Who’s Got The Best Liquor In Cannes?

Remy-Martin-Excellence-Cannes-2014-600x427

An official supplier of the Cannes Film Festival, Rémy Martin is pulling out all the stops for the event this year. For the first time, Rémy Martin is launching a special edition of its XO Excellence cognac honoring the cinematic arts.  One of Remy Martin‘s most prestigious cognacs, XO Excellence is an aromatic combination of floral, fruit and spice notes.  Just as sumptuous as the cognac itself, the decanter for this special edition has a gold coating from its base to its stopper. And, in homage to the Cannes Film Festival, the cognac maker has decorated the neck and label with a subtle black and gold motif echoing a strip of film.  The special edition comes in a gold and black gift box in which the decanter sits atop a red carpet pedestal.  Rémy Martin, one of the world’s most respected cognac brands, transforms grapes from the Grande and Fine Champagne zones into delicate spirits that are prized by aficionados around the world, and particularly in China.

Blood of Grapes Wine Bottle

03

This creative bottle design was created by Belarusian designer, Constantin Bolimond. His idea is based around the concept of wine as the blood of grapes. The striking form is themed off a human heart to reference the fruit’s origin – France. The product is realized in black and white finishes, featuring a simple inverse typeface to communicate the wine’s label. The design brings a new meaning to the devil’s nectar.

L’Or de Jean Martell “Dome” by Eric Gizard

M

The house of Martell has collaborated with French interior architect and designer Eric Gizard to create the “Dôme” gift box for L’Or de Jean Martell.  I worked by drawing inspiration from cabinets of curiosities where collectors would store precious, almost magical objects in Renaissance Europe,” Eric Gizard said. “I was also inspired by silver cloches from great restaurants that excite curiosity and showcase the revelation of an exceptional dish.” The Dome’s base contains a hidden book that emerges with a single push. A mirror placed behind the bottle reflects and enhances the colour of this intense cognac. L’Or de Jean Martell is a blend of very old Grande Champagne and Borderies eaux-de-vie, creating a unique blend of elegance, power and roundness. This blend consists over 400 rare eaux-de-vie, some more than a century old, and they come in a precious crystal decanter. The cognac is a testimony to Jean Martell, whose founding principles are based on the pursuit of perfection. It has notes of fruited candy, sweet spices and gingerbread.

Zarb Bizarre Champagne Packaging

Zarb-Bizarre-Champagne-Packaging-6

Zarb Champagne shouldn’t have a tough time catching your attention at your local wine boutique.  These wild and wondrous champagne bottles are styled in a truly bizarre manner, reflecting the identity of the Zarb brand itself.  In French, the word Zarb is slang for “bizarre”, a moniker well suited to this new line of champagne.  The bubbly within this bottle isn’t your run-of-the-mill sparkling white either.  It hails from the Champagne region of France, so it bears the title of Champagne with true authenticity.  This line of packaging might just be the most exotic that a Champagne producer would ever dare to market.

A. Le Coq Premium.

During three hectic weeks in 2008, Tallinn based illustrator and tattoo artist Kristjan Luiga designed a cool can for Estonian beer brewer A. Le Coq. The design clearly gets its inspiration from graffiti and the twisted design looks almost like a street art version of Penrose stair. The cans are no longer in production so you will have to make due with a couple of images of Kristjan Luiga wonderful design after the jump.

Absolut: Blank.

After I put up the Absolut SF post, tons of people have been asking me about other Absolut collabs, and I haven’t been able to answer any questions…. Until now.  The Absolut Art Collection Tour is about to make its final stop in Shanghai after touring across Asia Pacific over the past few months.  The Absolut Art Collection, a celebration of art, creativity and popular culture, includes works by Andy Warhol, Francesco Clemente, Rosemarie Trockel, Béatrice Cussol and Angus Fairhurst, to name a few.  This will be the last chance to see the collection before it returns to Sweden. The exhibition will run from July 14th to 30th in Longmen Art Projects Shanghai.  To end the tour, the Shanghai exhibition will unveil the ABSOLUT BLANK campaign, a global creative movement that encourages artists and fans to create unique artwork from the “blank”.

