1930 Art Deco Henderson

Picture 17

The motorcycling world loves a ‘barn find’—an old, obscure machine wheeled out of the woodwork for the first time. And this is one of the biggest revelations of recent months. It’s a 1930 Henderson that was customized before WW2 by a fellow called O. Ray Courtney and fitted with ‘streamliner’ bodywork. The art deco influence is obvious; legendary automotive designer Harley Earl could have drawn those curves. It’s all the more unusual because the mechanicals are hidden: even at the height of the Art Deco movement, most motorcycles were a triumph of form over function, with exposed cooling fins, brake drums and suspension springs. The bike is owned by collector Frank Westfall of Syracuse.

Japanese machine shop owner hitoshi takahashi built this 11-meter-tall robotic walking beetle called KABUTOM RX-03. The mobile sculpture, which takes its name from kabuto — a type of rhinoceros beetle typical to Japan — features characteristics typical to the insects like pointing horns and elongated legs. With over 30 moving parts, the machine includes a variety of technological details, such as the ability to shoot steam from the top of its head and its remote controlled legs that can reach speeds up to 4 kilometers per hour. Weighing 17 tons in total, the robot can transport up to seven people with one driver riding on top and six occupants fitting in an internal compartment.

The HYT H1 Hydro Mechanical Watch.

HYT represents a new concept in watchmaking — HYT stands for “Hydro Mechanical Horologists” and the brand will be dedicated to producing watches that not only contain liquid in them but use the liquid for a functional purpose.  HYT claims 7 pending patents for various aspects of the H1, further underscoring the new ground that HYT CEO Vincent Perriard is breaking with this watch.  Coming in three case styles the H1 will be available in titanium, DLC black coated titanium, and 18k red gold. The case will be 48mm wide and 18mm thick.  Of course the most notable aspect of the watch is the luminescent greenish-yellow liquid ring you see around the dial. The H1 uses the liquid to display the hours on a circular tube around the edge of the dial.

The two piston looking devices you see on the bottom of the dial are used to push and pull the liquid to show the time on the scale.  The minutes are displayed on the medium-sized sub dial set near the center-top watch, with a cool paddle-wheel style seconds hand to the left.  On the right you can see there is also a power reserve indicator (65 hours) for the manual-wind mechanical movement.  The HYT H1 watch price is $45,000 for the titanium model (the titanium DLC and red gold models with be meaningfully higher).

Swimming With The Dolphins.

The time I thought about swimming with dolphins, or dolphins swimming in general, it was the last time I watched the “I’m On A Boat” video.  But my assistant shot me an in credible video below of just how you can get yourself so splash like a dolphin for real.  Check the method below, it’s like a real-world Iron-Man flight suit with water.
