‘Spiderman: Across The Spiderverse’.

With all the DC news popping off recently, us comic book fans can’t can’t ever deny that Marvel always seems to have one in the chamber.  While the constant speculation over “No Way Home” has been at a fever pitch since the first look at the first bits of the first trailer LEAKED on someone’s cell phone… (yes, people have been throwing theories like frisbees since then.) we now have something different look forward to.  One of the best reviewed Spiderman films since 2006’s ‘Spiderman 2’, “Into The Spiderverse” put us in an entirely different pair of shoes when it came to the much loved protagonist.  Instead of following Peter Parker, “Into The Spiderverse” features the newer Miles Morales version of Spiderman (among a few others).  While Morales was hinted at in ‘Spiderman: Homecoming’, he was in full force in his own film, which not has an official release window, and titles.  No one knew that the next Spiderman news to rock the internet would have NOTHING to do with the 2023 sequel “Across The Spiderverse” but we’re happy that it is. For those of you were are oblivious to the WONDER that was “Into The Spiderverse”, take a look at what ‘WIRED’ dug up on how the original was created.

‘Iron Fist’ Officially Suits Up.

The marketing for the second season of Marvel’s Iron Fist has now kicked into high gear, as Danny Rand’s sophomore solo outing is set to hit Netflix early next month.  On the heels of the full trailer and a new poster, Netflix has debuted this banner which features Danny (Finn Jones) wearing his proto-Iron Fist costume. Though many fans would much rather see him jump straight into the classic comic outfit, Matt Murdock went through the same process in season 1 of Daredevil and everything worked out just fine. Granted, his all-black ensemble did look quite a bit cooler than this.

Avengers Infinity War: Day One Documentary.

ne2lg0p3c84v53_1_b

To the closer followers of Marvel, and the mechanics behind their super hero films, Christmas came early last night when Marvel released a short “documentary” about Avengers Infinity War.  The video is quite informative, and gives the laymen some news they will be excited about, and the comic book connoisseur some things to be excited about.  (Why doesn’t Thor have his Hammer, and are Tony’s new suits automated, or is building them for himself.)  Regardless of how deep movie goers get into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the video below provides a very interesting look into the 3rd Avengers installment.

Take The First Look At Luke Cage.

luke-cage-head

The trailer below may not necessarily be the FIRST look at the mighty Luke Cage, seeing as we got watch him tear things up in Netflix’s Jessica Jones.  There was also a brief teaser of him tearing through a gang of thugs from Comic-Con 2016, which was amazing. This however is the first look at our hero, the story we’ll be getting in the series, and the world he’s be fighting through. So get your first expansive look into the new Luke Cage series.

The Road To ‘Civil War’.

Captain+America-+Civil+War

The American Civil War… just kidding.  This has nothing to do with any of that.  I had the incredible opportunity to see Captain America: Civil War today, and I will not spoil anything.  However before I hit the secret Disney/Marvel screening, I took a look at a YouTube playlist of all the current Marvel Cinematic Universe trailers (which you can find here), and in the process, I stumbled across a video from the amazing editors at ‘MCU Exchange’ titled “Road To Civil War”.  This is a wonderfully put together 7 minute video that shows the progression of the MCU up until Captain America: Civil War.  Check out the complete wrap up below. Civil War hits theaters on Thursday May 5th in the U.S.

Marvel Comics, has been knocking pretty much anything they do out of the park over recent years, be it movies, comic re-telling, and now marketing.  It would be a bit difficult to conceive of Marvel heroes crossing into the rap game, but Axel Alonso, editor in chief of Marvel, and his team of artists conceived of variant covers in order to generate buzz for over fifty No.1 issues that Marvel started releasing last month.  These cover take popular and iconic hip hop covers, and give them a Marvel twist.  Check the method, and NOTE: The collection is so vast, we had to split this up into two posts.

Take A New Look At The Suicide Squad.

tt

DC’s Suicide Squad has been a primary source of interest since 2015’s Comic-Con reveal.  A few days after the release of their character posters for the film, DC and the powers that be have revealed a new trailer, showing off tons of new footage, and a bit more of the story.  Lets start with the negative (simply because there isn’t much of it.)  The CG doesn’t seem complete, and could be better in certain shots, specifically in regards to El Diablo.  Thats really about it.  You get more well rounded view of all the characters, and their individual roles with the exception of the Joker.  It appears as if Joker isn’t the only advisory if he’s an advisory at all, and he gets a bit more screen time than the previous footage.  Both “Mr. J” and Harley Quinn steal the show, with Joker doing his famous laugh while laying amongst a kaleidoscope of knives, and Harley giving an amazing line about the voices in her head.  Check the trailer below.

