The Mykonos, Greece Villa.

So after a call that we here at djstormsblog.com put out to Greece, we began to get many an invitation to rent houses.  One of my personal favorites was a sea-side, villa, with pool, and turn-down service.  It was one of the most spectacular homes in Mykonos, but you can check out the full rental profile HERE.

From the beginning, Pretty Beach House set a new standard not just because of its exquisite location and its exclusive home-like setting of just four private villas, but it also exceeded all expectations in terms of cuisine.  We stayed there every year and consistently kept it on our 10 best places to stay list, together with Castello Di Reschio in Italy , El Palauet in Barcelona land Saffire in Tasmania.  But it late 2012, a fire destroyed much of the main pavilion and our favorite resort closed for more than two years for complete restoration.  The main pavilion is elegantly restored with decommissioned railway timbers from 1883 and each of the four pavilions – Treetops, Bayview, Hideaway and The Retreat – are beautifully appointed with works and craftsmanship of local and international artists and artisans.

The resort continues its tradition as a foodies paradise with its spectacularly cool new kitchen led by distinguished chefs and restaurateurs, Stefano Manfredi and Julie Manfredi Hughes, whose incredible cuisine impresses us every single time.  The interior design of the villas is un-pretentious and  beautifully fitting for the environment. Natural fibres, muted colours and restful accents create a perfect setting for the views of the incredible landscape with hundreds of old gum trees standing there like living sculptures.  The villas interiors are luxurious but not over the top and feature raw, natural materials which blend in with the more ‘designer’ elements. Privacy is paramount which is why, three of the four villas also has its own private swimming pool. The villas have their own old school record player along with a selection of vinyl, iPods with songs already loaded on it, king size beds have linen sheets, bathtubs and wireless internet (for online-junkies) so there’s nothing else to do but slide from day bed to pool and back again in a haze of sedation, facilitated by attentive staff who materialise at your every whim.

Ciara – ‘Dance Like We’re Making Love’

https://i0.wp.com/static.idolator.com/uploads/2015/07/ciara-dance-like-were-making-love-video-teaser-sunglasses.png

Ciara turns up the heat in the steamy video for her Jackie single “Dance Like We’re Making Love,” which premiered on Sony’s Times Square billboard. The R&B chanteuse reunites with Dave Meyers, who directed her video for “Lose Control” with Missy Elliott. Ciara is fully re-embracing her sex-goddess status. In the new video for Jackie single “Dance Like We’re Making Love,” Ciara does just that, chilling seductively — yes, she can make chilling look seductive — in a pool, dancing around a beautiful mansion with her lover, and slowly shedding her clothes as she makes her way to the bedroom.

Spitbank Fort – A Sea Fort Transformed Into A Luxury Hotel

spitbankfort_00

Mike Clare – the former CEO of bed retailer Dreams – has transformed 19th century sea fort into an exclusive luxury hotel. Located in the English Channel off the coast of Portsmouth, Spitbank Fort was originally build by Lord Palmerston to protect one of Britain’s most important naval bases from attacks by Napoleon the III’s navy. Now, with all its guns removed and a £3 million makeover, the 7,000 sq ft base can be reached via boat or helicopter and features eight bedrooms, an “Officer’s Mess” restaurant, a bar, fire pit, pool and sauna, and a lighthouse. There are also plans to turn the neighboring No Man’s Land Fort into a lager version of Spitbank, with up to 27 bedrooms.

Located amongst the lush shrubs and trees in Saint-Tropez, France, this contemporary private home stands in direct contrast to its natural surroundings, constructed from a combination of glass, raw concrete, and steel. Each level is reminiscent of an open pavilion, with the boundaries to the outdoors broken down by sliding floor-to-ceiling windows and doors. Inside, the layout has been kept as open plan as possible, with a large lounge and kitchen/dining area lending itself perfectly to simple Mediterranean meals. Direct access to the large roof terrance is also available from the lounge area, from which you can see an additional shipping container-style guesthouse in the grounds.

