Remy-Martin-Excellence-Cannes-2014-600x427

An official supplier of the Cannes Film Festival, Rémy Martin is pulling out all the stops for the event this year. For the first time, Rémy Martin is launching a special edition of its XO Excellence cognac honoring the cinematic arts.  One of Remy Martin‘s most prestigious cognacs, XO Excellence is an aromatic combination of floral, fruit and spice notes.  Just as sumptuous as the cognac itself, the decanter for this special edition has a gold coating from its base to its stopper. And, in homage to the Cannes Film Festival, the cognac maker has decorated the neck and label with a subtle black and gold motif echoing a strip of film.  The special edition comes in a gold and black gift box in which the decanter sits atop a red carpet pedestal.  Rémy Martin, one of the world’s most respected cognac brands, transforms grapes from the Grande and Fine Champagne zones into delicate spirits that are prized by aficionados around the world, and particularly in China.

general

Irish brand Guinness has shown that male friendship – it’s not just to drink beer together. True friendship is tested by time, tests and actions. As a part of multi-year campaign “Made of more” Guinness created 60 seconds video where using only 20 words they were able to show the true nature of human relationships. This video has it all: competition, failure, fall, and pain, as well as dedication, loyalty, strength of the human spirit and the friendship of these men. And as a finishing touch – composition Cinematic Orchestra “To Build a Home” sounding on a background.

Bye Bye Bugatti: See The New Fastest Production Car On Earth.

2013-hennessey-venom-gt-s-11_600x0w

American supercar the Hennessey Venom GT has hit 265.7mph (427.6kph) to beat the Bugatti Veyron’s existing record on a technicality to steal the top speed crown.  The technicality in question is engine tuning. A standard production version of the Hennessey Venom GT managed to come close to 270mph along a 2.9 mile stretch of runway whereas the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport, using Volkswagen’s 5-mile+ straight, got closer still, hitting 267.8 mph (431kph).  After setting its record, the production version of the car had its engine slightly detuned so that its top speed would be limited to a mere 258mph in order to guarantee the tires don’t disintegrate.

Therefore, though it is still technically the world’s fastest petrol engine car, the Bugatti is not the world’s fastest street-legal production car.  The Hennessey Venom GT was tested in February but the figures have only now been ratified. The car, which is loosely based on the Lotus Exige, is powered by a twin turbo-charged 7.0-liter V-8 engine. It pumps out 1244 horespower and, as the car weighs exactily 1244kg, its power to weight ratio is 1000 horsepower per tonne.

In February of 2013, the Venom GT officially became the quickest accelerating production vehicle in the world as it ran 0-300 km/h in 13.63 seconds, thus establishing a new Guinness World Record.  The car also managed to go from 0-60 mph in 3.05 seconds and 0-100 mph in 5.88 seconds, and it ran the standing quarter-mile in 10.29 seconds at 158.83 mph.  Only 29 Venom GTs are scheduled to be built and each will cost their lucky owner $1.2 million plus shipping, not including options.

Kaws x Hennessy Limited Edition V.S Bottle.

Since my birthday is just around the corner, I’ve been in a little bit of a drinking mood, and searching for somethign special to buy for myself.  When I heard that Hennessy announced yesterday their exclusive Hennessy V.S bottle collaborative project with world-renowned artist, KAWS, I was disappointed I’d have to wait till it hits shelves in September 2011.  Each Kaws Hennessy V.S bottle features signature Kaws artwork and is individually numbered, making this collectors item that much more special.  The Hennessy KAWS V.S bottle will be sold in 750ml sizes and will retail for $29.99.  The new bottle design will debut later in July at a private launch event in NYC.  In addition to the limited edition bottle, the duo will create multiple digital shorts, which will be distributed throughout the year.

Absolut: Blank.

After I put up the Absolut SF post, tons of people have been asking me about other Absolut collabs, and I haven’t been able to answer any questions…. Until now.  The Absolut Art Collection Tour is about to make its final stop in Shanghai after touring across Asia Pacific over the past few months.  The Absolut Art Collection, a celebration of art, creativity and popular culture, includes works by Andy Warhol, Francesco Clemente, Rosemarie Trockel, Béatrice Cussol and Angus Fairhurst, to name a few.  This will be the last chance to see the collection before it returns to Sweden. The exhibition will run from July 14th to 30th in Longmen Art Projects Shanghai.  To end the tour, the Shanghai exhibition will unveil the ABSOLUT BLANK campaign, a global creative movement that encourages artists and fans to create unique artwork from the “blank”.