Flemish Superheroes

Artist and Costume designer Jackie Tadeoni takes a new spin on superheroes costumes in Flemish style.

What if Superman was born in the sixteenth century?
And what if the Hulk was a Duke?
How might Van Eyck have portrayed Snow White?

The collection demonstrates the use of 17 century techniques counterpointing light and shadow to illustrate nobility and fragility of the super powerful of all times. It also invites you to celebrate the heroes of your childhood. These characters have become icons to reveal their humanity: tired of having to save the world without respite, promised to a destiny of endless immortality, forever trapped in their character.
The superheroes often live their lives cloaked in anonymity. These portraits give them a chance to « fix » their narcissism denied. By the temporal disturbance they produce, these images allow us to discover, under the patina of time, an unexpected melancholy of those who are to be invincible.

As science fiction meets history of art, time meets an inexhaustible desire for mythology which is within each of us.

Spiderman Is Officially Joining The Marvel Cinematic Universe.

sp5

Marvel and Sony have announced a partnership that will officially bring Spider-Man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The deal calls for “the new Spider-Man” (as the press release describes him) to first appear in an upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe film – though which film that will be is not named. Spider-Man will then star in his own new film, released by Sony, opening July 28th, 2017, which will be produced by Marvel’s Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal, who just stepped down as co-chairman of Sony.

The press release notes that Feige and Pascal “will collaborate on a new creative direction for the web slinger.” Sony Pictures will continue to finance, distribute, own and have final creative control of the Spider-Man films, though Feige’s involvement as a producer seems to indicate Marvel is heavily involved in the films now.

Fans will also be happy to hear that Marvel and Sony “are also exploring opportunities to integrate characters from the MCU into future Spider-Man films,” which would indicate when Spider-Man gets his own solo films again, he’ll still likely be able to interact with MCU characters he’ll be seen with in the Marvel/Disney-distributed films.

scan0019-1

During the Sony hacks late last year, leaked emails revealed conversations between Marvel and Sony about this possibility that ultimately didn’t come to fruition. At the time, it was said the plan was for Spider-Man to be introduced into the MCU in Captain America: Civil War. That film will begin production soon, so it remains to be seen if Spider-Man will be included there or if his debut is saved for a different MCU film.

The announcement and Pascal’s involvement comes in the same week it was revealed she would be stepping down from her co-chairman position, in the wake of those hacks.  In the press release, Feige praises Pascal, stating, “I am thrilled to team with my friends at Sony Pictures along with Amy Pascal to produce the next Spider-Man movie. Amy has been deeply involved in the realization on film of one of the world’s most beloved characters. Marvel’s involvement will hopefully deliver the creative continuity and authenticity that fans demand from the MCU. I am equally excited for the opportunity to have Spider-Man appear in the MCU, something which both we at Marvel, and fans alike, have been looking forward to for years.”

For those wondering if there’s any possibility of a different person – say Miles Morales – behind the Spider-Man mask this time, Sony’s Doug Belgrad’s statement puts an end to that speculation. Says Belgrad, “Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios share a love for the characters in the Spider-Man universe and have a long, successful history of working together. This new level of collaboration is the perfect way to take Peter Parker’s story into the future.”  Says Sony’s Michael Lynton, of the long hoped-for deal, “This is the right decision for the franchise, for our business, for Marvel, and for the fans.”

A Marvelous Movie Montage.

The-Avengers-Age-Of-Ultron-2015-Marvel-Poster-Wallpaper

There is no other place where you can get the latest and greatest exclusive looks at new comic movie material than Comic-Con, and this year, I had no access to the internet (due to me traveling on the open seas).  Upon my return to dry land, I promptly searched the interwebs for new previews I’d missed, and ended up finding a recap of things already seen.  Marvel’s Phase 1, and Phase 2, were re-visted in a special presentation in Hall H of Comic-Con, and believe me, this is a movie montage for the ages.  Check the method below.

Guardians of the Galaxy Official Trailer.

guardiansofgalaxylarge1Every child at some point envisions themselves as a superhero at one point in their young lives.  The thrill of being adventurous, and saving the world is something an imaginative mind cannot resist.  Later on in life, people realize that heroes are flawed, and that the hero they thought they could be is a different from the hero they may actually be like the most.  Guardians of the Galaxy is Marvel Studios newest addition to the “Phase 2” line up.  A rag-tag band of misfits who come together under inopportune circumstances has to save the galaxy after their leader steals an object of incredible power.  Marvel’s plan is to use this film to introduce viewers to Thanos (The big purple guy at the end of Avengers), and you can see the link through ‘The Collector’, who appears in the trailer below, and in the post credits scene proceeding Thor 2.  But after reading much more of Marvel’s comics, I’m starting to realize that as much as I admired Tony Stark, I may in fact have more similar personality traits to Star Lord. #frown.  Check out the first trailer for Marvel’s ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ below.