Cape Town-based architects SAOTA completed this architectural gem. Head Road 1815 was designed for a young couple, wanting a dynamic and striking home, primarily for themselves, with guest accommodation separated from their own living areas. The luxury property can be found in Fresnaye, Cape Town, South Africa. The luxury Cape Town property views towards the north and west over Fresnaye as well as at the rear of the site. The site falls very steeply and due to the high elevation of the road and the restrictions on the building form, the house is raised above the property on high columns. The house includes three-storeys accommodating three en-suite guest rooms on the ground floor, with a plant area and a staff flatlet at the rear. The first floor is the main living level, with a large living room and dining room opening to a covered and uncovered pool terrace. The kitchen is positioned to enjoy views through the glass roof towards Lion’s Head. The entrance hall is accessed by gentle steps from Head Road preceded by a glass-roofed external lobby space. The second floor accommodates the master bedroom, dressing room and a light-filled en-suite with views over the pool below.

Ahmedabad-based (India) design practice Hiren Patel Architects have completed The Courtyard House project. Completed in 2012, the stunning property resides in Ahmedabad, Gujrat, India. The Courtyard House was designed with a grid of 7’x7’. The house has been designed in such a way that all living spaces and passages face the  garden, which was also the main design concept, thus creating a central courtyard which holds the reflection pool making it a major design element. This also makes the design an introvert one, leaving the garden at the back of the property but still visible and accessible from all the rooms of the contemporary Indian house.

The formal living room comes first along with two bedrooms followed by a 9in wide passage parallel to the central courtyard and reflection pool. The passage ends with the dining and family room. This area is is utilised to its maximum, thus has a big verandah on all three sides, which adds the value to the north side garden. This luxury Indian property has a large size of openings and skylight to allow ample amount of light to flood the rooms throughout the day. It is also a crucial feature in Ahmedabad climate. Light is essential but not scorching heat. Screens and deep verandah protect these huge openings from the harsh sun. Verandahs also become wonderful outdoors spaces during relatively cool evenings and mornings. The contemporary Indian property is made of RCC roof structures covered with wood. Also verandah and upper rooms are covered with wood. Floors are covered with natural marble stone and wooden planks. Custom designed doors and windows are made of wood and laminated glass.

The £1 Billion Swimming Pool.

At the San Alfonso del Mar resort in Chile, a quick dip could well turn into a marathon.  Swimming a length in this, the world’s largest outdoor pool, would mean stroke after stroke for more than three fifths of a mile – that’s 20 Olympic-size swimming pools.  The enormous man-made lagoon is set halfway up the country’s Pacific coast, in the city of Algarrobo, and is filled with 66 million gallons of crystal clear seawater.  It also hold the Guinness record for the world’s deepest – so if you don’t feel like diving 115ft to the bottom, it might be best to bring some spare goggles.  The pool opened in December 2006 after nearly five years of construction work and is said to have set developers back as much as £1billion.  And on top of that eye-watering initial cost, it takes a further £2million a year to keep it in working order.  It uses a computer-controlled suction and filtration system to suck water in from the ocean at one end and pump it out at the other, while the sun warms it to 26C – nine degrees higher than the sea.  The pool’s incredible dimensions leave the next biggest floundering in its wake, with the Orthlieb in Morocco measuring a mere 1,575ft long.

The Mid Air Shanghai Swimming Pool.

Holiday Inn Shanghai Pudong Kangqiao is the new landmark building and the first international branded hotel in the Kangqiao area.  The new hotel features a one of a kind swimming pool. Located on the 24th floor of the hotel, the 30 meters long swimming pool is in suspension over the edge.  What’s unique about this swimming pool is that there is a glass underneath the pool.

The Mini Cooper… Inflatable.

What do you get when you combine the ultimate summer playground with a fun, cool brand that is willing to play with you? You get life-size Mini convertibles, inflatable beach toys that are as much fun for adults as they are for kids.  Most likely kids will have no chance at all to play with these toys as the Mini inflatable screams grown-up fun in an irresistible way. This is the ultimate beach accessory; too big for the ordinary pool but perfect for the warm waters and sandy beaches where the in crowds gather to see and to be seen.

Beach-goers can just grab one and play in the sand or on the water. They will be able to enjoy the sun, catch the waves, look cool, pose for some pics. These are pictures they will want to broadcast and post online because the beach Minis will not appear on every beach. People will want their friends to know where they are so that they can join the fun.  Mini Inflatables were created by Access Agency after the unveiling of the Mini Indoor Drive-in for the new Countryman in Italy.

Access’s cool car experiences for Mini include the recently launched Sephora’s new Same Day delivery service using the Mini Clubman.  The Mini Inflatables are incredibly flexible as promotional and entertainment tools. They can be used not only at the beach over summer but in many other environments as well.  Additional uses for the beach include fun Mini rides in Mini Inflatables pulled by speedboats or jet skis.  Mini Inflatables are effective as massive “balloons” on top of actual Minis in showrooms, outdoor picnic promotions, parks, special events such as Art Basel and other large-scale festivals.

