With the rising rates of incarceration, not only in the Bay Area, but in the U.S. overall, many more people are beginning to feel the squeeze of mass incarceration.  Those who have incarcerated loved ones may rarely be the focus of sympathy when someone is locked up, but families, and specifically women in those families get hit hard. These women are left to manage finances, care for children and hold families together, often at an enormous personal cost. Essie Justice Group will build a movement to support and connect women, and empower them to advocate for change in the justice system. The Essie group has set up the non-profit #StandWithHer program in order to provide support for women in these situations.

More information on Essie can be found here, at StandWithHer.org, and you can do worlds of help as well.  Essie has been selected by Google in the ‘Google Impact challenge’, and Essie’s plan is to win a grant that will reach 1000 women and families over the next two years, and impact thousands more by shifting public attitudes and criminal justice policies.  Click any of the photos to cast your vote, share the post, and help women left in need by the effects of mass incarceration.

McLaren 12C Spider Challenges a Snowboarder

McLaren-12C-Spider-Colorado

To mark its official launch in the US, the McLaren 12C Spider took to the notoriously dangerous Loveland Pass in Colorado to demonstrate its supercar credentials and to challenge X-Games professional snowboarder, Chanelle Sladics. In a specially made video to accompany the feat, Pikes Peak International overall record-holder and 2008 Drifting World Champion Rhys Millen races Sladics downhill in the convertible supercar, managing to keep its 3.8-litre V8 twin turbo engine in check through descending hairpin turns along roads caked in snow and ice. At 11,990 feet (3,655 m) above sea level, Loveland is the highest mountain pass in the world that stays open during the winter months and has a reputation as being one of the most treacherous stretches of road in the US. But, if the video is to be believed, somehow Millen not only keeps the car under control, he also manages to beat eight-time X-Games competitor Sladics to the bottom of the hill, despite her taking the most direct route.

Helicopter Crash Caught On Camera – Top Gear Korea

top gear korea

This was an accident that was caught on camera during filming for Top Gear Korea. Thankfully no one was seriously injured. The original challenge pitted presenter Kim Jin Pyo in a Corvette ZR1 against an AH1 Cobra helicopter in true Top Gear style.

In my mind, there are primarily two types of serious video gamers out there… The ones who play games because they perform some of those actions in real life (football players that play Madden, ball players who play NBA Live, marines who play Call Of Duty, etc.) and then there are the type of gamers who play games because they imagine one day they’d have the skills to perform some actions in real life.  However, there does come the rare occasion when gamers who have no real life training in something play game long enough, and for so well, that they actually become capable of pulling off some of their digital tricks in real life.  Coincidentally Nissan recognized this with a few champions of Grand Turismo 5.  The game is so life like, the cars so well tuned, and the mechanics so close to the real thing, they’ve chosen a select few to compete in REAL cars for a spot on the professional Nissan racing team.  Check the method below.
