What Is 4D Sound?

maxresdefault-4

ViviTouch 4D Sound was developed with EAP (Electroactive Polymers). Pioneered by Bayer, EAP is an incredibly thin and flexible film that can be used as a flexible capacitor. The proprietary dielectric polymer expands when exposed to an electrical current and contracts when electricity is discharged. Stretchable electrodes are printed on either sides of the EAP film. Furthermore, by printing a specific frame pattern, a developed planer actuator acts as a new type of electrical motor converting electrical energy directly into mechanical motion.

The printed film is designed into an overthe‐ear headphone, these polymer motors move the skin around the user’s ears and generates a very realistic subwoofer experience similar to what one would normally feel only in a concert hall or movie theatre. The electro-active polymer has 10x faster response time and covers a broad frequency range. 4D Sound can generate thousands of unique sensations and enables a full spectrum of sensory sound.

Levitation Through Sound

acousitic-levitation-normal

Three-dimensional levitation was achieved with sound waves. Using ultrasonic speakers so that nothing is heard, small particles were successfully suspended and manipulated in mid-air under gravity. The experiment was also successful with small objects such as screws, LEDs, and resistors.

Clearview Clio Invisible Speaker

Clearview-Clio-Invisible-Speaker-0

Unlike any speaker we’ve seen in the past, the Clio utilizes a transparent acrylic glass stereo transducer to produce the sound. Due to the innovative design of the speaker (using the brand’s proprietary Edge Motion technology) sound can easily fill an entire space, making it great for not only music but also as surround sound  for your home entertainment system. Clio uses Bluetooth technology, letting you seamlessly pair any device with the speaker wirelessly. While the top portion of the speaker is optically clear, the base is available in three different color options including dark bronze, charcoal, and silver.

Sonic Water

sonicWater01 sonicWater02 sonicWater03

The fascination of ‘sonic water’ by media artists Sven Meyer & Kim Pörksen, is rooted in their ability to aesthetically express sound as a visual experience. The installation produces constantly transforming images which react when a user adds content to the liquid mix. Water in small containers act as flexible three-dimensional sculptures that translate sounds into kinetic imagery. Through the use of  light and speakers, the water tanks produce wave patterns depending on different audible frequencies, reflecting on the process of changing chaos and order. By following the law of the golden section, the liquid soundscapes react like forces of nature, reproducing identical vibrational patterns found in the tones of the solar system. 1963 Buick Riviera

01 02 06 03 05 04This is 1963 Buick Riviera with tuning by Fesler. The Scottsdsale, Arizona, dweller, co-owner and CEO of toymaker Ronin Syndicate, Tony Diaz, began his pursuit of the dark side a few years ago, combing the country for the perfect candidate for his evil mission. “I had been looking for a Riviera for a long time,” explains Tony. “I wanted it to look thug, but not modern-day thug—more like something from the ’30s,” proclaims Tony. “Like you would expect dudes with tommy guns to jump out of it.” Tony definitely had gangster goals, and thankfully his friend Chris Fesler was up for the task of making Tony’s dreams a reality. One of the most intriguing aspects of the rapacious Rivi is the exclusive yet abnormal rolling gear. With more than 3,000 watts of power going to the Kicker subwoofers and speakers, not only does it pound pavement, but it casts fear on anyone daring enough to peek inside.

Interactive Blue Light Art by Gabey Tjon a Tham

Interactive-Blue-Light-Art-by-Gabey-Tjon-a-Tham-3

Interactive artist Gabey Tjon a Tham has created a light installation in which lights dance to music and spiral in different forms. In the piece Repetition At My Distance, the blue lights are transformed into beautiful twists that change shape as they move, sparking a new era of mobile 3D art. The art form in the future may adapt to reacting with other lights, voice and other inputs.

There are a total of 16 dancing streams of light that change with the vibrations of the speakers, varying the speed, brightness, and synchronization as the lights dim and brighten. The lights even move independently and others they all synchronize together. At some points some of the lights disappear while some remain on and still moving.

The Flip Headphones

flip

The Flip is a hybrid speakers and headphones concept, something that is getting very popular these days. With two modes to use them, the flick of a switch allows you to stream music straight into your ears or share it with friends. Both modes work with your devices using a headphone jack or USB, depending upon how you want to go about it.

What English Sounds Like To Non-English Speakers.

Glottal stops, lilts, pitch, there’s a lot more to hearing a language than just the words. Do you speak German? If not, do you know when you hear someone speaking German? Probably so.  And what about English? More than once, I’ve attempted to hear English through the ears of a non-speaker by eavesdropping on a conversation and going into an almost meditative state, focusing on the sounds and not the words. It only lasts for a few seconds at a time.

This short film, entitled “Skwerl,” gives us an idea of what English sounds like. I have to applaud these actors for managing to get through this without laughing. Their “English-ish” language seems to be a mix of actual English words and sounds in a nonsensical order. (See if you can catch “Elton John” and “make the pope cream.”)

The Apple Macmini Radio.

Apple freaks know pretty well that Jobs doesn’t indulge in concepts. Which is why any nugget that comes our way, we lap it up like starving puppies. Who wouldn’t love having this stackable Radio and Speaker System for Macmini on their table? Specs like Internet radio with access to about 10,000 stations worldwide, 2 front and 3 rear extra USBs and multi card reader, makes it a delectable item. Superb sound quality and quite sexy indeed.

The Kanto x Apple Speakers.

The Kanto Morph speakers were originally designed by Alp Germaner for a competition but he missed the fine print about it being a “skin design” only and so it was relegated to languish in the dark corners of his hard drive – that is, until we got our hands on it. Look, for once it’s a design not about nostalgia. It’s not ostensibly minimalistic and it’s contemporary. Yes it’s an iPhone/iPod dock but who says all Apple peripherals have to look like Cupertino designed them? I applaud his aberrant design choices.

Vol Portable Speakers

Humor me for a second here, but I swear to you, the concept of the Vol Portable Speakers is too similar to the Diwali Lanterns in India.  However it doesn’t take away the novelty in design of what Carson Leong and KSL Design were shooting for. In fact, I think it’s a great approach of using the natural up-down sliding motion to increase and decrease the volume of the speaker. So much better than just hitting some buttons or turning a dial, and can make a great accessory to any desk. Check the method.
