Old School Gems.

NO THIS IS NOT A PICTURE OF ME.

It seems like ever since I put up the post about odd photos from the past (Parts 1 and 2), I’ve been getting recommendations about places to procure vintage photos of all different types.  I’m NOT trying to say that any suggestions from the fans were disregarded.  But one collection in particular, consisting of 16 retro photos caught my eye in a unique way.  Each of them has such an individual and intriguing element about them that I just can’t put my finger on.  Check the method.

A Whooty?

Normally when it comes to comedy, I make a distinction between funny and hilarious, but last night while doing some studio work I was exposed to a video that’s downright comically out of control.  The song “Whooty” refers to a woman with a slim waist, and a large rear end, specifically of Caucasian ethnicity.  (Or a white girl with a ‘ass’).  But the entire manner in which the video is filmed, down to the clothing the girls are wearing is just very funny to me. And the killer was that one of the group members of ‘Edubb’ is Lance Crouther (Pootie Tang) which was what really put me on my back laughing.

The 2012 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster.

Mercedes-Benz has confirmed that it is to launch a roadster version of its SLS AMG performance car, releasing initial — disguised — images of the vehicle.  The SLS AMG Roadster, a non-identical twin of the ‘Gullwing’ SLS AMG Coupé which made its debut in late 2009, will be unveiled at the Frankfurt Auto Show in September, and testing is already underway ahead of the market launch.  Mercedes-Benz says that the new model was designed in parallel with the SLS AMG Coupé and therefore shares many of its features, including the performance engine.  Like its gullwing-coupe counterpart, the open version of the top-of -the-line Mercedes is powered by a 571-horsepower V8 engine built by AMG.

The car can hit an electronically limited top speed of 317 km/h (197mph) and weighs only 2 kilograms more than the SLS AMG Coupé.  Its soft-top roof can be opened and closed at speeds of up to 50 km/h and has been designed for comfort inside, with a new production process aiming to cut wind noise by improving the join between the soft top and the glass.  As well as removing the gullwing doors, Mercedes-AMG has thickened the side sills of the vehicle in comparison to the Coupé, a decision which it said improves the rigidity of the car and reduces vibration.

Inside, the automaker has rearranged the speakers of the Bang&Olufsen BeoSound AMG sound system, mounting them on a cross-member running behind the seats, as the parcel shelf of the coupé model is replaced by storage for the soft top.  Although Mercedes-Benz says its current models are prototypes (hence no badge), it looks as if the final version of the SLS AMG Roadster is pretty much complete.  It will be officially unveiled on September 13 at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt (September 15-25) and will go on sale in the fall.

Joel Ortiz’s Battle Cry.

Slaughterhouse has been on my radar for quite some time, and since they joined Shady Records along with Yelawolf, I’ve for sure taken notice of all the cogs that make the Slaughterhouse machine move.  Crooked I, Joe Buddens (should out to Jersey, Royce Da 5 9, and Joel Ortiz are stupid-talented artists as a group, and still lethal on their own.  Check out Joel Ortiz’s “Battle Cry” acapella performance.  Check the method below.

Eva Kurkova.

The ever so lovely Eva Kurkova, (a.k.a. Temptation), was born on April 4th, 1988 in Isla de Juventud, Cuba.  This diverse and ‘well rounded’ model seems to be able to inhabit any frame she’s put in, with any type of shoot she’s been a part of.  Eva was raised alongside 4 brothers in a fishing town called Nueva Gerona. Her parents are Czechoslovakian (father) and Spanish/Cuban (mother).  She spent her life in Cuba until the age of 9 (in 1997), where she moved to Spain, and started to develop a background in theatrical production.  In 2004, after having  her name associated with a few beauty pagents, Kurkova realized her passion was the limelight.  Since 2005  been living in the United States and following her dreams of modeling.

The Freshest Bento Box Ever.

When I hear the word Bento Box, I normally think of a single-portion takeout or home-packed meal, like the type that are common in Japanese cuisine. (A traditional bento consists of rice, fish or meat, and one or more pickled or cooked vegetables, usually in a box-shaped container.)  But this is something far more ridiculous, and probably something Voltron might snack on.

Bento is quite an exceptional and forward thinking concept by René Woo-Ram Lee. It’s quite a plausible scenario that most of use/own a tablet, a PC, external hard drives and a smartphone.  Now combine the power of these to have fully customizable Bento Laptop.  The Box accommodates all the gear to work as one whole unit or individually; as you see fit.  Features include

  • Laptop with 15″ OLED screen
  • 11″ tablet and 4″ phone sit in shallow depressions
  • Solar powered lithium-ion battery
  • 1TB SSD drive

Have You Seen Wilfred?

I’ve seen tons of commercials recently with Elijah Wood, and a man dressed in a dog suit.  I’ve been quite perplexed, and was honestly somewhat put off by the visuals until I FINALLY found the explanation for the ads.  To be 100% honest, I was somewhat impressed.  So as I’m not one for advertising major network shows, here’s the scoop on Wilfred.

