Gatorade has partnered with artists from around the world to create a dynamic print campaign featuring star athletes representing different sports such as NFL, Baseball, Tennis and Athleticism. The campaign features illustrations of the athletes that demonstrate the benefits of Gatorade products and drives at the idea that athletic performance is driven from the inside. Commissioned by TBWA\Chiat\Day he was direct to illustrate a combo of 3 ads for the campaign including the artworks for Cam Newton, Derek Jeter and Usain Bolt, the visual direction was well accepted by PepsiCo and they invited me also for a fourth ad for JJ Watt and participate on a feature for MTV interviewing the star.
Scientists over at Princeton University have combined electronics with biology to create a 3D printed bionic ear. The artificial organ is a result of the team’s exploration into using the prototyping technique to print out cells and nano particles. Purchasing a basic 3D printer online, the researchers, lead by michael alpine, an assistant professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering, used the additive technology–which allowed them to render the complex topology of the ear–to layer a matrix of hydrogel and calf cells (which eventually develop into cartilage) to build up the form; along with silver nano particles to form an antenna. The thin sensory appendage is coiled within the tissue-like structure, with two wires leading from the base of the ear, wrapping around a helical cochlea that ultimately connects to electrodes. It is the team’s first attempt at developing a fully functioning organ, and the intended use of the resulting organ could be used much like a hearing aid, to restore or advance human hearing.
Sneakercube, was commissioned by Nike Sportswear Poland to create series of illustrations to promote the release of Nike Air Max Sunset Pack, featuring an orange-to-yellow gradient on an engineered mesh finish with black elements. The project included Air Max 1, Air Max 90, Air Max 95 & Air Max 97 models and was used for print, online promotion, as well as an in-store installation in WSS (Warsaw Sneaker Store).
These are 2 pieces commissioned by Adidas Originals for 2 Originals stores in the US. Both pieces will be displayed along side a series of other artist’s works. Jthree Concepts, [aka jared Nickerson] tried to go with a more rustic feel and theme for this project. The pattern based design he introduced a number of additional themes including sci-fi, classic small town signage and Adidas Originals culture.
The ‘Tree of Life’ poster, looks (when seen from far away), like a typical cross section of a tree stump. However, when a closer look is taken, you can see that the black circles aren’t wood rings, they are hundreds of different silhouettes from the animal kingdom. The project was intended to draw attention to the destruction of the rainforest and the subsequent destruction of animal habitats.
I always get questions about what it is that actually gets a woman on the blog. Guys always suggest women, and women always assume its only about beauty. That couldn’t be farther than the truth. However, in very few cases, the team and I will agree on a girl before we see her resume just off the strength of her look. The Southern California beauty Jenny Chu is one of those few. ½ Chinese, ½ Vietnamese, she seems to have been all over the place, and had her hand in everything. Miss Chu has done spreads in everything from Show Magazine to Cage Fighting Magazine(diversity.) And one of the sexiest things to me personally is a woman that into cars. Jenny’s been in videos for the Fast and the Furious 3, and in Import Tuner as well as Girls of Lowrider Spread. As if that wasn’t dope enought, she’s shared the screen in videos with Snoop Dogg, P. Diddy, Young Dro, Chingy, Too $hort, Mario, and Slum Village. Other gigs like a documentary on Vida Guerra, being on the Wild Card Poker Tour and Street Fury on G4TV just take her over the top. Can’t wait to check her at an Hot Import Nights show.
Leonardo da Vinci once said: “Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication”, and architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe adopted the motto “Less is more” to describe his extreme simplicity, by enlisting every element and detail to serve multiple visual and functional purposes (such as designing a floor to also serve as the radiator, or a massive fireplace to also house the bathroom).
Even after 500 years Leonardo’s words are true and this rule is still widely used in design and advertising. It may sound a bit contradictory, but simple things often require much more brain power to create than the most complicated stuff. And it always strikes you when something completely simple is capable of conveying so much more than you expect.
Dear Blank, Please Blank.
No matter who you are, at one point in life, you’ve received a letter. Everyone has. But not many letters read like these short, clever, comical works known as “Dear Blank, Please Blank”. There are even entire websites dedicated to this format of humor, but the ones in these pictures are some I thought were among the best. Check the method.
