Growing up in Jersey, Hot 97 was always the station playing in the car, or on the radio at home. Anyone who’s familiar with New York’s biggest radio station knows that you can’t listen for too long without hearing the voice of Angie Martinez. She’s blessed the radio with her talent for years, but in 2001, she took to making music of her own, and put out the single Dem Thangs, featuring Q-Tip. No matter where in New York you go, if the people you’re with are of the right age, they’ll know this track as soon as it starts.
Coinciding with a rise in action from guerrilla street artist Banksy, a new video could provide some clues relating to the artist’s next efforts. With his “Better Out Than In” project in full stride around New York, these latest visuals – while being very ambiguous – comprise the singular video found on Banksy’s YouTube account. Including the likeness of a familiar Disney character, could this be a nod toward Dumbo, a neighborhood in Brooklyn?

American artist Jeff Koons has teamed up with champagne label Dom Pérignon for a limited-edition rosé package that is set to retail for $20,000. The champagne is a 2003 vintage which, according to cellar master Richard Geoffroy is “as bold, as provocative…as full bodied, intense, sensuous as can be.” The bottle coincide’s with Koons’ show at the Gagosian’s West 24th Street location in New York and will come accompanied by a miniature version of the fuchsia Venus of Willendorf sculpture. Speaking about the collab, Koons said: “I don’t do very many product associations…But you know Dom Pérignon is a fantastic brand, a wonderful Champagne. Champagne is used on many occasions for celebrating.”
New York-based design consultancy Pensa are teaming up with solar company Goal Zero and AT&T to introduce 25 phone charging locations across New York City. Named Street Charge, the stations are entirely self sufficient with three solar panels and can be dropped anywhere in the city, such as a patch of asphalt or a patch of grass in a park, helping to fill the city’s electricity dead zones. “We wanted something that looked like it fit naturally in those natural environments,” said founder Marco Perry when speaking to Co.Design. “It’s a little bit organic, but it’s a little bit industrial. It kind of looks like a flower, but so little that it’s not kitschy. It’s more of an abstraction.” The units will run for 90 days on the exclusive contract with AT&T, but will hopefully become available on a more permanent basis soon.
SHoP architects’ proposal transforms this historical New York hub into a bright, airy space in response to MAS’s 2013 design challenge for a new penn station and the next madison square garden. The design relocates the arena to Hudson Yards, engaging the waterfront, and extending the midtown locus across Manhattan. Further integrating it into the city context, an extension of the high line connects to the gotham gateway armature. Parks and amenities linking the former neighbors, provide a civic face to the project and generate revenues to relieve the financial burden. the displacement of madison square garden allows major conceptual renovations to re-contextualize transportation in the heart of New York. The design encloses the rail station with a dematerialized train shed, allowing ample light and air into the space. Circulation would be re-organized for ease of access and intuitive navigation throughout the largest transportation center in the united states.

MS MR’s song Fantasy is a pretty catchy, stand out track. The upbeat, Florence like song is far too easy to get addicted to. The New York indie pop duo have a growing buzz surrounding them, and it’s no surprise. Fantasy video is perfect for those of you who like your videos with a dose of oddity like the gothy, grimy style and glitter vomiting cheerleaders.
Instagram, the photo-sharing app, has released a list of the most photographed places in the world via the app in 2012, with Suvarnabhumi Airport topping the chart.According to IG, over 100,000 photos were taken via Instagram at Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok, Thailand, over the last year, making it a surprise winner.Interestingly another Bangkok landmark, the Siam Paragon shopping mall, took second place in Instagram’s most photographed places in 2012
Overall, locations in the US were popular among Instagram users, with American landmarks occupying seven of the top ten locations, including five in Southern California. The top ten most photographed places in the world via Instagram in 2012 were:
01. Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) Bangkok, Thailand
02. Siam Paragon (shopping mall) Bangkok, Thailand
03. Disneyland Park Anaheim, California, USA
04. Times Square New York City, New York, USA
05. AT&T Park San Francisco, California, USA
06. Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), California, USA
07. Dodger Stadium, Los Angeles, California, USA
08. Eiffel Tower, Paris, France

White Animal Life (WAL) tableware, a collection created by Amsterdam-based interior designer Emilie Kröner, attracted attention, for example, at this year’s New York and Milan Design Weeks. The collection includes a rhino and hippo oil-and-vinegar set, elephants as salt and pepper shakers, a flamingo carafe, leopard napkin holders, and a crocodile serving dish perfect for candy, olives or asparagus. In all, White Animal Life is a decidedly ill-functioning set of curiosities for the table. Or, if that is too harsh a description, at least Kröner puts form and beauty bravely ahead of function.