A Floating Pool?

A giant floating pool just off the riverside of Manhattan – for swimming and also filters and cleans the water? Why not? That’s what a group of designers and architects are proposing in + Pool (Plus Pool), a multi-purpose pool and urban revitalization concept that is in the shape of – you guessed it – a plus sign. They are looking for civic support for what is envisioned as a “giant strainer dropped into the river”, which will also serve as a public amenity and ecological prototype. We love the sexy pool images and the clever way water filtration is incorporated into the concept:

The idea would be that the floating pool(s) could be integrated into any of Manhattan’s riverside parks, adding an extra iconic element.  The pool’s configuration also allows different mixed uses: the shallower areas for kids’ and lounging pool, the deeper areas for sports and lap swimming, or for swim meets as well.

The pool walls consist of concentric layers of filtration materials that screen out bacteria, pollutants and odors so that the water within the pool is safe for swimming – reminiscent of an artificial floating trash island which can be constructed to purify a water body by filtering out impurities.  Not surprisingly, + Pool harkens back to the old days back in the 19th century when floating spas and riverside public pools filled with droves of happy swimming people existed in Lower Manhattan. Even today in NYC, there’s The Floating Lady, a recommissioned barge in the Bronx that was transformed in 2007 into a floating barge pool.

DJ Storm’s Interview With Carmel Candy.

Ever since my interview with Gianna DeNinno and the subsequent chat with Jessica Castillo, I’ve been looking around for yet another, intelligent, intellectual, successful, sexy, model who was well rounded (I mean that in EVERY sense of the word) and cool enough to sit down and talk to.  After featuring the lovely Carmel Candy on the blog, we spoke for a bit, and I decided she was the one.  Down to Earth, friendly, and full of personality, Candy has a lot on her plate professionally, (if you want to keep up with her, or talk to her yourself, just hit her up on facebook, or on twitter @modelCarmelCndy), from acting, to singing, to owning her own business, Candy is much more than just a model from the UK.  Check the method below to find out a bit more about the UK’s favorite Carmel flavored treat.

DJ Storm: So as I understand it, your from the UK, what part are you from specifically, and what’s it like starting a career in “urban modeling” out there?
Carmel Candy: I’m from Manchester- known for its famous football team Manchester United.  Urban Modeling in the UK, is almost none exsistant. The media here are crazy- they only want slim girls with big breast. They are not much into curves over here! Dont get me wrong men love the curves here, but the media does not. They see ‘Slim’ as being attractive, but I don’t think so! Women are meant to be womanly!!! Thats why Im going to try my luck in the US, as they seem to love the curves!!!

DJS: I’m personally a fan of people around my age range who are making waves in their industry, and I already know you have a pretty impressive portfolio, but what age did you know you wanted to get into modeling, and what pushed you to start?
CC: I have been performing since I was 11, singing/acting/dancing, but its only recently that I tried to get into Urban Modelling. All my friends kept telling me I should go over to America, coz they would love my ‘ass’ over there! I thought if I can make money out of it, why not??

DJS: So, I’m curious as to where the name “Carmel Candy” came from. Was it a long time nickname someone gave you, or just a stage name?
CC: This is a funny one, My best friend has very dark skin, and I call her silky because her skin is as soft as silk, and she would call me – Caramel, as I have caramel coloured skin, and we had fun with it. My real name is Candice, so after a play around with a few different ideas I came up with Carmel Candy. Im as tasty as caramelised Candy treat! And thats the truth!! hahahaha
I thought It was appropraite to have a model name- as all the urban models I know have them!

DJS: What nationality/ies are you?
CC: I am Mixed Race. White/Jamaican. I take after my mother- but I get my body from my jamaican father, and I aint complaining!!

DJS: Out of all the shoots you’ve done so far, which one has been your favorite?
CC: My favourite photoshoot is one I did the other week. In a swimming pool-(in the UK we dont have swimming pools outside!) and the photo’s are so sexy! The water is everywere and they are very cheeky!!! You will love them!! They are my best so far!!

DJS: Are there any places you’d like to travel to model? Or any “dream jobs” you’d want to do in the future?
CC: I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to be in King Magazine, and Black Men Magazine! That would be my dream!! That would mean everyone would get to see me, and really get my face out there!
My dream destination would be on a beach in Miami- that would be so special!! I get excited thinking about it!!

