Big Ups To Big Sean.

This week, the LA Leakers on Los Angeles’ hit station Power 106 had on the iconic Big Sean for a sit down session. The Detroit rapper came with nothing but his best to discuss topics like his ability to provide for his family, his hunger and drive, and his closeness to Kobe Bryant. Spitting bars over ‘Hurricane’ from Kanye West (who’s about to change his legal name to Ye… But that’s a topic for a different post) and Drake’s ‘All Love’. The lyrics have to be heard to be absorbed, so take a look at the nearly 9 MINUTE freestyle session in the video below.

Take A Trip To The Muzic Zoo.

logo

It’s a little know fact that I have an affinity for zoo’s, (and a widely known fact that I have an undying love for music), so following an online presence titled “Muzic Zoo” should have occurred to me earlier.  The site features an incredible range of artists, from global stars to independent new comers, and puts their music on display for the public to rate, comment on, and support the artists of their choosing.  MZ’s interview section is also a fantastic way to get a unique perspective on the artists coming up in the charts via exclusive interviews.  The content on Muzic Zoo is updated daily, so there’s always something fresh.  Check them out by clicking any of the photos.

Throwback Music Video: Angie Martinez ft. Q-Tip – Dem Thangs.

irGrowing up in Jersey, Hot 97 was always the station playing in the car, or on the radio at home.  Anyone who’s familiar with New York’s biggest radio station knows that you can’t listen for too long without hearing the voice of Angie Martinez.  She’s blessed the radio with her talent for years, but in 2001, she took to making music of her own, and put out the single Dem Thangs, featuring Q-Tip.  No matter where in New York you go, if the people you’re with are of the right age, they’ll know this track as soon as it starts.

Garrion Black – Clarity Remix.

Artwork by ForrDesign

The ‘Dark Ice Cream’ EP peaked in success around 2.2 million downloads a few weeks ago, and Jeff Phantom, Rich Lyfestyle, Joe Major, Clayton William and myself couldn’t have been more pleased.  But with the success of the 5 track production, now comes the first remix of our remix.  The ‘Clarity’ remix, a track conceptualized by DJ Jeff Phantom and Rich Lyfestyle, had recently had some hip-hop pumped into its veins by Garrison Black, and the artwork conceptualized by ForrDesign demonstrates the new life of the song.  The multifaceted artist added his piece to the trap remix in spectacular fashion, and even cleverly shouted out every track on ‘Dark Ice Cream’ showing lyrical skill other emcees should be jealous of.  Click the pic above to download the new version via SoundCloud.

Myspace Run $20 Million Campaign for Relaunch

myspace-01-22

Now that Myspace is back and open to the public once again, they’re keen to make sure everyone knows about it by running a $20 million ad campaign that will span broadcast, radio and digital platforms. The campaign is the beginning of an effort for the once-dominant social network to climb back to the top, but co-owner Chris Vanderhook knows it’s not going to be easy, recognising that “no fancy marketing campaign” will change Myspace’s image overnight. The television spot will feature a party scene with Pharrell, Sky Ferreira, RiFF RaFF, and more… Do you think Myspace are going to make a comeback?

Renault Twizy Sport F1 Electric Concept

general 01

Renault represented their latest concept – the Twizy Sport F1 – which was designed to crank up the performance of your average electric car with its kinetic energy recovery system (KERS), similar to that used in its formula 1 race cars. The result is six times the power output — almost 100 horsepower — which pushes the car from 0-62 in the same time as the Renault Mégane Renaultsport 265. As for the exterior, the futuristic Twizy looks like a curious mix between a smart car, lunar rover, and bobcat construction vehicle and features a front splitter, side-pods, rear wing, and a diffuser with an F1-style rain light. This light is controlled with a colorful gamepad-like steering wheel on the inside, which also controls the KERS, radio and rain light.

Justin Timberlake – Suit And Tie ft. JAY Z

justin-timberlake-suit-tie-lyric-video-600x337

Timberlake’s new single, “Suit & Tie,” featuring Jay-Z, has already broken records. The song debuted at No. 14 on Billboard’s Pop Songs chart and broke the record for the most first-week plays on the radio in the chart’s 20-year history. “Suit” was played 6,045 times in between Jan. 14 and Jan. 21 and beat the previous record holder, Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way,” that had 4,602 plays when it was debuted. “Suit & Tie” is Timberlake’s first release since “FutureSex/LoveSounds” in 2006. It gives you a taste of his new album, “The 20/20 Experience,” that was produced by Timbaland.

T.I. Interview With Cipha Sounds And Rosenberg.

In this interview, T.I. talks about his book, music, family and hidden racism with HOT 97′s Cipha Sounds, Rosenberg & K.Foxx.

Used As Read.

Is your phone a camera or the camera your digital player as well?  Confused?  You ought to be.  As newer generations in gadgets and devices come out, the clear demarcation of their lineage gets blurry for the sake of multi-functionality. In the name of salvaging individual identity, “mintselect @ mintpass” has designed a range of devices in the typographical form of their function. Called the “Used as Read” series, the stackable lineup includes a speaker, a remote control, a woofer, a music player and amp, a radio and a lamp.

Jay-Z Performs ‘Public Service Announcement’ At Carnegie Hall.

Amex has recently unveiled previously unseen footage of Jay Z performing his Black Album cut “Public Service Announcement (Interlude)” during his gig at Carnegie Hall back in February.  This further serves to whet apetites for his upcoming interactive concert at next weeks SXSW and, of course, for the UK based readers his ever approaching Watch The Throne tour. It has also recently been announced that the superstar will be headlining BBC Radio 1′s Hackney weekend.  Excited is an understatement.