Here, Absolut boldly turned its iconic bottle into a blank canvas to inspire artists throughout the world to collaborate and fill it with creativity.  Absolut brought together artists from a variety of disciplines and watched the journey from pure white canvas to exceptional pieces of art.  The Shanghai exhibition will feature the ABSOLUT BLANK collaboration between rising Chinese artist, Lu Xinjian and the multi-talented Musician/Producer, B6.  The two teamed up to create the “ABSOLUTELY A-MAZED” installation from just a blank map of Shanghai’s city streets.

The combination of both artists unique styles and inspiration from the ABSOLUT BLANK concept led to the creation of an artwork filled with colour, structure and sound that captures the inimitable energy of Shanghai.  A series of activities will be held throughout the exhibition period under the theme “It all starts with an ABSOLUT BLANK” including workshops led by artist Mr. Lu and Musician/Producer B6, where art students and ABSOLUT fans will have the opportunity to create art and music scratch.

The Bombay Sapphire Imagination Installation.

Bombay Sapphire has launched a global campaign called ‘Infused With Imagination’ that pays tribute to the heritage and the origin of the luxury spirits brand.  The artwork was created by a group of designers, led by Darren Simpson, and is formed through a series of illustrated panels decorated with a total of 75,000 crystals.  Illustrator Yehrin Tong was inspired by the definition of infused to create a dream-like image that “feels like an organic mixture of images both natural and mythical”.  The work was installed in a disused church. Panels were positioned to appear as though they were spilling out of the top of a bottle of Bombay Sapphire, if viewed from the right perspective.  Photographs of the installation will be used for print, outdoor and digital ads and a film about its creation will be seeded online and shown in cinemas.

The Martell Liquor Trunk.

The House of Martell has launched The Martell Trunk made in collaboration with Pinel & Pinel, the renowned French luxury malletier.  This journey of the senses takes place against the gently lit backdrop of the leatherlined compartments and drawers, offering the Martell Collection such as Cordon Bleu, XO, or L’Or de Jean Martell.  Furthermore, Martell has endowed this trunk with twenty-eight montres that contain the most unique and exclusive blends.  In the company of crystal glasses and decanters, rare scented candles and a cigar humidor, the trunk holds all of the noblest companions to the tasting of cognac.  Last but not least, the trunk contains a small blue leather-bound booklet – The Cellar Master’s Notebook – which contains all the handwritten tasting notes of Martell’s Cellar Master, Benoît Fil.  As an ‘avid alcohol connoisseur’, this might just be something to save up for.

The ”WineRack”.

Turn an A cup in to double Ds AND have your girl sport your favorite beverage for yourself and your friends.  Better than a boob job and cheaper too.  It holds 64 shots, 6.8 beers, and 3.2 bottles of wine.  And as a bonus, with a simple blow into the tube it’s easy to keep that full look even as you drink from your secret stash.  Sporting the WineRack will even give Pamela Anderson a run for her money while keeping the drinks on hand. The WineRack has been featured in PlayBoy (which means it must be good) and has been spotted on TV and in the news.  Take a bottle of wine, a mixed drink, or even a fifth of your favorite hard stuff to the movies, concerts, ball games, even PTA meetings.  Sporting a rack that will turn heads and serving a beverage that will have guys standing in line for a sip of your secret stash.  If you really wanna buy one, just click here.

Three Sheets To The Wind.

Comedian Zane Lamprey hosts a humorous trip around the world, sampling the local well-known (and little-known) food and drink, while also engaging in local alcohol-related customs in a show titled ‘Three Sheets’.  (After the saying “Three sheets to the wind”.)  I’m not sure who he had to sleep with to get this gig, but being an alcohol connoisseur myself, I’d love to be able to go around the world and taste liquors in much the same fashion that fat people would love to be food critics.  In each episode, Lamprey samples various drinks and food in addition to learning about the customs and libations of that area, and then experiences the local hangover cure. The series is produced by Screaming Flea Productions, and will air on Spike TV starting Feb 28th.