The Order of X’ reimagines Marvel’s famous mutant superheroes as medieval characters. Wolverine is now Wolve’Rune, Professor X is Lord Xavier, and so forth. As Nate Hallinan sees it in the fan-fiction universe he’s created, ”The Order of X is a group of ‘gifted’ individuals in the service of Lord Charles Xavier. The Order provides sanctuary and protection to individuals outcast by society due to their innate abnormalities. These people are often misidentified as monsters, demons, warlocks and witches”.

James Spader Cast as Lead Villain Ultron in ‘Avengers’ Sequel

1c162764-8066-452c-bf00-b3e7f0c1ea2a_Ultron_JamesSpader

Good news for James Spader – the quirky character actor is coming back in a big way as one of Marvel’s ultimate villains. Spader has just landed the title role in “The Avengers 2: The Age of Ultron,” the upcoming sequel to 2012’s record-setting superhero jamboree. Ultron is an evil robot that can travel through time and uses his talents to change the present so he can have the upper hand in the future. But, departing from the comic, writer-director Joss Whedon plans to strip some of Ultron’s powers for the upcoming film. “I knew right away what I wanted to do with him,” Whedon recently told Entertainment Weekly. “He’s always trying to destroy the Avengers, godd— it, he’s got a bee in his bonnet. He’s not a happy guy, which means he’s an interesting guy. He’s got pain. And the way that manifests is not going to be standard robot stuff. So we’ll take away some of those powers because at some point everybody becomes magic.” Spader’s Ultron will be making trouble for Marvel’s costumed heroes in the movie, including Iron Man, The Hulk, Captain America, and Thor. However, since Ultron is entirely mechanical, it remains to be seen if Spader will be on set in a suit, interacting with his fellow cast members, or if he’ll be providing the voice for a CGI creation. So far, Marvel and Disney haven’t weighed in on the matter. Whedon first revealed that Ultron would be the main villain in the “Avengers” sequel during his appearance at San Diego Comic-Con in July. And that Spader will be playing a less powerful Ultron, this should give fans plenty of room to speculate on how the writer-director will approach the character, given Spader’s ability to play bad guys who are at once charming and a little creepy.

On Tuesday, Marvel’s Iron Man 3 became Disney’s fifth release to cross the $400 million mark at the domestic box office. The film, which has now earned over $1.2 billion and is the #5 film of all time globally, also recently passed Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides and is currently the #6 film of all time at the international box office with more than $803 million.  After achieving the second-biggest domestic opening in history with $174.1 million, Iron Man 3 crossed the $1 billion threshold globally in 23 days, making it Disney’s sixth billion-dollar and second highest-grossing release of all time, behind only Marvel’s The Avengers.

While doing the research on the box office gross of the latest Ironman film, I came across a small collection done by Marvel in 2010 for ‘Iron Man: Industrial Revolution’ put up by Juan Doe.  Check the epic artwork.

Hot Toys Show Off Their Iron Man Figure Using Holograms

Iron_Man_armor

Hot Toys is most known for creating very detailed and amazing replications of characters from films and the property they’ve spent a lot of time on lately is Iron Man. Showing off some of their latest figures at a trade show in Hong Kong, the company put together this presentation of their Iron Man Mark VII armor from last summer’s The Avengers using some holograms like we would see in Tony Stark’s workshop.

Marvel Studios At Comic Con.

ComicCon was in full effect over the last week, and of course, Marvel Studios blew it out of the water.  Guardians of the Galaxy, coming August 1, 2014 is one of their newest projects along with, test footage displayed for the very first time for Ant-Man, to be directed by Edgar Wright.  With the announcement came the reveal of the first concept art for Guardians of the Galaxy by Charlie Wen, as well as logos for both films.  In addition, Marvel Studios announced the official titles to the Thor and Captain America sequels: Thor: The Dark World, in theaters November 8, 2013, and Captain America: The Winter Soldier, in theaters April 4, 2014.  Check out the all logos, plus the just-released Iron Man 3 logo, below, and also check out the just-launched official Iron Man 3 site by clicking here.

Thanos Gets His Own Comic.

Thanos’ cameo at the end of “Marvel’s The Avengers” was tragically brief, but it’s the start of some beautiful things for the purple-skinned death-worshiper. It’s currently rumored that he’ll have a major role to play in Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” movie, and will appear again in the subsequent “Avengers” sequel. But if that’s far too long for you to wait for your next Thanos fix, never fear: he’s getting his own comic book to help pass the time!