Emilio Rojas – Showoff (Radio Freestyle).

Radio freestyles are a dime a dozen, and it takes something quite substantial to make one stand out now a days. But the emcee Emilio Rojas spoke some memorable lines in a way that I haven’t seen in quite some time. Check the method below.

Prodigy Of Mobb Deep Talk Beef With Jay-Z, Tupac, & Saigon.

Hot 97 is known for having some pretty revealing interviews that people listen to for years afterwards, and the interview with Prodigy of Mobb Deep is no different.  I’ve been a fan of the M.O.B.B. for a long time, but I had no idea about Prodigy’s run-ins with Jay-Z, Pac or Saigon.  Check the video below to hear what he had to say.

Heidi Dupre.

The ever so lovely Heidi Dupre is a model living in LA.  She is an aspiring singer who has actually recorded a few songs.  When she’s not working, she enjoys traveling reading, and fashion shows.  But she’s not all about relaxation.  Her resume hold some pretty impressive projects including being a Lowrider Cover model for August 2008, she’s been seen in Streetlow Magazine (issue 52), and a slew of other magazines.  She’s danced on Telemundo, and been on Playboy Radio.

T.I.’s First Interview Out Of Jail.

I respect anyone that can get up and admit when they’ve made a mistake, but you keep making the same mistake over and over, you better come back with a damn good apology.  That being said I was very interested to hear what T.I. would have to say on his first interview back from the slammer.  Check it out below.

Carmel Candy on ‘This Is 50’.

In the entertainment industry, the only thing better than success is seeing people around you doing big things.  From Tokyo 24, to b.FUNK, it seems everyone I talk to is making huge strides, and Carmel Candy is no different.  The UK model has been state side since June, and has been tearing up the east coast from the minute she stepped foot in the US.  Check out her interview on This Is 50 Radio, when even Fif himself pops in to say a few words.

Meek Mills & Rick Ross Talk Music.

You have to admit that when certain artists start their careers, you never know what direction they’ll go in. In 05, I never really pictured Rick Ross having as stellar as a career as he’s undeniably having right now. But with hit after hit, he’s locked down a solid spot in Rap infamy. And with the advent of “Maybach Music” he’s bringing people like Meek Mills along for the ride with him. So when Rick and Mills got on the mic to speak about their ‘I’m A Boss’ remix, I was listening intently. Check the method.

The Apple Macmini Radio.

Apple freaks know pretty well that Jobs doesn’t indulge in concepts. Which is why any nugget that comes our way, we lap it up like starving puppies. Who wouldn’t love having this stackable Radio and Speaker System for Macmini on their table? Specs like Internet radio with access to about 10,000 stations worldwide, 2 front and 3 rear extra USBs and multi card reader, makes it a delectable item. Superb sound quality and quite sexy indeed.

R.I.P. DJ Megatron.

TV and Radio personality DJ Megratron, whose given name was Corey McGriff, was shot in Staten Island at about 2 a.m. and pronounced dead on the scene a short time later.  The Staten Island resident had just moved to a new house and his girlfriend recently gave birth to his third child.  “Everybody is shocked,” said a close friend who asked not be identified. “He just had a new baby. He wasn’t feuding with anybody. Everybody liked him.”  His buddy said it was normal for Megatron to get back to Staten Island around 2 or 3 in the morning after working at a club or music event.

“I’m still shocked that somebody killed him,” he said. “I can’t even understand why. It could be somebody that he didn’t even know. At that time of the night people do all kinds of crazy things.  I can’t see it being a personal thing because I don’t know of anybody who had a personal issue with him,” he added. “But at the same time, when you start getting success you have people who don’t necessarily like that.”  Law enforcement officials would not immediately confirm McGriff’s identity. A police source said detectives have thus far not been able to track down an eyewitness to the murder.

Keith Robinson, who identified himself as Megatron’s father-in-law, said his family was distraught.  “He was a good person,” Robinson said, visibly upset, “Everyone’s just shocked.”  The Staten Island performer was a regular on BET’s “106th and Park,” and worked on HOT 97 two years ago.  A friend who arrived at the scene at about 4 a.m. said she talked to him a few hours earlier. “He just called me,” Lisa Torres said, “He asked me if I was going to [a friend’s] party.”  She became inconsolable as the news sank in.  “He’s right there on the ground. I can’t believe this,” she screamed as she broke down in tears. “You’re lying, you’re lying! That’s not Megatron right there!”

A very sad story, and a tragic end to someone who’s talent has touched not only my life, but has undoubtedly helped shape the styles of many Hip Hop DJ’s.  Rest in piece DJ Megatron.

NLA.

So every since the turn of the new year, promoters, and DJ’s alike have been asking me where I get all my drops from.  For those of you outside the club scene, a drop is like your signature if your a DJ, they aren’t easy to make on your own, and if they don’t sound right, its hard to take someone seriously as a professional.  But luckily my boys over at Night Life Audio have been hooking it up with high quality services for respectable prices.  I’ve ordered custom drops from everything to whole mix CD’s, to one-time party ads, and everything has been better than perfect.  Super quick turnaround time, and I always have people in the clubs asking me where I got the drops.  But better than that, NLA has many more services up its sleeve, they specialize in work for Radio, Bands, Video, and all ranges of musical advertising.  Check their website here, and just remember anytime you hear a drop from me in a party, it came from NLA.