There’s been a number of overseas shows being adapted for US audiences… Top Gear, Being Human, and Skins, just to name a few. FX has picked up Wilfred, a remake of the acclaimed Australian series about “an introvert who struggles to find social and professional happiness, until he meets ‘Wilfred’”, his attractive next door neighbor’s Australian Shepherd. To everyone else, Wilfred is a dog, but to the introverted Ryan (played by Elijah Wood), Wilfred is a man dressed in a dog suit. Wilfred is “Ryan’s alter-ego intent on pushing Ryan out of his shell,” or as described by series showrunner David Zuckerman (co-developer of Family Guy), he’s “part Australian Shepherd, part Russell Crowe on a bender”.

The series was developed by Zuckerman, who also wrote the pilot. Jason Gann, co-creator of the original show, is reprising his role as Wilfred. FX has ordered 13 episodes based off the pilot, set to premiere summer 2011.

Secret Dancers.

Recently I threw up a post about ‘Dancing People‘ that got some good responses.  Dancing is a universal emblem of passion, joy and lust, so it was no surprise a post about dancers in their element would take off.  But that begged the question, how many people do you think you walk past on a daily basis who dance for a living?  According to Jordan Matter, if you’re an active businessman in New York, you’re probably walking past thousands each day. To give us all an idea of the personalities of these mysterious hidden dancers, Matter took… matters into his own hands and decided to undertake a project he decided to call Dancers Among Us in which he featured regular civilians, but with a small twist.  Check the method.

Duckworth – Yellow Subterrain.

Duckworth of Tokoy 24 has been killing the scene for quite some time, and is proving his talent with a constant barge of lyrical goodness entitled “A Swell Arrival”.  The fourth installment of the collection, named “Yellow Subterrain” is available for download by clicking the picture.  Team Backpack also recently had another cypher featuring Duckworth.  The video is below, but the swag is everywhere.

The Past Bleeds Into The Future.

These amazing images of St. Petersburg show the past bleeding into the future. Images of modern day St. Petersburg are meticulously matched to wartime images of the city during the Siege of Leningrad.  Instead of a slippage between two spaces. these photos show a timeslip, the exact same location caught at two moments in time. The creator describes the photo series by saying “A wormhole opens, we cannot help but fall into it.”

Slaughterhouse Interview.

Hardknock TV recently put out an exclusive in-depth interview with all four members of Slaugherhouse (‬Crooked I, Joe Budden, Joell Ortiz and Royce da 5’9″)‪. In part 1 of this interview Nick Huff Barili asks ‬Slaughterhouse about the new album and if they are looking to make it more introspective than their previous group album, which was extremely lyrical but lacked some of the more personal insight that made them stand out as solo artists. All four members said that you can expect a lot more personal material in the album and that you have to keep in mind that their previous album had to be done in 6 days with a stripped down budget.

Obama Spits Hott Fire.

Click the pic to watch.

As hard as my team and I work on scouring the interwebs for new source material for this blog, I’ll be the first to admit that we can’t catch EVERYTHING.  Sometimes there are articles, skits, photos, and happenings that simple elude our eyes and ears, but luckily I have other sources that help out without knowing.  I came onto Facebook after spinning a beach party on Cinco De Mayo, and saw a post from my boy Rob Scott about President Obama’s original speech after catching Osama Bin Laden.  Click the pic to watch this hilarious video, and shout outs again to Rob Scott for putting this video on my radar

Letterpress Dice Prints.

These letterpress dice prints by Stukenborg are stunning.  The planning required to organize pieces like these by hand must be immense (and time consuming).  They always say the devil is in the details, and that makes these dice prints quite a work of art.

Uma Thurman & David Lachapelle X Schwepps.

Schweppes has recruited screen siren Uma Thurman in another glamorous ad campaign, this time shot by famed high fashion photographer David LaChapelle. In its latest TV ad blitz, the fizzy beverage maker trades in one statuesqueue blond for another, having used Nicole Kidman in a Bollywood-inspired ad campaign in 2009. The ads feature Thurman reclining glamorously in an old-Hollywood-style vignette, speaking seductively about her love of the Schweppes beverage to a journalist.

“I love Schweppes and I need to have it all the time,” she says in a husky, smoky voice. The highly stylized fashion campaign is shot in signature LaChapelle style and also appears as print ads for a range of five sparkling beverages (lemon, Indian Tonic, grape, agrum and peach flavors) and appeared in Europe.

Turbulence (Sandro Silva Remix)

After the brutal beating by the original, here come the remixes. Today Ultra dropped the remix EP for Steve Aoki’s mega collaboration with Laidback Luke featuring Lil’ Jon.  As if the original didn’t already make you punch your ceiling. Now there’s even more muscle with all of these artists on board.

Not the usual sound you’d expect coming out of Sandro Silva. This remix feels broken and that’s good. The synth is loud and obnoxious, stumbling onto the kick giving you the impression that something isn’t right, something just isn’t in time. And that is what makes Sandro stand out amongst all the big players on this release.  By no means is this remix typical, it’s alien and rebellious.

