Granada, Spain-based artist Ruiz Burgos (a.k.a. “OnlyMilo“) has created an amazing series of illustrations featuring DC Comics heroes and villains in the style of Norman Rockwell‘s iconic covers from The Saturday Evening Post. Burgos’ design process for each piece can be viewed on his art blog.
Iconic Italian fashion designer Giorgio Armani has created his first ever line of Swiss-made watches, which were unveiled Sunday in Milan during the city’s men’s fashion week. Presented at the Teatro Armani in Milan (a former Nestlé factory converted into a performance space by the fashion brand), the watches are Armani’s first ever Swiss-made timepieces. The designer treated a select group of attendees to a preview of the full collection. A few key stages in the manufacturing process were undertaken with a group of craftsmen showing off the handiwork that goes into the timepieces, which are designed to mix innovation and tradition.
Artist Eduardo Cortes Trujillo’s just completed this minimalist series of the Bats’ most famous villains. Using solid, black backgrounds and their most iconic colors and shapes, he’s captured each villain in their best light.
Renault unveiled a striking blue concept car by Ross Lovegrove, a British furniture and product designer, at the Salone Internazionale del Mobile di Milano furniture show. Renault says that the Twin’Z is a fun, modern, artistic take on a city car that draws inspiration from some of the Renault’s most iconic models, such as the R5 and the Twingo. The Twin’Z is an all electric city car featuring rear-wheel drive and a rear-mounted electric motor. The top speed is 81 mph and the vehicle has a driving range of 100 miles on a charge. The Twin’Z’s glass roof is designed in layers and incorporates an array of LEDs which form animated patterns intended to enhance the overall experience of the driver and passengers. Inside, the seats have been upholstered in a 3D woven, self-cushioning, lightweight blue textile which is both waterproof and flame resistant. The conventional dashboard has been replaced by a single tablet with a touch-screen display that controls everything from the vehicle’s heater systems to the roof. A smartphone display’s the vehicle’s speed, range-related information and the principal warning lights. Renault chose to reveal its concept car at the ‘Salone Internazionale del Mobile di Milano’, to prove its determination to reach out to a wider audience by targeting those who are more sensitive to design.
The simple geometric shape of this conceptual pyramid-shaped home creates a clean aesthetic, while remaining extremely eye-catching due to its iconic though rarely applied form. Some highlights of this design are the multiple windows cut out of the four large triangular facades that allow natural light into the home. An enormous window covers one entire side of the structure that visually exposes and lightens the design. Viewers also get to see inside the modern multi-level interior which features a library, balcony, two bedrooms, and even a recording studio that have all been cleverly sectioned to fit inside this unconventional concept.
Then and Now is a powerful collection of mash-ups by photographer and graphic designer Marc Ghali. In the series, the Canada-based photographer creatively blends old black and white photographs with sections of colorful, modern images. He perfectly arranges the new and old fragments so that, upon quick glance, viewers might believe they are looking at just one subject. However, each compilation features two faces representing the past and the present.
The subjects are often related in regards to professions, ranging from singers and actors to historical leaders. Some of the mash-ups include Rihanna and Diana Ross, Brad Pitt and James Dean, and two British princesses, Kate and Diana. It appears that Ghali really has an eye for matching faces as the many similarities are quite striking. The artist says, “I wanted to do something fun creatively. I was inspired by a series [by George Chamoun] called Iconatomy, and wanted to draw on parallels between influential figures pasts and present in an interpretative way.” It’s certainly fascinating to see how the world really hasn’t changed much across so many decades of time.
