victims were transported to local hospitals by others at the scene before officers arrived to find dozens of bullet casings.  The 1-year-old’s father also was shot, but relatives told KTVU-TV he was able to drive his son to the hospital, where surgeons were trying to relieve swelling on the toddler’s brain.  “We are aware of a 1-year-old boy who was shot – possibly in the head – in critical condition right now,” Oakland Police Lt. Robert Chan told the station. Children’s Hospital Oakland declined to release any details about the child.  The shootings just after 6 p.m. happened near Interstate 880 in the city’s West Oakland neighborhood, police officer Johnna Watson said.  Watson said six of the victims suffered non-life-threatening injuries.  Investigators were seeking multiple shooters, but further details on suspects or a motive were not immediately available.  Television footage showed a van belonging to Oakland rapper Kafani that was riddled with bullet holes and had apparently taken some of the victims to the hospital.

Kafani & DJ Storm

The rapper, who goes by the name Kafani, posted to Twitter on Monday that he had not been shot but to pray for his little cousin. He said news reports that he had been filming a music video when the shooting took place were incorrect.

Asher Roth – Gotta Get Up.

I’ve been a big fan of Asher Roth since “I Love College” back in the day, and I’ve kept up with his career moves ever since.  The song “Gotta Get Up” was always one I thought would do well with a full video behind it, but I never expected anything as dope as this.  Asher teamed up with Luke Tedaldi to create the visually stunning “Gotta Get Up” video.  The video was shot HDR, and isn’t a digital video spliced together, instead it’s 55,000 still frames (pictures) one after another, brilliantly edited that gives “Gotta Get Up” its incredible visual edge.  Check the method.

R.I.P. DJ Megatron.

TV and Radio personality DJ Megratron, whose given name was Corey McGriff, was shot in Staten Island at about 2 a.m. and pronounced dead on the scene a short time later.  The Staten Island resident had just moved to a new house and his girlfriend recently gave birth to his third child.  “Everybody is shocked,” said a close friend who asked not be identified. “He just had a new baby. He wasn’t feuding with anybody. Everybody liked him.”  His buddy said it was normal for Megatron to get back to Staten Island around 2 or 3 in the morning after working at a club or music event.

“I’m still shocked that somebody killed him,” he said. “I can’t even understand why. It could be somebody that he didn’t even know. At that time of the night people do all kinds of crazy things.  I can’t see it being a personal thing because I don’t know of anybody who had a personal issue with him,” he added. “But at the same time, when you start getting success you have people who don’t necessarily like that.”  Law enforcement officials would not immediately confirm McGriff’s identity. A police source said detectives have thus far not been able to track down an eyewitness to the murder.

Keith Robinson, who identified himself as Megatron’s father-in-law, said his family was distraught.  “He was a good person,” Robinson said, visibly upset, “Everyone’s just shocked.”  The Staten Island performer was a regular on BET’s “106th and Park,” and worked on HOT 97 two years ago.  A friend who arrived at the scene at about 4 a.m. said she talked to him a few hours earlier. “He just called me,” Lisa Torres said, “He asked me if I was going to [a friend’s] party.”  She became inconsolable as the news sank in.  “He’s right there on the ground. I can’t believe this,” she screamed as she broke down in tears. “You’re lying, you’re lying! That’s not Megatron right there!”

A very sad story, and a tragic end to someone who’s talent has touched not only my life, but has undoubtedly helped shape the styles of many Hip Hop DJ’s.  Rest in piece DJ Megatron.