“Hell Yeah” writer Joe Keatinge and “Thor” artist Richard Elson are teaming together for “Thanos: Son of Titan,” a five-issue Marvel Comics miniseries launching in October. According to Keatinge, “Son of Titan” is all about “how Thanos came to be” — the perfect entry point for folks who aren’t already familiar with Thanos’ history at Marvel.

“I don’t go Forrest Gump on it, but aspects of the Marvel Universe have been born that directly turn Thanos into who he is,” Keatinge told USA Today’s Brian Truitt. “He ends up at the point where he’s worshiping Death and destroying universes. How do you get to that head space where you’re like, ‘This is what I want to do with the rest of my life?'”

As for what makes Thanos special, “Son of Titan” editor Stephen Wacker said: “He’s just an evil guy. He wants to rule over things. He wants power. It’s just so over the top and operatic — it’s as if Shakespeare wrote an opera.”

The Fashion Of ‘The Avengers’ For Women.

You know that tingly sensation of awe and excitement you get after seeing a truly great film? Well, besides leaving me with a serious hankering for shawarma, Marvel’s The Avengers definitely gave me that oh-my-gosh-you-guys-let’s-watch-that-again feeling.  I saw the movie a while ago, but I still can’t stop thinking about it all: the epic battle scenes, the hilarious one-liners, Scarlett Johansson, and of course, the style.  I’m not personally big on fashion, but I’m more than appreciative when I see a woman who’s dressed like she knows what she’s doing.  My assistant shot me an email the other day with some excellent fashion suggestions taking their inspiration directly from Marvel’s hit movie.

Captain America/Steve Rogers

Captain America/Steve Rogers, played by Chris Evans, is the First Avenger, born from the country’s efforts to create an army of super-soldiers during World War II. To prevent weapons of mass destruction being dropped on America, he’s forced to crash land his plane in the Arctic.

Discovered by S.H.I.E.L.D. after spending 70 years frozen in the ocean, he awakens in the present day only to be hit with the crushing realization that everything and everyone he knew and held dear in the 1940s is gone. The atrocities of WWII fresh in his mind, he’s left cynical and disillusioned about humanity. Nevertheless, he still believes in serving the greater good and becomes the reluctant leader of the group.

Product Information:  Jacket, Dress, Shoes, Earrings, Ring, Clutch

While any woman would certainly turn heads if they wore a stars-and-stripes unitard to class, it might not be for quite the right reasons.  Instead, channel this stalwart hero with an All-American, 1940s-inspired look that features a chambray shirtdress and brown bomber jacket. Add a modern twist with bold flag-emblazoned booties: if you’re not a fan of the JC Litas, red pumps would also look cute with the outfit. Although Captain America’s vibranium shield isn’t available for purchase, this cute star ring is the next best thing. Retro waves are pretty and polished; plus, they’re all the rage this spring.

Ironman/Tony Stark

Iron Man/Tony Stark, played by Robert Downey Jr., is a self-described “billionaire, genius, playboy philanthropist.” (It’s a very apt description, to be honest.) Stark is far from a team player: he’s arrogant and snarky and often chafes under direction.

Despite his personality faults, it’s impossible to deny his engineering genius. His origins as a superhero were explored in 2008′s Iron Man and 2010′s Iron Man 2. Stark, a wealthy industrialist, has an electromagnet in his chest that prevents a piece of shrapnel from penetrating his heart. The arc reactor that powers the electromagnet also powers the Iron Man suit, a metal exoskeleton that allows Stark to do things such as fly and withstand tremendous trauma.

Product Information: Blazer, Tee, Jeans, Wedges, Necklace, Bracelet, Earrings, Sunglasses

Tony Stark is all about flash and style, so make sure all eyes are on you with this bold metallic look. A sharp burgundy blazer and gold coated jeans resemble his Iron Man suit, while a charcoal burnout tee and dark sunglasses recall Tony’s too-cool-for-school attitude. Sculptural wedges with a metallic detail tie the look together.  No hero’s outfit is complete without accessories, so pile ‘em on! A teal pendant not only provides a nice color contrast to the blazer, but also references Tony’s chestplate. This silver cuff bracelet might not help you suit up, like Tony’s do, but hey, it’s cute.

Thor

Thor, played by Chris Hemsworth, is a demi-god of Asgard. In 2011′s Thor, he was banished to Earth because of his arrogance and warmongering. Now, he returns to our planet to retrieve his renegade adopted brother, Loki, who has grandiose plans to enslave the human race. Thor has sworn to defend Earth, but at the same time is conflicted because the villain is family.