SONY Got Served.

Sony’s latest revelation came just a day after it announced measures to avert another cyberattack like that which hit its PlayStation Network two weeks ago.  The Japanese electronics company said its Sony Online Entertainment PC games network had been hacked on April 18, but did not find out about the breach until the early hours of Monday and shut down the service shortly afterwards.  The breach may also have led to the theft of 10,700 direct debit records from customers in Austria, Germany, the Netherlands and Spain and 12,700 non-U.S. credit or debit card numbers, it said.  PS3 players, BE WARNED.

Dancing People.

My primary job consists of making people dance.  So obviously seeing people dance is something I thoroughly enjoy.  But this collection I stumbled across by multiple photographers of the most popular styles of dancing, totally blows my mind, check the method of these photos of dancers doing what they do best.

I Am Still Music Tour – Oakland.

Ricky Rossay in Concert at the ''I Am Still Music Show''

I put my footage of the “I Am Still Music” Tour on my twitter (@YoungStark) online, and I was very sad that I stopped one set of footage right at the most exciting part, as were my follwers.  When E40 and Rick Ross were on stage and 40 performed “B*tch”, I cut the camera off to enjoy the performance, but luckily Rosay had his cameras on to catch what I missed. Check the method below.

(Shout out to my assistant Ashley F. as well as Kris, San, Brit, and Jenna for bein there at the same time.)

Swizz Beatz ft. Cassidy & Jag – Everyday Coolin (Remix).

Click the pic to listen.

There aren’t too many songs that I hear, and want to keep to myself, but the “Everyday Coolin” remix is one of those tracks that I’d love to just keep on repeat in my iPhone and be the first to show anyone I chill with.  But I have a responsibility to put out any and all dope music I hear that hasn’t already over saturated the airwaves, so without further delay, I highly suggest you click the pic to check out “Everyday Coolin” by Swizz Beatz featuring Cassidy, and Jag.

The 12 Paradoxes of Graphic Design.

Being around graphic designers all the time gives me a distinct appreciation for the craft, and constantly working with them always gives me an astute understanding of what exactly it is they do.  Leaning more about design in general happens for me weather I like it or not sometimes, but these set of 12 posters by Tobias Bergdahl gave me a better grip on the mental mechanics of a successful graphic designer.  After a lecture by designer Adrian Shaughnessy, Bergdahl created the posters with masterful style, check the method below.

Jacob Sutton Photography.

Sally Ferreira.

Many of the models already featured on the blog has a particular niche, or style that fits them best in their photos, but Sally Ferreira out of Queens, NY is hands down the most versatile model I’ve wanted to put on this blog. It doesn’t seem to matter what the concept, the photography style, or the premise of the photo, Sally Ferreira owns the photo every time. She’s appeared in SMOOTHgirl Magazine, In The House Magazine, and Bridges Magazine, just to name a few. She’s been in a slew of music videos by artists like Cassidy, Don Omar, Bun B, Keyshia Cole, Bone Thugs & Harmony, and G Unit. Sally’s been on TV with Busta Rhymes, and is the only model I know to have been in an episode of ‘Sex And The City’. (2008 “Future Samantha”). Kudos to Sally Ferreira, this 5 foot 5 Dominican seems to be all over the place all of the time.

A Home-Made School?

Hand-built in four months by architects, local craftsmen, pupils, parents and teachers, this primary school in Rudrapur (a village in north west Bangladesh), uses traditional methods and materials of construction but adapts them in new ways.  The architects, Anna Aeringer from Austria and Eike Roswag from Germany, made every effort to engage the skills of local craftsmen, helping them refine processes and learn new techniques that they could then use to improve the general standard of rural housing.

Sunlight and ventilation can be regulated through the use of shutters.  in Rudrapur, the traditional local materials are bamboo for constructions and earth for walls and foundations, straw for the roofs and jute rope for lashing constructions.  Earthbound materials such as loam and straw are combined with lighter elements like bamboo sticks and nylon lashing to create a environmentally sustainable foundation.  Thick walls assure a comfortable climate on the ground floor of the building.

Tyler The Creator – ”Tron Cat”

Click the pic to listen.

Tyler, the Creator‘s much-anticipated sophomore LP “Goblin” drops May 10th, and below you can stream another track off the effort in the form of “Tron Cat”. The four-minute number is your standard Tyler affair: a simple beat supports a stream of twisted thoughts.

Steven Meisel’s Vouge Patterns.

Certain things come to mind when the topic of conversation is Vouge, and clothing patterns, textiles, and dresses and so on, (like my friend Diana L.) but this realm isn’t my area of expertise.   However, even though I show up at my office in a black t-shirt and sweat pants most days, certain aspects of high fashion always catch my eye.  The 2007 photo collection by Steven Meisel is one of those things that makes me appreciate the intricacy, detail, color, and depth in fashion.  Check the method below.