DJS: When your not modeling, what else do you like to do in your spare time?
CC: I run my own e-commerce business. I started it up a year ago and it seams to be taking off. I also love to perform. I do reguler acting lessons. It is also my dream to become a successful actress.
And like all women, I love to shop till I drop, and I like to go on dates and be wined and dined!

DJS: Business oriented AND sexy, I love it.  So, I happen to know that music and dancing are some of your other passions, what types of dance do you specialize in?
CC: I love to dance. In the past I have studied Ballet, Tap, Jazz and Street dance.. I like best just to free style, as thats when I can best express myself! I love to dance to R&B and hiphop, dancehall etc. The sexier the music the better! I love to shake my ass!! hahah

DJS: What type of music do you sing, and who in the music community would you like to work with down the road?
CC: I prefer to sing R&B, and my insperations are Beyonce/Destinys Child/Kerri Hilson, Alicia Keys and Rhianna etc.
I would like to work with anyone!!! im easy!! if someone thinks im talented enough, then im willing to give anything a try!

DJS: I’m good friends with DJ Roy Rovelli who spins all over London, so I know the music can be a bit different from what folks are used to in the states, but what kind of music do you listen to at home, and what do you like to hear in the clubs when you go out?
CC: I like all kinds of music! I studied Musical Theatre when I was in college too. I like pop/alterative/funkyhouse/dance/R&B/Drum and Base/HipHop/Soul/Reggae/Dancehall. Any thing I can dance too. But when I go out to party and have a good time I like R&B and Hip Hop.

DJS: I see you’ve been featured on tons of websites other than mine for your looks, but you earned a degree in Media and Performance, what are some of the benefits you see in having a degree in Media and Performance, and what are some of your future goals outside of modeling?
CC: Yeah my degree was a great experience for me to gain. It taught me many things- and really re-affirmed in my head that I want to be on screen performing. It also taught me how to grow up and become an adult. I think University really helps me come into the real world, and realize your resonsibilites as an adult! I would tell anybody that they should get their education first!

DJS: Education is always the key when it comes to moving ahead, and accomplishing your goals in life… Its interesting that you say school solidified your decision to want to be on screen, is Hollywood one of the places the world should look for you next?
CC: I hope so, all I know is I have more talent in my big toe then Kim Karadshian!!!! so If she can make it then why cant I???

DJS: That’s a good way to look at it.  So now that we’ve covered all the bases with acting, singing and modeling, Are there any models, singers, or actresses currently in the industry that you admire, or look at as inspirational?
CC: Yeah I really like what Lola Monroe is doing. A, shes gorgeous, but B, she has used her success from being a video vixen, to further her career as a rapper amongst other things so, the sky is the limit!!! I believe my modeling can take me to the next level.

DJS: I believe so too.  Its been amazing talking to you Candy, when’s the next time you think you’ll make it out to the states to do a photoshoot and where would you want to go that you haven’t already been?
CC: I will be in New York in June this year, to meet some agents as I am currently looking for a professional with all the right contacts! I already have some photo shoots lined up. I want to go and party the New York way, and meet some great people and have the time of my life!

And since the interview, Candy and I have discussed a working on a few projects together, both internationally and state-side.  So stay tuned for news on that.

The ‘New’ House Pool.

Italian company Kos presented new concept of in-house pool named Faraway Pool.  Guaranteed to add a unique, inviting touch to any home, the Faraway Pool can be built in to the floor.  The pool is always in level with the floor and the water doesn’t overflow, thanks to the ground-level fissure that doubles the pool’s outline.  To top that, the Faraway Pool features underwater illumination, which will make for a truly romantic experience.  Added to its beauty is the blower placed under the steps that allows the water surface to ripple beautifully over the entire pool.  An object of great emotional impact, for infinitely pleasurable moments. Pricing is available on request from the company.

Crazy Above Ground Pool

Designed by Andres Remy Architects, this modern above-ground outdoor pool in Devoto, Argentina is quite appetising for a summer pool party.  The pool does a phenomenal job combining the best of both the natural and urban landscape.  When planning the placement of the swimming pool, the architects studied the path of the sun carefully. The pool is elevated from the ground creating a glass wall that allows views from within and outside.  Even people inside the house can see the action in the pool while lounging on the sofa.
