Madonna Tops Forbes Highest Paid Musician List

mdna-tour-600x559

Business magazine Forbes named Madonna the highest-paid musician in the world, estimating her earnings at $125 million in the year to June. Revenues from her MDNA concert tour plus sales of Madonna-related products and merchandise put the Material Girl, 55, well ahead of Lady Gaga at $80 million. The Mother Monster’s income would have been higher had a hip injury not forced her to abandon a global concert tour, Forbes said. Veteran rocker Bon Jovi placed third at $79 million, followed by country star Toby Keith ($25 million) and British band Coldplay ($64 million). Forbes based its list on pretax income from ticket sales, royalties, merchandising, endorsements and other ventures. It doesn’t take into account fees for agents, managers and lawyers.

Forbes Highest Paid Electronic DJs of 2013

dj-turntables

Esteemed business magazine and infamous list makers Forbes have put together the 13 highest paid electronic music DJs of 2013, estimating their earning from live shows, endorsements, merchandise sales, recorded music sales, and external business ventures. While last year saw Tiesto top the list, bagging $22 million USD, this year sees Scottish producer Calvin Harris more than doubling that figure and netting a total of $46 million thanks to over 100 live shows at places like the Las Vegas megaclub Hakkasan (for which he received up to $200,000 per night). He also receives revenue from his songwriting work for megastars like Rihanna, meaning he ends up taking home even more money than the likes of Jay-Z and Katy Perry. How did he do it? “The rise of dance music has been astronomical in the last three years,” he tells Forbes. “I happened to be in the right place at the right time.”

The Highest Paid Actors In Hollywood.

Forbes‘ new list has declared Hollywood star Tom Cruise world’s highest earning actor after he took home $75 million between May 2011 to May 2012.  While Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol collected close to $700 million worldwide, the 1980s musical Rock of Agesstarring Cruise wasn’t a big draw.  Last year’s highest-paid actor, Leonardo DiCaprio, placed equal second on the list with Comic actor Adam Sandler after each collected $37 million.  The recent winner of ten Razzie Awards may make critically panned films, such as Jack and Jill, but the movie grossed $150 million worldwide.

The list of top ten earners also includes Johnny Depp, Will Smith and British comedy star Sacha Baron Cohen, who placed joint sixth with earnings of $30 million.

In June, Forbes released its list of the highest paid actresses and Twilight star Kristen Stewart topped the list with $34.5 million, while her male costars tied on the actor’s list at $26.6 million, which is more than third-place Sandra Bullock earned with $25 million. There’s inequality in salaries even at the top.
