Zoosk Girl?

Click the pic to download

I know what you’re thinking; what the hell is a Zoosk Girl? I’ll be honest, I’ve listened to Flo-Rida’s new single for the last twenty minutes straight and I still have no idea. Even more confusingly, I can’t 100 percent figure out if Flo and guest artist T-Pain think being a Zoosk girl is a good thing or not (although it seems like they do…right?). Still, a track like this isn’t made to be analyzed. Like most of Flo’s work, it’s meant to stick in your head for hours, and by that measure it succeeds. The light, bouncing beat comes to us courtesy of J Rock, while Pain delivers yet another catchy hook and Flo, well, flows capably over the quickly moving beat. My advice? Don’t worry about what it means; just shut off your brain and enjoy. For more potentially mystifying hip-pop be sure to keep an eye out for Flo-Rida’s upcoming third studio album The Only One, which has yet to be granted a solid release date.

Ammonite Sink

Concrete washbasin shaped as a fossil from HighTech. “Ammonites are an extinct species of cephalopods which lived in the sea about 400 million years ago. Their shells are found all over the world and they are very much sought-after by fossil-hunters, their collector’s value depending on size and the state of preservation. The fascinating shape of ammonite fossils – which resembles a rolled up helix – is the basic design element in the new HighTech washbasin. The association of water and fossil design is a clear allusion to the prehistoric inspiration for the Ammonite washbasin.” (via Trendir)

My Chick Bad Remix Video.

Watch the "My Chick Bad (Remix)" video here.

I’m quite sure that everyone has heard the second single off the most recent Ludacris album “Battle of the Sexes” entitled ‘My Chick Bad’.  I’m almost just as certain the same number of people have heard the remix featuring Diamond, Trina, and Eve.  But what I believe most may not have seen is the music video for the wildly popular remix to ‘My Chick Bad’.  So click the pic to check it out.

Party in South Central.

As many of you may have noticed, my posts have pretty much stopped over the last few days.  I’ve been posted in the great city of Los Angeles, with Duckworth of Tokyo 24 in South Central, enjoying the weather and getting work done.  When I leave, all the pictures from the trip will be available shortly after.

Szotynscy Zaleski's piece: "The Crooked House"

No, this is not some warp-job done with Photoshop, or some type of digital optical illusion.  This is a REAL building in Sopot, Poland designed by Szotynscy Zaleski.  Zaleski was heavily inspired by the children’s illustrations created by Jan Marcin Szancer for fairytales and by the artwork of Per Dahlberg.  The home features three stories and is built with the surrounding buildings in mind to give it the feel as though it belongs in the area but perhaps melted or sagged out of exhaustion. Located in the Rezydent shopping center in downtown Sopot, the Crooked House has become the most photographed building in the whole country.

The Art of the Steal…

Click to view the Apple.com trailer

An un—missable look at one of the art world’s most fascinating controversies and a celebrated selection of the Toronto, New York and AFI Film Festivals, Don Argott’s gripping documentary THE ART OF THE STEAL chronicles the long and dramatic struggle for control of the Barnes Foundation, a private collection of art valued at more than $25 billion. In 1922, Dr. Albert C. Barnes formed a remarkable educational institution around his priceless collection of art, located just five miles outside of Philadelphia. Now, more than 50 years after Barnes’ death, a powerful group of moneyed interests have gone to court for control of the art, and intend to bring it to a new museum in Philadelphia. Standing in their way is a group of Barnes’ former students and his will, which contains strict instructions stating the Foundation should always be an educational institution, and that the paintings may never be removed. Will they succeed, or will a man’s will be broken and one of America’s greatest cultural monuments be destroyed?

Profile: Misa Campo

Misa Campo was born on January 22, 1987, in Montreal, Canada. When she was just two years old, Misa moved to California’s Newport Beach to live with her father. Surrounded by her relatives, Misa grew up in a safe and comfortable environment in which she was encouraged to pursue her dreams. Misa remained exclusively within the sunny vistas of Newport Beach until she was 10, at which point she began to shuttle between California and Montreal (where she lived with her mom and two sisters).
By the time she was in her late teens, Misa had moved permanently back to Montreal, where she managed to land a job as a bartender at the city’s exclusive Jet and System nightclubs. Misa’s bosses, impressed by her seemingly sunny personality and appearance, encouraged her to give the world of modeling a shot, and specifically pointed her towards Montreal’s annual performance racing auto show Sport Compact Performance. There, Misa impressed both patrons and executives and eventually walked away with the title of Miss Rocawear for 2006.
Misa’s burgeoning fame necessitated a move back to California, and it wasn’t long before she had managed to land a job as a bartender at a Los Angeles hot spot. She was also remaining active in the modeling scene, and, in addition to her duties as the face of Rocawear for Canada, Misa soon became a regular fixture within the pages of such magazines as Version C Models Magazine, Uno magazine, and DragSport (for the latter, she was named Model of the Month in December of ’06). Misa’s big break came when she was featured as one of Maxim magazine’s “Show Us Something” girls in September of 2006, and she was also named an IGN DVD Babe of the Day in 2007.

Batman & Superman… Not Goin’ Down.

Many, many people have been expecting some sort of Batman/Superman team up, much like the recently announced Avengers movie.  But, according the Christopher Nolan, that’s not necessarily going to be the case.

