Michael B. Jordan Will Be ‘Raising Dion’.

Netflix is doubling down on the superhero genre and they’re looking to tell original stories outside of their Marvel Netflix shows.  However, they’re turning to a Marvel Studios actor to spearhead their latest project.  Michael B. Jordan will co-star and executive produce a 10-episode series titled Raising Dion. The series will be based on a 2015 short film of the same name, which you can check out below. This short was created by music video director Dennis Liu (Sia – You’ve Changed, Justin Timberlake – Not A Bad Thing) who provided an official statement in a press release.

I started this project many years ago because I wanted to see more diverse representation on film and television and I’m excited to partner with Netflix and MACRO, who I know shares that commitment. More than ever, we need more stories told from different points of view and my hope with Raising Dion is to create a cinematic experience for all families that will lift your spirits and make you laugh and cry.

Street Fighter Motion Sculptures | 2013

For Dan the Ad Man – an Ireland-based video director and art director — the desire to learn CINEMA 4D and Vray in his spare time lead to an inventive, pop-culture influenced dimensional short film. Building on the characters within the iconic Street Fighter 2 video game, Dan was able to render dimensional executions of each character into a video that is set to sampled Capcom’s Street Fighter 2 in-game sound effects. Blending his personal passion in the world of 4D graphics with the nostalgia of one of his favorite video games, the Street Fighter Motion Sculptures video renderings represent the colors, moves and shapes of a variety of the game’s characters.

Check out the hilarious short film, The Female Orgasm Law. At a town hall meeting, men are freaking out that a new law has been passed. This short film was directed by  Dane Hanson and written by Dane Hanson & Olivia Hoffman. It also starred Olivia Hoffman, Sarah Kauffman, Dane Hanson, Arjun Gupta (Nurse Jackie), Hunt Eldridge, Ed Stelz and Aaron O’Leary. It was played at the 2012 Friar’s Club Comedy Film Festival, LA Comedy Fest and the Big Apple Film Festival. The short film even took home the Audience Award at Friar’s Club.  Enjoy.

Pixels by Patrick Jean.

Unique content is relatively hard to find now a days in films.  Be it short films, feature length, or independent, ideas just tend to be regurgitated every so often.  But the film Pixels by Patrick Jean is something that just struck me as wildly original.  Witness the invasion of New York City by all manner of digital creatures below.

Ice Age: Continental Drift.

Many many moons ago, (about 4 years) I went to the movies with a close friend of mine, the photographer Audrey Amelie to see Ice Age 2: The Meltdown, and I had an amazing time.  Ever since then I have a really positive association with anything Ice Age, and since the first time I saw the new short called “Scrat’s Continental Crack-Up”, I’m pretty sure I’ve watched it no less than 65 times.  The short is almost like a DVD bonus movies that you get now a days, and features Scrat doing what he does best, freaking out, and chasing a single acorn.  For those of you who have never seen any of the Ice Age movies, Scrat (pictured above) is a character who’s story line in the movies is totally separate from anything else going on in the movie, but as the movie progresses, his story always aligns with the main story arc.  So it’s interesting that he was given his own moment in the spotlight, and although it’s relatively short, it’s still quite enjoyable.  (And one of the few family friendly things on this blog.)  Click the picture to watch the movie.
