The Only Thing That Seems To Be United This Year Is Music.

Every year since 2007, DJ Earworm has taken the calendar year’s 25 biggest pop songs and combined them into an incredibly popular, joyfully constructed mash-up, perennially dubbed the “United State of Pop.” Earworm has been analyzing the Billboard charts since he was a kid, and for “Do What You Wanna Do,” the 2014 edition of Earworm’s single-length mega-mix. Check the method.

Pitbull feat. Ke$ha – Timber

Pitbull-feat.-Ke_ha---Timber

“Timber” by Pitbull ft. Kesha is a playful mashup of what sounds like folk country tunes with dance music. It sounds as if a harmonica is playing in the background, slightly reminiscent musically of “Cotton Eye Joe” but peformed in the uniqueness of Pitbull & Ke$ha. The song talks about dancing and having fun, which would make it a strong musical candidate to play at a party and/or a club.

Most Rappers Are Lying About Their Money

From expensive clothes to gaudy chains and customized rides, wealth has always been a major talking point in the hip-hop community – especially in rap lyrics. As Jay-Z chides on Magna Carta… Holy Grail‘s “Versus” track, “The truth in my verses versus your metaphors about what your net worth is.” Thus, Businessweek recently launched an inside look into hip-hop’s dubious tales of extraordinary wealth. The results confirm Hov’s skepticism of rap’s tried-and-true rags-to-riches narrative – one in which Jay has taken part in the truest sense while others’ claims to a cache of prosperity are, in truth, mostly unrealized. Here, Businessweek hilariously ousts some of the industry’s worst offenders – and most “humble” lyricists – with a telling “Actual Wealth vs. Alleged Wealth” comparison.

Pitbull “Welcome 2 Dade County”

Miami based rapper Pitbull decides to let loose on Lil Wayne after the YMCMB rapper took shots at his home town. Although he was one the rappers we least expected to return shots, Pitbull is taking shots at Weezy on his latest remix to “Harlem Shake” in a track he called ‘Welcome 2 Dade County.’  “I’m self-made, I’m self-paid / I grew up with no daddy, I’m from Miami-Dade,” Pitbull spits on the track. “It’s a deposition / Watch what you speak / Who’s the definition of Miami?  Me / I move cultures, don’t believe me? / Watch and see.”

This isn’t only time Pitbull mentions Cash Money on the track either. The rapper also opens up about Cash Money co-founders Birdman and Slim, alluding to them being the ones making money off of Wayne’s success. “You got money, yeah that’s sweet / But we all know Slim and Baby really eat / You talk Miami, yes you talkin’ Heat / Moral of the story, don’t shit where you eat.”

Help Exile Pitbull

Pitbull may be headed to a Walmart on the secluded island of Kodiak, Alaska, reports the Associated Press. As part of a marketing deal, Walmart plans to send the reggaeton star to the store that lands the most “likes” on its Facebook page by July 16th. However, David Thorpe, a writer for the Boston Phoenix and the popular humor website SomethingAwful.com, found it entertaining to campaign to send Pitbull to the most isolated store possible by pushing the Kodiak location and rallying the Internet to swarm its Facebook page with “likes.” As of today, it had surpassed 35,000 “likes” and spawned a rather successful Twitter campaign called #ExilePitbull.

For his part, Pitbull remains a good sport, tweeting, “I hear there’s bear repellant at Kodiak, Alaska” and adding the #ExilePitbull hashtag. “Wherever the fans want to have a party, I will be there,” he added in an emailed statement.
