BMW i8 Electric Super Car

BMW group has unveiled the production version of their first purely electrically powered super car, the ‘BMW i8’, at the international motor show (IAA) 2013 in Frankfurt. The plug-in hybrid combines the dynamic capabilities of a super car with fuel consumption and emissions you would normally expect from a small city car. Featuring a passenger cell made from carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP) and a turbocharged three-cylinder BMW twinpower turbo hybrid system, the high-performance EV develops 231 horsepower from its 1.5 liter combustion engine that drives the rear wheels, while a separate 131 horsepower electric drive sends its power to the front wheels and allows an all-electric range of up to 35 kilometers and a top speed of 120 km/h. The high-performance electric car can fully recharge in 1.5 hours from a 220-volt level 2 charger, and boasts up to 94 mpg in combined fuel efficiency. The motor derives its energy from a lithium-ion battery centrally mounted in the vehicle — which creates a low center of gravity for even more efficiency. It also works to provide an additional power boost to assist the gasoline engine during acceleration.

Lykan Hypersport supercar has exceeded all expectations when it came to demand. Especially when one considers the heavy $3.4 million dollars price tag. W Motors was planning on only building seven units of the Lykan Hypersport, but after the 2013 Qatar Motor Show unveiling, have received more than 100 orders. A 750hp mid-mounted twin turbo flat-six engine capable of achieving 0-100km/h times in 2.7 seconds and a top speed of 395km/h meant this car had very high ambitions from the start. Throw in the fact that it uses real diamonds and gold elements throughout the lighting components and interior.

Bugatti Gangloff Concept

04 01

Check out this concept car created by Polish designer Paweł Czyżewski. The Bugatti Gangloff Concept is a design study of a sleek super car inspired by the 1938 Type 57 SC Atalante Coupe one-off. The name Gangloff is from the French coach-builder that created the Type 57 SC Atalante. As you can see from features like the size air intakes and the horsehoe grill, the car also brings in cues from the Veyron. “In times of commercial trash and plastic it is hard to see something that has a soul and is able to squeeze out a positive mark on the heart,” Czyzewski said about the car.

Super Car Concept Designs.

Concept cars are basically a creative mind at work with no limitations.  You dont need to worry about how street legal it is or how much damage it will do to a person if you hit them doing 20mph… the answer is it does allot no matter how you design it you stupid regulations people.  Any how that’s the biggest short coming of a concept car.  What you see at the auto show wont ever make it to your drive way.  Yet it shows what we car capable of building and that a chevy impala may actually be the most boring car on earth.  Now that i offended the one Impala owner who visits this site we can safely move on.  Check out this wide range of properly awesome concept cars.   Brands include Bugatti, Ferrari, Tesla, Formula one, McLaren, BMW, and Mercedes Benz.

Fisker Automotive Releases The ‘Atlantic’.

Fisker Automotive has unveiled its new plug-in vehicle at the New York International Auto Show, as it struggles to recover from setbacks with its Karma sedan.  The brand unveiled a prototype of the new Fisker Atlantic plug-in hybrid at the press preview of the New York show, promising that it would be less expensive and more fuel efficient than the $103,000 Karma.

The four-door model is aimed at young families and will feature a similar powertrain type to the Karma and Chevrolet Volt, with a gasoline engine which kicks in to generate electricity when the vehicle’s on-board batteries run low.  The design of the prototype is similarly extreme as the Karma sedan, with a glass roof, long-wheelbase and a large grille at the front, with dimensions comparable to that of the Audi A5.

Tom LaSorda, Fisker’s CEO, said that the Atlantic was part of a process that would see Fisker “transitioning from a start-up automaker to a fully-fledged mainstream car manufacturer.”  Production of the Atlantic is expected to begin at the end of the summer, LaSorda told reporters in New York, with pricing unconfirmed.

Aston Martin x Mobiado Cell Phone.