Initially, he and the other Avengers majorly clash due to misunderstanding about their mutual goal.  However, he proves to be an invaluable member of the team, not only because he’s more familiar with Loki’s insanity, but also because he’s the only one with the strength to keep the Hulk under control.

Product information: Top, Skirt, Heels, Cuffs, Earrings, Necklace, RingPhone case

As the god of thunder and lightning, Thor wears lots of metallics, and a silver foil tank is a trendy take on his armor. Translate his flowing garnet cloak into a trendy high-low hem skirt that pairs perfectly with black lace-up heels. I couldn’t find any hammer jewelry, so go for hammered metal accessories like these twin silver cuffs and black choker necklace instead. Golden lighting bolt earrings and a horn ring reference Thor’s godly background and powers.

The Hulk/Bruce Banner

Bruce Banner/Hulk, played by Mark Ruffalo, is a brilliant, mild-mannered scientist whose experiments with gamma radiation went horribly wrong. As a result, when he’s angry, he mutates into “the other guy” — a giant green beast who destroys just about everything in his path. In the film, Nick Fury, director of S.H.I.E.L.D., tries to recruit Banner for his unparalleled knowledge of gamma radiation. It’s been years since his other self has emerged, but Bruce is understandably reluctant to join the mission. Even if his involvement is just in a scientific capacity, he knows that any exposure to battle could cause the unleashing of the Hulk.

Product Information: Blouse, Shorts, Sandals, Necklace, Earrings, Satchel, Nail Polish

Besides a pair of practically indestructible shorts, the Hulk hasn’t got much in the way of uniform. Nevertheless, you can totally channel both the not-so-jolly green giant and his more pleasant alter ego. A trendy mint blouse and lavender cut-offs are a pastel take on the Hulk’s green coloring and purple pants. He goes barefoot, but you can wear minimalist two-strap sandals instead.  Radioactive earrings add a pop of trendy neon and reference the Hulk’s origin. Let’s not leave Bruce Banner out of the equation: add some scholarly details with a navy satchel and a spectacle necklace. Finally, add the sartorial equivalent of  ”Hulk…smash!” with a coat of black shatter polish.

Black Widow/Natasha Romanoff

Black Widow/Natasha Romanoff, played by Scarlett Johansson, is a former KGB assassin turned S.H.I.E.L.D. agent. Though she doesn’t technically have superpowers, she’s been trained as an assassin from an early age. Natasha, who made a brief appearance in Iron Man 2, has nerves of steel and some serious martial arts skills.

Product Information: Jacket, Dress, Heels, Belt, Earrings, Lipstick, Nail Polish

Since Black Widow’s the only woman in the Initiative, I initially wanted to avoid an overly feminine, stereotypical outfit, but in the end, the sultry bandage dress won out. After all, ScarJo does possess famously dangerous curves and there’s no denying Black Widow’s major sex appeal. Toughen up the look with a sharp-shouldered leather jacket and sassy slingbacks that resemble the ones she wears at the beginning of the movie.

Accessorize with scarlet accents: black widow spiders are easily identified by the red hourglass on their midsections, so slip on a red patent belt. Then slick on a coat of crimson Hourglass lipstick and reference Natasha’s mother country with Essie’s “Russian Roulette” nail varnish. These spider earrings might be more reminiscent of another Marvel character, but they’re also sleek enough to be Black-Widow-esque.

Hawkeye/Clint Barton

Clint Barton/Hawkeye, played by Jeremy Renner, is quite the loner: as an expert sniper, he spends a great deal of time perched in the shadows, waiting for his targets. This master marksman has got a neat set of trick arrows (acid, explosive, flare, and boomerang arrows, just to name a few). Hawkeye mostly keeps to himself, but does share a deep, unspoken connection with Black Widow. He made a cameo in Thor.

Product Information: Vest, Tank, Jeans, Boots, Bag, Ring, Necklace, Bracelet

In the original comics, Hawkeye wears a flashy purple and blue suit. While I can see why they toned it down for the movie, it’s actually a pretty fun color scheme for real life. Distressed denim vests are a hot trend this year, and this one pairs perfectly with a cobalt tank and violet skinnies. Buckled ankle boots toughen up the look while a hawk ring and nest pendant add some avian detail.

Between Hawkeye, Katniss, and the ever-popular Legolas, archery is definitely getting its moment in the spotlight. A leather bucket bag is a cute civilian take on Hawkeye’s sheath of arrows, while a golden arrow bangle adds a nice dose of sheen.
