Booty Music.

IMG_9944

The beautiful booty above belongs to ‘Twerk Queen Louise’, and aside from all the other adjectives you may use to describe it, “musical” may not have been one of the first.  Louise Kjølsen, also known under her stage moniker Twerk Queen Louise, is without a doubt Denmark’s leading booty-shaker. The Copenhagen-based dancer has performed with a number of prominent artists, culminating in her appearance at Major Lazer’s triumphant Orange Stage concert during last year’s Roskilde festival.  Her incredible talents were used to put together the song “Cascavel”.  (Which you can listen to below)

The overall idea behind the project was to provide AIAIAI headphone-users and other music lovers with new music. Moreover, it was accomplished in an a unique way, which was to bring about music made by the booty – for the booty.  The project explores the rich heritage of bass-driven club culture where dancing and booty-shaking are integral elements. We want to see if it’s possible to change the perception of twerking through placing it in a technology-driven, creative context and letting the dance “do the talking.” So we let the producer Branko from Buraka Som Sistema use the movement of buttocks to make a new track. In collaboration with the designers, utilizing a dancer as their instrument who, in turn, contributes to the creative process, Branko ultimately produces a track powered and shaped by the dancer’s booty movements. The end result is the track ‘Cascavel’; new music for the dance floor and, of course, the headphones.

The Greatest Music Video Ever Released.

IMG_0327When we say ‘The greatest video of all time’, we’re only half serious.  When it comes to the history of music videos, there are entries like Michael Jackson’s “Thriller”, (or “Remember The Time”) that were more short films than what we typically consider music videos now a days.  There are also those music videos that inspired us, like Christina Agulara’s “Beautiful”, videos that reminded us what innocent love was, (Rihanna ft. Drake – What’s My Name), and videos that blew our minds visually, like Michael and Janet Jackson’s “Scream”… the most expensive music video of all time (to date).  But Lil Jon and DJ Snake have pushed the boundary in an entirely different direction.  The brand new “Turn Down For What” video has none of the aforementioned traits.  It doesn’t necessarily inspire us, reassure our confidence, or change our outlook on our own lives.  However, this video is still one of the most original, ratchet, beautiful, hilarious, and memorable pieces of music-related film we’ve ever seen.  It starts on a roof in some third-world country, and moves down floor by floor as more people catch the “turn up”.  The party grows the more floors people punch through, until the police catch the turn up.  Check the method below…. PREPARE YOURSELVES.

Siberian Tundra Twerking?

When you think of Russia, you don’t think of masterful twerking. However, this video could very well change your outlook. It’s a girl who has obviously mastered the art of the twerk. With Tyga’s “Rack City” playing in the background, she pulled off some noteworth booty shaking moves.

French illustrator Chris Panda has gone deeper than skin to create an awesome array of X-ray illustrations showing the bones of some classic characters. Various skeletons of cartoon, comic, and video game characters are portrayed, but without a doubt the most disturbing image is Miley Cyrus twerking on Beetlejuice.

Synchronized Twerking? Yes.

maxresdefaultThere wasn’t much hope for the “art” of twerking after Miley put the noose around its neck at the 2013 VMA’s.  But the Fraules dance studio has put together an amazing video featuring a synchronized twerking routine that just might breathe some different air into the dance.  Check the method below.