There was a lot of excitement a few months back when Nolan’s name was mentioned as the “godfather” of a Superman reboot at Warner Bros., and speaking on the decision for the first time, Nolan told Boucher that his involvement with the Superman franchise came about from them having reached an impasse on what to do with their third Batman film and David Goyer having an idea of what could be done with the Man of Steel:

“He basically told me, ‘I have this thought about how you would approach Superman. I immediately got it, loved it and thought: That is a way of approaching the story I’ve never seen before that makes it incredibly exciting. I wanted to get Emma and I involved in shepherding the project right away and getting it to the studio and getting it going in an exciting way.

As mentioned previously, Nolan would act as a producer for another director, which has yet to be determined as they develop the script. From there, Nolan’s involvement may be similar to Peter Jackson’s on District 9 as he moves onto the third Batman film. He didn’t have a lot more to say about the Superman reboot except that he did have an appreciation for what Singer tried to do in connecting his film to those of Richard Donner:

“A lot of people have approached Superman in a lot of different ways. I only know the way that has worked for us that’s what I know how to do.”

It’s suggested that like his two Batman movies, the Superman story will take place in a world where Superman is the only superhero, so one probably can’t expect this Superman to meet Christian Bale’s Batman or either character to be involved with a future Justice League movie.

“Each serves to the internal logic of the story. They have nothing to do with each other,” Nolan told them.

Eventually, the Nolans and Goyer got over the earlier impasse with a second Batman sequel, and things are certainly moving forward on that third movie. Nolan wouldn’t confirm any of the dozens of internet rumors about who might play the villain but he did say:

“Without getting into specifics, the key thing that makes the third film a great possibility for us is that we want to finish our story, and in viewing it as the finishing of a story rather than infinitely blowing up the balloon and expanding the story. We have a great ensemble, that’s one of the attractions of doing another film, since we’ve been having a great time for years.”

Frame from "I Am Legend"

There have even been massive hints, like the few frames in ‘I Am Legend’ in which a poster is displayed with the classic mashup logo.  But according to the big guns, it won’t be so.  (Sorry Reg)

Lloyd to joint the Interscope roster.

Lloyd recently confirmed that he would be joining Interscope records for the release of his new album.  While most people expected him to sign with Cash Money-Young Money, the 24 year old singer stated that C.M.Y.M.’s proximity to Motown Records was the reason he did not.  Lloyd’s last 2 albums produced under the Motown label were in his opinion, underdistributed.

“I don’t feel the need to rush to release an album. It’ll be out later this year. I got a couple of title options, but I’m not 100 percent sure yet, I love the way Interscope gets down. I love the way Jimmy [Iovine, label head] gets down. I’ve always had a good working relationship with Polow [da Don, producer]. Having that creative partner is something I wanted to have, since the very beginning, to have that one creative partner. Mike [Jackson] had it with Quincy [Jones], Janet [Jackson] had it with Jimmy [Jam] and Terry [Lewis]. Justin has it with Timbaland. I feel that me and Polow have something special. I’m really looking forward to that. I also admire Jimmy [Iovine] as a producer. He loves producers. He’s got Will.I.Am, DR, Dre, Polow, the Neptunes, Timbaland. That’s what he does. I’m looking forward to it.”

Lloyd recently released a new single with samples from Ray Charles ‘Unchain My Hear’, and features a verse from Mystikal (…yeah, I know).   After the release of the single, and question as to his new album, Lloyd stated,  “This year I’m really focused on a classic album and staying in the public eye with more guest features. I have a few surprise collaborations coming. In the past two months I’ve recorded some really surprising features that will shake up the game a little bit.”

Every so often, at a gallery, or art show, a piece of art catches your eye, be it a painting, sketch, or photograph.  Most of the time the artists who produce these pieces and display them for the world, have 2 or 3 out of their entire collection that out shines everything else around it.  It’s very rare to find a painter, sketch artist, or photographer who’s every single piece is a masterful work that grabs your attention, and demonstrates that individual is master of their craft.  Audrey Amelie is the type of photographer that displays this type of rare skill with her photos.  Click the pics to see more of her work.

One time, at Band Camp…

Bandcamp.com

Every artist in or out of the game has to have an outlet to publicize their music. For most right now that outlet is the over used, over saturated, easily manipulated myspace music. It’s just as easy to find a person with html knowledge to change the number of page views you have, and the number of daily plays as it is to pose as another artist, or steal their material. And even if an up-and-coming artist was legitimate, he has no way of telling who’s listening to his music and what their responses are to it. The music site Bandcamp.com aims to fix these issues, and has defiantly hit the bullseye. The site provides a clear-cut space to display your music with no limits as to how many songs your allowed. The artist or band can also get a very in-depth look at which songs their fans are listening to all the way through, partially listening to, or are skipping all together. The band has the ability to choose their own price for their song if they wish to charge, (with no money being profiteered by Bamdcamp), and can also see any and all links posted about their music from Bandcamp. This new site will soon become the blueprint by which many other music sites are built, trust me. I’m not just a spokesperson… I’m a member. The site is free, so check out http://www.bandcamp.com to set yours up, or refer a friend with an interest in their music being heard.
