The Birth of Hip Hop Fashion.

Today, hip-hop and fashion go together like Kanye and Versace, but urban hip-hop style — think Adidas, tanks and oversized pants — didn’t always have a home in the mainstream. In Fresh Dressed, a CNN Films production, director Sacha Jenkins chronicles the evolution of “fresh” style and rappers’ transition from Armani suits to b-boy chic on stage.

“Hip-hop fashion was derived through the music,” explains Carl Banks in an exclusive clip from the documentary. “It was a ‘we’re not gonna follow the rules’ mentality, both in music and in fashion.” The “rewrite the rules” vibe was definitely one that resonated with young audiences, launching the hip-hop subculture from South Bronx to the forefront of popular fashions.

The energetic film, which features in-depth interviews with familiar faces of industry insiders like Pharrell Williams and Andre Leon Talley, premiered at Sundance on Jan. 24. Be prepared to feel a wave of nostalgia for your boombox and Puma tracksuit.

Versace Fall Winter 2012 Campaign.


Here is the much anticipated Versace’s Fall Winter 2012 ad campaign shot by photographic duo Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott and stars models Philipp Schmidt, Dmitriy Tanner, Elza Luijendijk and Kaccey Carrig.
“I’m really thrilled with our new campaign. The result is bold, strong, iconic and perfectly conveys the sexy rock vibe of our F/W collection,” Donatella Versace said.

The Missoni Tower.


Missoni is partnering with Filipino real estate developer Century Properties to design the interior decor and amenity spaces of a condominium building in Manila.  Missoni Home is not new to commercial real estate.

They designed the Hotel Missoni line with Rezidor Hotel Group, with hotels open or opening in Scotland, Kuwait, Turkey, Omanan and Brazil.  It’s the fourth of six towers in the $316 million Acqua Private Residences project; the first three are completely sold out.

The Missoni Home tower will have 645 1-,2-, and 3-bedroom units that will rent for about $315 per square foot.  A multi-level amenity center called the Canopy will house an amphitheater, lounge, DJ booth and dance floor,a  pool with swim up bar, and barbecue facilities.

The Missoni tower is to be the second fashion-branded building in Makati, a section of the Filipino capital that Century Properties is developing at a breakneck pace.  The company is also building The Milano Residences, a Versace-branded tower there, 80 percent of which is sold, according to the developer.

Young Versace.


Young Versace has unveiled its new advertising campaign with supermodel Cindy Crawford’s 10-year-old daughter Kaia Gerber as the face.  Modeling designs adorned with the label’s iconic Greek key motif, Gerber was shot by acclaimed fashion photographers Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott.  According to the fashion house’s creative director Donatella Versace, Gerber proved she has inherited her famous mother’s talent when modeling the collection.  “Like her mother, Kaia has a very special gift,” she explained in a release. “The camera really, really loves her.

The 2012 Versace Spring Campaign.

Versace For H&M Cruise Collection.


The first images from the Versace for H&M Cruise collection have been revealed, with highlights including pastel-colored dresses, separates and accessories.  While the first collection was dominated by gold and bright vintage Versace prints, the Cruise collection has more of a fruity feel, and also features beachwear and lingerie.  The Cruise collection comprises 24 womenswear items and 14 for men, with creations for the latter including fresh denim and minimalistic T-shirts.  The collection will only be available in countries where H&M has an e-commerce site such as the UK, Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden and Norway.  The second Versace line is particularly rare as H&M’s past collaborations with labels such as Stella McCartney and Lanvin have only been for one season.  The Sonia Rykiel collaboration was a two-season partnership, although the 2009 lingerie line and 2010 knitwear collection were announced at the same time.  Chanel creative director Karl Lagerfeld, whose H&M capsule collection went on sale back in 2004, has previously criticized the limited edition nature of the designer partnerships, saying it leaves many customers disappointed.  More images from the Versace for H&M Cruise collection can be seen at Vogue UK.