Aston Martins and luxury phones are two of my favorite pointless obsessions in life.  The British luxury car brand Aston Martin and the luxury mobile phone manufacturer Mobiado are collaborating to produce a collection of luxury mobile handsets…  Enough said.  The merging of two of my favorite ridiculous obsessions will keep a smile on my face for the rest of the year.  Synergy between the two brands provides an ideal opportunity for Aston Martin to enter into the electronics sector, with an exclusive range planned to launch in May 2011 through a range of premium outlets.  Peter Bonac, President of Bonac Innovation Corp. said, “Like Aston Martin, Mobiado prides itself on design innovation and technological excellence.  We look forward to a long and prosperous working relationship, and are thrilled to be working with the prestigious Aston Martin brand.”

The Jaguar XKR-S.

Jaguar has joined the 300 km/h club with the unveiling of its most powerful car yet, the XKR-S.  Billed as the fastest and most powerful series production vehicle ever made by the brand, the XKR-S is expected to be available to order in September this year.  Offering a 5.0 liter V8 engine, Jaguar’s latest cub has been designed around its speed qualities with a dramatically redesigned front and a separate rear spoiler.  As Jaguar’s design director Ian Callum puts it, “if you don’t like the way it looks, you probably won’t like the way it drives either.”  (Quite the bold statement).  Thanks to this modification, the XKR-S tops out at 300 km/h and can manage 0-100km/h in 4.2 seconds, all with a soundtrack which Jaguar describes as “motorsport-inspired aural feedback.”  It includes a refreshed interior, including 16-way adjustable heated sports seats with a memory function, designed to hold driver and passenger firmly in place during high-speed trips.  The XKR-S is one of a host of new and upgraded models being unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show, which is open to the public March 3 – 13 in Geneva, Switzerland.

The Fenix Supercar…

A new supercar under the Fenix Automotive banner and shares similarities with the old M12 and M400 cars, while it shares features like the general shape and specs as that of the Noble M600. The Fenix will be powered by a choice of Chevrolet V8 powerplants, so customers can choose between 480 Horsepower LS3 or the 638 HorsepowerLS9 from the Corvette ZR1. It has a projected curb weight of just 2,645 pounds which aids the supercharged Fenix to sprint from 0-100mph in under 7 seconds and also reach a top speed of 200 mph.

The company is developing its first prototype at it’s manufacturing facility in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. The level of performance and sophistication that Fenix offers is way better than the rival thorough bred sportscar at almost half the price. The Fenix supercar is expected to go on sale in the UK in the second half of 2010 and US as well.  Keep in mind, these are some of the first images to be released.

Another Damn Lambo.

I know I put up a Lambo very recently, but when I saw the Lamborghini Sesto, and I had to put it up.  The words Sesto elemento are Italian for “sixth element.” The term refers to the matte-finish carbon-fiber that makes up the Sesto’s body panels and basic structure. Carbon fiber is many things — hyper-expensive, difficult to repair, pretty — but it is also one of the lightest and strongest materials currently being used in car construction. As a result, Lamborghini claims that the V-10-powered Sesto weighs in at a staggering 2200 pounds. (Perspective: That’s 1100 pounds lighter than a Lamborghini Gallardo and a fat passenger’s heft away from a Lotus Elise.) In other words, if it weren’t for the massive engine mounted behind the passenger compartment, the Sesto might flutter down the street in a stiff breeze. This is in stark contrast to Lamborghini’s current lineup, almost all of which emphasizes power, traction and comfort over low weight.

Aston Martin One-77

This may not be the newest Aston Martin to hit the scene, but its for sure one or the most impressive. Check the method below to get the scoop on the Aston Martin One-77.

Introducing: The 2012 McLaren MP4-12C

Revealed last September, the MP4-12C is motivated by a twin-turbocharged, 592-hp, 3.8-liter V-8, which was developed by McLaren in partnership with Ricardo. Now that we’ve all seen the car in person, we agree that it looks better than in photos, especially with this car’s matte-black wheels. A few editors still think it’s a little bland in the styling department, however, although the fact that the body panels exist solely for aerodynamic purposes is a good excuse.
