Aston Martin Brings Forth The DB11 And DBX.

Aston Martin is making a few modest changes to its lineup for 2022, which includes the arrival of a brand new online configurator where you can see those updates in action. Revisions to the range include more power for the DB11 V8, new wheel options for the DBS and DBX, and in an effort to streamline its range, Aston Martin is dropping the ‘Superleggera’ and ‘AMR’ nameplates. The DB11 coupe and convertible models equipped with the base V8 welcome the biggest changes. The twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter engine now produces 528 horsepower (394 kilowatts), which yields a new-and-improved top speed of 192 miles per hour (308 kilometers per hour). That’s an increase of 25 ponies over last year’s model. And now buyers can option the DB11 V8 with Sports Plus Seats to help cope with all that extra speed.

The DB11 V12 Coupe sticks around with the same 630 hp (470 kW), but it loses its AMR nameplate. The DBS suffers the same fate, dropping the Superleggera badge from its hood but maintaining its twin-turbocharged 5.2-liter V12, still good for 715 hp (533 kW) and a top speed of 211 mph (340 kmh). Ditching the AMR and Superleggera badges, Aston Martin says, helps simplify the lineup. Visual updates include new 21-inch wheel designs for the DBS, and a fresh set of 23-inch wheel options for the DBX SUV. With the new configurator, buyers can also select from three preset interior “environments,” each one with colors, materials, and patterns carefully curated by the Aston Martin Design team.

The undeniably exotic 2022 Aston Martin DB11 toes the line between sports car and grand tourer. Its long, low, and wide body turns heads whether configured with the fixed roof or the retractable soft top. Aston offers this rear-drive-only looker with a mighty 630-hp twin-turbo V-12, but it comes only in the coupe variant, adds a significant surcharge, and can overwhelm the rear tires. The standard 528-hp twin-turbo V-8 isn’t as special, but it’s still supremely satisfying. Paired with an eight-speed automatic, both engines provide stirring soundtracks and rousing acceleration that can take this car from relaxed to rowdy in a thrice. And despite some interior miscues and miniscule rear seats, the DB11 has a comfortable and highly customizable cabin.

The world was ready for an Aston Martin SUV. Yes, by the time the Aston Martin DBX debuted Bentley had given birth to the Bentayga, Lamborghini had sired the Urus and even Rolls Royce had realised its Cullinan.  Still, the arrival of another ‘super SUV’ is always a bit exciting. Would it be a true Aston Martin, how would it compare to its rivals and is it even a good SUV?  Well, that’s what I wanted to know about Aston Martin’s DBX anyway, and I found out, along with everything else you should know: from its performance to practicality in this review.

I’m not one to name drop but I was having a chin wag with Marek, that’s Marek Reichman, Aston Martin’s Vice President and Chief Creative Officer, the fellow who has designed every Aston from the past 15 years, that Marek. Anyway, before the DBX came out he told me any SUV he designed would be unmistakably an Aston Martin. We think he nailed it. The gaping Aston Martin grille is unmistakably the same as the DB11’s and the tailgate, which although is the back hatch to a large SUV, is absolutely the same as the rear end of the Vantage. Everything in between has all the family hallmarks. There are those oval headlights and the huge beak of a bonnet, the chiselled side panels with wheel arches that push up towards the sky and those rear haunches.

The DBX is a circa 550 horsepower giant that can reach out and almost touch 300km/h. But testing it on Sydney’s roads is like having a champion racehorse in your backyard and your neighbour asking you what it’s like to ride.  A racetrack wasn’t handy at the time and I’d signed a form saying I’d not put any more than 400km on the clock during its stay with me, which meant having to choose my test loop carefully.  Fortunately, this was before Sydney was plunged into the current COVID lockdown, which makes that 400km now seem vast.

Spectre’s UI/OS Designs.

While my interests in the latest James Bond outing ‘Spectre’ were primarily audio based, one can’t ignore the beauty and technically precision of the visuals.  One of the least glorified, easily overlooked, but immensely stunning aspects of the film are the digital user interfaces, and operating systems used by characters in the movie.  From the technical breakdown of the DB10, all the way down to the maps, and computer screen designs, each screen was painstakingly created from scratch by incredible visual artists.  Although these images may have quickly been glanced by movie goers during the film, are all below for you to behold.  Check the method.

Here Comes The Full ‘Spectre’ Trailer.

daniel-craig_3138898b-1

Since early last year (2014) I’ve been “helping out” with some sound design aspects of Spectre, and since the original teaser trailer 2 months ago, I’ve loved seeing more compiled secenes of the film in action.  Earlier today the full trailer was released, and it is amazing.  There is a seeming return to Bond and Q discussing gadgets, (as well as an odd reference to Bond ‘disappearing’, which may be attributed to the coming departure of Sam Mendez from the franchise).  However, this new trailer finally gives us some action, car chases, Christoph Waltz’s villain, Dave Butista, Daniel Craigh seemingly blowing up a building in Mexico, and Bond undressing Monica Bellucci.  (Something I’ve wanted to do for some time now.)  Check the method below, and go see ‘Spectre’ in November.

During my brief time working with Sony, I’ve had to marvelous opportunity to see some of the best work put out under their umbrella.  My closer friends know my particular connection with this movie, but now that it’s been officially released, I’m proud to present the first teaser trailer for Spectre… the 24th adventure in the James Bond series.

The Flying Buggy.

SkyRunner is a dune buggy and a power parachute in one. After almost three years in development, it is on track to hit the market later this year.  This odd seeming mode of transportation is something that will attract thrill seakers from all over the globe.  Check the video details below.

