Is Dave Chappelle Cancelled?

By now, anyone with a special interest in controversy, comedy, Netflix, Dave Chappelle, or any of his recent specials, has heard of the controversy surrounding Dave Chappelle’s Netflix recent comedy special. (Yes the sentence was structured that was on purpose). But regardless of where you stand on the issues that “The Closer” brought up, it goes without saying that Chappelle is swimming against stream in regards to cancel culture. After some of the transgender members of the Netflix staff expressed their disgust in regards to the content of his $20 million dollar stand up set “The Closer”, the internet, and even CNN, was on fire with what people thought. In true Dave Chappelle fashion, he surprised people with a response, not only saying where he stood with Netflix employees holding him the crosshairs, but discussing his new documentary, and his 10 city comedy tour (that is already sold out). Check out just a clip of what he had to say for himself while he poses “Am I cancelled?” What do you think?

Rapper Nicki Minaj has never shied away from making a statement — and with her latest video, the rapstress is back in the crosshairs of controversy. The clip, for her new single “Lookin Ass Nigga,” has drawn mixed reviews so far, but what’s sparked a debate isn’t the track itself — but, rather, her unofficial cover art, which uses an image of Malcolm X holding a gun.

The Devil Wears Prada… The Virgin Mary Wears Louis.

The devil may well wear Prada, but at a biennial exhibition of sacred art in Italy, a statue of the Virgin Mary is donning Louis Vuitton.  The veil traditionally covering the Virgin’s head bears the French luxury brand’s trademark “LV” logo in golden letters.  Francesco De Molfetta, 31, said he created the work to “denounce a society based on the cult of appearance through the use of a brand that represents the search for ephemeral happiness.  This new way of interpreting sacred art is along the lines of the famous work presented (in 1999 in Venice by Maurizio) Cattelan that showed a wax icon depicting Pope John Paul II being crushed by a meteor,” the curator of the biennial Giuseppe Bacci told Il Centro.  “It is a way to hit the visitors’ unconscious,” he added.  The biennial is held at Isola del Gran Sasso in the central region of Abruzzo.  Milan native De Molfetta’s works have been on show in Tokyo, at the T20 contemporary art gallery of Murcia Spain and at the museum of Besancon in France.
