One Of The Strangest Things To Hit The Streets.

The Slingshot R is a true showstopper. It’s the ultimate statement, with an enhanced, bold paint scheme and the best in features and style. The Slingshot R comes with additional horsepower, paddle shifters (AutoDrive), unparalleled finishes and styling, and Technology Package 3 featuring turn-by-turn navigation and connected services. Settle for nothing but the best with the Slingshot R. The next time you see someone driving around in a Polaris Slingshot, don’t snicker: They’re probably having a lot more fun behind the wheel than you are. I would know, because I used to be a dyed-in-the-wool Slingshot hater. However, after a week using one as a daily runabout, I have a new appreciation for the three-wheeler’s emphasis on driving excitement at all costs, even if it does require significant compromises.

The 2021 Polaris Slingshot R represents the best of the breed, with updates for this model year that include a Rockford Fosgate audio system with standard Apple CarPlay, revised styling, and an optional “Autodrive” transmission with paddle shifters. However, my tester was equipped with the standard five-speed manual gearbox, a must for maximum driver enjoyment. Of course, not even those updates can compensate fully for the Slingshot’s tiny footprint and attendant compromises – namely a lack of storage space and limited weather protection – so Polaris is still cautious to market the cyclecar as a weekend toy, not a daily driver.

The British car maker is sourcing Kodewa for the build (the same people that built the Lotus Le Mans car), and have teamed up with German concept designer Daniel Simon (the same man behind Tron: Legacy) for that beautiful carbon fiber and titanium constructed body. As expected, the bike will be extremely limited (100 units in total), and there will be customization options for clients. The bike is said to be equipped with a four-stroke 1195cc V-twin engine cranking out 200 horsepower, all in a motorcycle with a curb weight just under 400 pounds.

Ducati Monster 900 By Hazan Motorworks

Taking a minimalistic approach to the build, Hazan replaced quite a few components on the bike while still keeping things simple. Aside from the engine, wheels, and half of the frame, everything else was swapped out. The entire original rear section of the motorcycle was chopped off, and Hazan handmade a new one along with a rear mudguard, rear cowl, custom fuel tank, spartan foam seat, Harley-Davidson headlight, and a whole lot more. On the performance side of things, this Ducati had its carbs rejetted, and has been equipped with an open intake to replace the standard airbox, custom headers, and carbon exhausts.

Art Deco 1930 KJ Henderson Custom Motorcycle

Looking like a cross between something you’d find in a museum and something you’d find in the Batcave, this custom-made 1930 KJ Henderson Custom is the pride and joy of one Frank Westfall of Syracuse, NY. Underneath all that homespun bodywork is an inline-4 air-cooled engine, though reportedly it’s a little tough to handle. No matter, because really, the less time this beauty has to spend near careless drivers the better. Among the changes Frank made were taking the bike’s original two-tone color scheme and instead going all black. It was first unveiled at the Rhinebeck Grand National Meet in 2010, and the ooh-and-ahh reverberations are still being felt.

BMW Concept 90

In celebration of 90 years of BMW Motorrad along with 40 years of the iconic R 90 S, BMW chose the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este 2013 as the stage to unveil its modernized version of the classic motorcycle — the BMW Concept 90. Teaming up with Roland Sands Design ‘RSD,’ the Concept 90 pays homage to BMW’s bike of the ’70s, most noticeably with the use of the original Daytona Orange paint. The Concept 90 further translates the essence of the R 90 S in the faring, fuel tank and rear portions of the updated bike. To rejuvenate the bike’s design, halogen lighting was swapped with a BMW LED headlamp and a plethora of customs parts were crafted for the project.

2013 Ducati 1199 Panigale R

Ducati has unveiled the 2013 Ducati 1199 Panigale R as part of 2013 lineup. Through the use of carbon fiber body parts, lightweight flywheel and lower curb weight the Ducati has differentiated this model from predecessors. Besides that this model will house 195hp engine with the capacity of 12,000 rpm.

Cafe Racer Dreams.

The trend for customizing 1970s and 1980s motorcycles continues. The blinged-out chopper with raked forks and shiny paint is officially dead; Today, customers are demanding sleek, minimal café racers. The shift was inspired a few years ago by workshops such as Denmark’s Wrenchmonkees. Today, builders like Café Racer Dreams located in Spain are buying up and stripping down old Hondas and BMWs. The electrics are hidden—even the battery—to throw focus on the mechanical components. The brown, gold and black color scheme is low-key but luxurious, like a fine piece of leatherwork. Unlike many builders, Pedro Garcia of CRD is not a one-trick-pony. His latest creation is a 1971 BMW R75/5  converted for dual sport use. When not being ridden around the streets of Paris by its new owner, it’s blasting down fire trails and kicking up dust.

Futuristic Bike “The Detonator”.

The Cosmic Motors Detonator is an unique concept created by German automotive futurist Daniel Simon for his futuristic vehicle design company, “Cosmic Motors”. Simon calls this futuristic bike a “street cruiser bike built for humanoid droids.” Simon obtained his degree in vehicle design in 2001 at the University of Applied Science in Pforzheim, Germany. After completion, Simon went to Barcelona and designed concept cars for Bugatti and Lamborghini, followed by five years at the VW Group’s Advanced Studio where he is currently designing virtual vehicles for his brand Cosmic Motors. He has published a book, “Comic Motors” and continues to offer his services to premium carmakers while designing his own concepts.