My favorite part of the video is when they state it’s LIKE something out of a James Bond film… Thats exactly where SkyRunner’s creators got the idea from.

Aston Martin introduces its Q personalization program at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show to provide tailor-fit cars for the most discerning customers. Q by Aston Martin is giving buyers the opportunity to customize their car inside and out with different paints, trims, leather and veneers. The nomenclature of the program has been inspired by its longtime silver screen partner James Bond whose ‘Q’ is a quartermaster which customizes his vehicles with different features and gadgets.

Did You Ever Want To Breathe Underwater?

triton4

A new invention looks set to change Scuba and diving in general. It’s shocking task lies in the idea of microscopic, nano scale ‘artificial Gills’, can effectively separate the Oxygen from the water while diving, on demand. A series of tiny threads or strands have microscopic holes along their width, which are smaller than water molecules.

triton2triton7

It’s called the ‘Triton Oxygen Respirator‘, a miniature but incredible device that will do away for the need to move bulky tanks on dives, and allow the dives to last much, much longer than can be had with current equipment.  The weight accumulations will help emergency responders to move around more calmly too without having to move bulky and heavy tanks around with them. We inhale about 6 liters per minute (when resting) and maybe 10 times that when working tough, so a pack containing 2 or 3 liters of water will stockpile a generous supply of O2, enough to last long enough to pursuit and salvage people from smoke filled buildings.

triton3 triton5

The Scuba industry is thinking ahead onto commercial, private and military ships as a secure device expressed to all passengers and crew, aircraft too if they have to dive into the sea. It could also be used on land, by firefighters, with minor adjustments. All they’d need would be a small canister of water or something identical to a hydration backpack to excerpt O2 from..there’s lots of O2 in a particular liter of water..about 630 liters worth.

All The James Bonds Combined

By combining all six James Bond actors into one single face, which could be considered the perfect aesthetic for the role. Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan, and Daniel Craig have each portrayed 007, starting with Connery in Dr. No (1962) all the way to the present day with Craig in Skyfall (2012). To create the final face, they combined the three early Bonds (Connery, Moore, Lazenby) and then combined the three more recent bonds (Dalton, Brosnan, and Craig). The two resulting images were then combined to achieve the finished look.

HM5 “On The Road Again” Watch

Amida-Digitrend

MB&F has unveiled a brand new timepieces with a 1970s twist – the HM5 ‘On the Road’ – which takes inspiration from the details and bodywork of cars from the era. The brand said: “Horological Machine No.5 is the epitome of the ‘70s – a time when everything seemed possible: space exploration, supersonic flight, hovercrafts, jet packs and the first supercars like the Lamborghini Miura.” The HM5 is built like the first supercars of those amazing years – complete with chassis, aerodynamic bodywork, rear flaps, exhaust ports and dashboard. Like the instrument panel on an early 70s speedster, the HM5′s display shows the hours and minutes in an mph/rpm fashion. The unmistakable wedge-shaped case of On the Road Again is direct homage to the plucky Amida Digitrend, you know that digital LED-look display. It also takes unmistakable cues from the sleek low-slung supercars of the epoch, with louvres on their near horizontal rear windows blocking sunlight and heat.

lamborghini-miura

The functional louvres on HM5 do the opposite in that they open to allow light down onto the Super-LumiNova numbers on the hours and minutes indication disks to charge them. The disks are actually flat on top of the movement (under the louvres), not vertically at the front of the case where they appear to be thanks to some optical magic. Opening and closing the louvres also changes the dial’s light intensity. The louvres are opened and closed by a slide set into the side of the case. Another distinguishing feature of supercars are large dual exhaust pipes that are usually seen accompanied by a roar of engine noise and smoking rubber. But HM5’s exhausts are not there to expel combustion gases in a throaty roar, but to drain water in case – like James Bond’s Lotus in ‘The Spy Who Loved Me’ – HM5 gets wet. From a technical point of view, HM5 innovates by combining an automatic movement with an optical-grade sapphire prism, which reflects light 90 degrees and magnifies it by 20% – allowing to display bi-directional jumping hours and minutes vertically. The HM5 is released as a limited edition of 66 pieces in zirconium.

Bollinger Champagne Pays Tribute To James Bond.

James Bond‘s soft spot for the martini is no secret, but a 50-year anniversary requires champagne. Enter a French brand that has decided to fete the spy’s longevity on the silver screen in style, with a box set titled “Bollinger 002 for 007″.  Inside the case, a silencer-styled box inspired by the accessory on Bond’s Walter PKK pistol houses a bottle of champagne. Omega Seamaster James Bond 50th Anniversary Watch.

To celebrate fifty years of James Bond films, Omega is releasing a special update of  their Seamaster Diver 300m James Bond watch.  The watch offers Omega’s caliber 2507 co-axial movement, with the winding rotor designed to look like a bullet. It’s also inscribed with ’50 years of James Bond.’  The James Bond 50th Anniversary watch has been created in two sizes, 41 mm and  36 mm. The 36mm case size has a diamond index at the 7 o’clock position.  The 41 mm version is being produced in a limited edition of 11’007 pieces and the 36 mm version in a limited edition of 3’007 pieces.  No mention of price as yet, but as both a classic watch and a limited edition, this is unlikely be one of the cheaper watches on the market.  Interestingly, 2012 marks the 50th anniversary of the James Bond film series — though fifty years ago Bond was not wearing an Omega at all.  The classic timepiece has been worn by 007 in every adventure since GoldenEye, when it replaced the Rolex Submariner.