Here, Absolut boldly turned its iconic bottle into a blank canvas to inspire artists throughout the world to collaborate and fill it with creativity.  Absolut brought together artists from a variety of disciplines and watched the journey from pure white canvas to exceptional pieces of art.  The Shanghai exhibition will feature the ABSOLUT BLANK collaboration between rising Chinese artist, Lu Xinjian and the multi-talented Musician/Producer, B6.  The two teamed up to create the “ABSOLUTELY A-MAZED” installation from just a blank map of Shanghai’s city streets.

The combination of both artists unique styles and inspiration from the ABSOLUT BLANK concept led to the creation of an artwork filled with colour, structure and sound that captures the inimitable energy of Shanghai.  A series of activities will be held throughout the exhibition period under the theme “It all starts with an ABSOLUT BLANK” including workshops led by artist Mr. Lu and Musician/Producer B6, where art students and ABSOLUT fans will have the opportunity to create art and music scratch.

Absolut Vodka x San Francisco.

If the city of San Francisco were to be bottled, it would taste of grape, dragon fruit and papaya — exotic flavors that capture the unique mix of cultures, ethnicities and culinary heritage of a thriving, colorful city.  At least, that’s what one vodka maker thinks.  In the latest edition to a city-series that already includes New Orleans, Los Angeles, Boston, and Brooklyn, Absolut launched a bottle that pays homage to San Francisco’s diversity and culture Tuesday.  The new flavor is meant to reflect the Napa Valley and Sonoma, and the rich contributions of the Asian and Hispanic communities.  The vodka maker has also enlisted the help of prominent local artists like Miguel Migs, a ‘sonic ambassador,’ fashion designer Christopher Collins, artist and painter Erik Otto, and Kevin Rose, founder of social news website Digg.  Locals and fans of the city are invited to submit photos, drink recipes and ideas that celebrate San Francisco on the bottle’s Facebook site, www.facebook.com/ABSOLUT.  At the end of the campaign, the Absolut Capitol of SF will be awarded to the neighborhood with the most user support and participation.  Winners will receive a special placement tab on Facebook and a mural in their honor.  Absolut isn’t the first to name their vodka after a great city. St. Petersburg Lux Vodka is named in honor of its home city, and is made from an old Russian recipe.  Another recent vodka launch inspired by unconventional flavors is Cupcake Vodka, which launched in April.  Absolut SF is available across the US at major retailers, bars and restaurants.

Samurai…Vodka?

A very interesting vodka bottle design made by Russian designer Artur Shraiber (Артур Шрайбер).  It’s a bit peculiar as to why a Russian would design a Japanese themed bottle, but none the less, the bottle seems like cut in halves with sharp sword of samurai.  And I’m sure the actual vodka is as tasty and delicious as the design.

Belvedere VIP Flight Case.

I love having a drink on a plane, and if it’s a private flight, I get wasted as soon as the wheels are up.  This is primarily because I have an irrational case of aviophobia, but the folks over at Belvedere have other motives when it comes to drinking while flying.  To mark the launch of the Intense Unfiltered 80, and the creation of the Intense family, Belvedere Vodka asked Brand Opus to design a luxurious gift pack.  “The core brand equities of the frosted trees create a frame for the Intense family, whilst paralleling the window device of the bottle design.  The trees are supported by branded etching on the side of the presentation case, to maximize brand exposure.  The finishing touch, the ultimate in luxury gifting, is the luggage tag, which not only creates a means for each case to be personalized to the recipient, but also adds to the luxury jet set theme.”

Liquor vs. Weed…

The World’s Most Expensive Bottle Of Tequila.

Mexican distiller Hacienda La Capilla, has unveiled a 1.3 litter tequila bottle called “The Diamond Sterling” on Monday.  The bottle, made of 2.3-kilogram layer of platinum and over 4,000 diamonds totaling 328 carats, is valued at around $3.5 million.  The bottle, designed by Fernando Altamirano, was seen during an interview with Reuters television in Mexico City.  Altamirano hopes to break the Guinness World Record for the world’s most expensive bottle, and when I save up the pocket change, I will promptly get wasted after the purchase.
