Hyperrealistic Sculptures by Jamie Salmon

Don’t be fooled, realistic as he is, he is not real.
” I like to use the human form as a way of exploring the nature of what we consider to be “real” and how we react when our visual perceptions of this reality are challenged. In our modern society we have become obsessed with our outward appearance, and now with modern technology we are able to alter this in almost anyway we desire. How does this outward change affect us and how we are perceived by others? ” – Jamie Salmon.

Jamie Salmon is a British born, Vancouver resident, contemporary sculptor. He specialises in photorealistic sculpture, utilizing materials such as silicone rubber, fibre glass, acrylic and human hair. The themes of Salmons works are varied.

Mayor of London, Boris Johnson revealed the design and brand experience consultancy priestmangoode’s new vision for the underground tube. Working with transport for London (TFL), the next generation of deep level trains will operate from 2022 at newly modified piccadilly, Bakerloo, central and Waterloo & city line stations for more than 40 years. The 250 built will be capable of fully automatic operation but will have a driver on board when first introduced. The designs reflects the contemporary culture and architectural landmarks of the city, whilst staying true to the british transport’s style heritage. The stations platforms feature a step-free walk-through system that increases commuters’ safety by opening seamlessly with the train’s doors. The carriages include wider entrances to facilitate quicker turnaround times and also an increased capacity. Inside, the cars have an updated air-cooler to provide a more fresh traveling experience and has digital screens to display live news feeds from the TFL. The interior uses natural finishes and materials to ensure a comfortable commute, and includes a color palette of charcoal, warm grey and oxblood that represents the underground DNA.

Kate Moss To Cover Playboy’s 60th Anniversary Issue

katemoss_playboy_00

Legendary British model Kate Moss has been confirmed as the cover star of Playboy’s 60th anniversary issue and apparently has posed nude for the edition. Speaking to the Los Angeles Times, Playboy’s editorial director Jimmy Jellinek said:

“This is a massive global brand. You need a global icon in order to celebrate that — that was the impetus. You’re talking about the face of Burberry, the biggest supermodel in the world on the cover of Playboy. She’s the perfect partner for us to help launch the next 60 years. This creates a heat for the brand globally. It started with Marilyn Monroe on the cover of Playboy 60 years ago, an icon for her time. Now we’ve got Kate Moss!”

The shoot was reportedly helmed by fashion photographers Marcus Pigott and Mert Atlas, who opted to dress Moss in classic Playboy attire such as velveteen bunny ears, French cuffs, and silk stockings. Previous famed models to have graced the cover of the American periodical include Naomi Campbell, Elle MacPherson, and Stephanie Seymour. The 60th anniversary issue of Playboy is due out this December, 2013.

Aston Martin DB7 to DB4 Zagato Conversion

07 06 04 05 10 08 11

After initially unveiling the DB4 GT at the 1960 London Motor Show, Aston Martin built 19 examples through 1963. In 1991 an additional four examples were built, followed by another pair in 2000. British coachbuilder Evanta Motor Company took a DB7 – of which Aston produced some 7,000 examples in its ten-year production run – and rebodied it to look like a classic Zagato. This particular conversion is based on the DB7 V12 Vantage model, with an earlier version of the same 6.0-liter V12 still employed in the latest Astons producing 420 horsepower. That’s considerably more than the 314 hp offered by the 3.7-liter straight six in the original DB4 GT, and it is mated to an automatic gearbox and all the modern accoutrements, from air conditioning to air bags. The blueish-silver bodywork hides a red leather interior complete with full rollcage and retrofitted dashboard and seats. While all the details surely didn’t come cheap, you can bet it cost less for Evanta to create than an original DB4 GT – or for that matter, a 2002 DB7 Zagato.

‘Timepiece’ A Modern-Day Mechanical Sundial

British artist Conrad Shawcross has turned the London roundhouse into a real-time clock. The installation, ‘timepiece’ is a modern-day mechanical sundial, which transforms the entire room into a time telling system, responding to the circular architecture in a dramatic display of light and shadow. The 8-meter, faceless clock functions from a rotating metal mechanism which hangs from the center of the ceiling. Its three mechanical arms, each with a glaringly bright bulb attached to its end, rhythmically swing and fold. positioned on the floor, marking the center point of the space, is a four-meter high gnomon — the pointed needle of a sundial —  which signals the time. As the illuminated motor whirls, the light it casts onto the ground marks the hours, minutes and seconds in real time. shawcross developed the idea behind the mechanical light sculpture with the realization that he could adopt the roundhouse’s architectural elements into a timekeeper, paralleling its 24 iron columns to the number of hours in the day. The chiaroscuro that defines the piece brings the idea of timekeeping back to the participatory, celestial experience it once was.

Calvin Harris ft. Tinie Tempah – “Drinking From the Bottle”

4839.0508

In his latest music video, Calvin Harris explores the dirty side of Los Angeles via a surrogate: the devil. Hot on the heels of the video for his smash hit with Florence Welch, “Sweet Nothing,” which delved into the dark side of strip clubs, Harris’s new one features British hip hop artist Tinie Tempah and one petulant horned demon who spews crackpot philosophies on L.A.’s Sunset Strip and masquerades as the devil himself. The video rifes with explicit content, depicts a world full of sin: drug use, gang violence, booty popping, voodoo, female nudity and drinking.

Bogart Sues Burberry Over ‘Casablanca’ Photo.

The image in question.

The estate of Humphrey Bogart is suing British-based clothes company Burberry over use of the Hollywood icon’s name in what it said was an advertising campaign.  But Burberry has filed a countersuit, insisting it did not breach Bogart’s rights by using a photo of Bogart wearing one of its trenchcoats in the movie “Casablanca,” and seeking damages from the actor’s estate.  Both companies filed their legal action in the United States on Wednesday, a couple of weeks after the estate raised the issue with the classic English clothing company.  The Bogart Estate filed its action in Los Angeles, saying Burberry used the trench coat picture from the final scene of Oscar-winning 1942 classic “Casablanca,” on Twitter and Facebook, without its permission.

“Burberry’s business hinges on respect for its own intellectual property rights, so it is quite surprising to see that it apparently has so little respect for the clear rights of others.”  But Burberry counter-sued in New York, saying the photo was licensed from photo agency Corbis for editorial use. It said Burberry first contacted it about the issue on April 10.  Burberry said the image was used in the context of a historic “timeline” of the British company, used on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, showing the development of its “culture, products and people” over the decades.

17 Year-Old Emcee Gets RIPPED By His High School Teacher In A Rap Battle.

Normally I’m a bit more formal than this with posts, but BRAH…  This video.  I can’t.  I will probably watch this every day for the rest of my life.  Might even rip the audio and put it on my iPod.  I can’t even pick a favorite line, it’s just too good.  Never have I ever seen a teacher/student rap battle, in the U.K., in a real battle forum, but aside all that, this video still takes the cake.  I mean given that the teacher is a famous poet, this kid had to have known he’d be getting into a legitimate battle, but ho-ly-sh*t, that mom verse?  I did not see that coming at all.  My jaw literally dropped.  So score one for the teachers.  I bet Blizzard will never act out in class again.
